Glasses in Mayberry

2008-03-28 Thread Ken Anderson
The real question is How many people who wore glasses in Mayberry actually
had lenses in their frames?

Sorry - I picked up in the middle of a thread Never saw the
rulesBut, didn't two governors pass through and not get invited to dinner
at the
Taylor House?

1)The one that came to shake Barney's hand for giving him a parking
ticket
2)The one that helped celebrate Founder's Day

Of course, I missed on the rules But I don't think either was invited to
dinner at the Taylor's... The one in Founder's Day might have gone to a
luncheon but do we know where?

old TV shows on DVD

2008-03-28 Thread Paul Mulik
You can't go wrong with Amazon.com. Great prices, and much of the time you
even get free shipping. Whenever you order anything, they will recommend other
shows too, based on what other people have been buying For example, if you buy
TAGS they might say 70% of the people who bought TAGS also bought The Joe
Shlabotnik Show or something like that.

There are a lot of web sites out there selling bootleg DVDs; most of these are
produced in Southest Asia. If you shop on eBay, beware of these fakes.

Paul Mulik

P.S. For them that don't know, Joe Shlabotnik was Charlie Brown's favorite
baseball player. In one memorable strip from 1964, Charlie Brown bought 500
packs of baseball cards hoping to get his hero, but of course he didn't get Joe
Shlabotnik. Lucy bought one pack (for one cent), and guess who she got? It is
rumored that a blow-up of this comic strip still hangs on he wall in the Topps
office to this day.

I would also like to start ordering some DVDs from other great TV shows of
the past (Lucy, TV westerns, etc). Does anyone have any suggestions for
quality web sites to order from?

Opie Crying and other splashes

2008-03-28 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

A few days ago we were talking about the few times that Opie cried.

In the early color episode where he battled the other boy for the job
delivering groceries at Mr. Doaks's store...he nearly cried when Andy
thought he had gotten fired for wanting to play baseball. He puckered
up, but I don't think I saw a tear.

For the person that wanted the pilot episode, look for Season 5 of Make
Room for Daddy on the internet. I found the whole season for 5 or 6
bucks. It was worth that to me to get that pilot.

That fella from Indiana that mentioned those TV stations that show
mainly BW...what Market/cable carrier are you in?

I feel for those who just have TVL. I have said before that this is not
the place of TVL bashing, and I stand by that, but I'm sympathetic to
the venting. In the Indy market WXIN, a local station, carries our
favorite show at noon, and then I think at night some times. Even
though I have all the DVD's there's just something therpetic about
turning it on when its broadcasting and know that some of you, and other
fans are watching it at the same time.

Paul made some good points about the value of it being on the air as
well.

good web site to order vintage DVD's

2008-03-28 Thread SHARON SMITH

Lee in NC and all others tired of tvland...I share your opinion exactly. I
have been purchasing the dvd collections of all the old shows that I like so
that I'm not dependent on a tv station. I have no idea who took over tvland or
why they have destroyed it, but they sure have done a number on it. I've
written loads of times, but we are not the demographic that they care about. I
hope they go under. Mostly trash is aired - I've never seen a show so heavily
advertised as that gargabe High School Reunion - they sound desparate to make
it a hit. What lame trash. Also, I know someone has already said he's heard
enough about that tomato, but when you tamper with true classic tv fans, it's a
very sore subject.

Try www.tvdvdworld.comLooks like they have everything and at pretty good
