Re: Andy sheriff for 12 years
No, Andy wasn't sheriff for 12 years in the first season. Andy mentions he was sheriff for 12 years in the episode "Barney Runs for Sheriff" (season 5 aired Feb. 8, 1965). So he was sheriff at most 7 years during the first season, possibly beginning in 1953. That would make sense since Barney was issued his pistol in August 1953. I should know. I was smiling and nodding during his swearing in ceremony.. Mr. Schwamp >3. We know he has been sheriff at this time for 12 years . 1960 - 12 = 1948. >Assuming he just didnt walk off the boat and >become sheriff if we give him a year to campaign >that gets us to 1947 when he returned. Assuming he may have been drafted he >entered the service in 1945 or late 1944. Barney in civvies
During the cave rescue, Barn had on civvies. I THINK he had on a suit other than the ol salt and pepper in Raleigh when he was working. And of course, when he spent the night at the jail with Otis, he was wearing his pjs and a robe. _ Windows Live™ Hotmail®: Find, add, and share the best celeb pics, right from Hotmail. Thin Wardrobe
In "Up in Barney's Room" when Andy comes to visit while Barney fixes chili and crackers, we get a look inside Barney's closet. Inside was the ol' salt and pepper suit and a single necktie. Then after he gets kicked out by Mrs. Mendlebright, he sets up shop in the back room of the courthouse and points out his "closet" (a hatrack) to Thelma Lou. Now, Barney was wearing the salt and pepper and the only thing on his "closet" was his uniform. I guess a thin wardrobe for a thin person. dan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Barney Out Of Uniform
Vic, One of my favorite scenes involves Barney wearing his casual clothes (including straw hat) when he drops in on Andy and Opie having dinner. He asks if they want to go with him to get a bottle of pop and notices that they are dressed in suits. He asks if they are going to prayer meeting. This is the episode where Malcolm Merriweather has coerced them into dressing for dinner. When Malcolm comes out of the kitchen and asks if Barney is staying for dinner, Barney replies, "No, I just got done working. I'm on my way home..to get dressed up. I haven't even decided what I'm going to wear tonight yet." Don Knotts is the perfect picture of one who has suddenly become self-conscious of his appearance. He plays it so beautifully. But, then that's the actor of the man. Cheryl Marietta, GA "This soup's cold. Not only that, it's straight out of the can. RE: Barney Out of Uniform
>>Can anyone tell me how many times Barney was seen in clothes other than his uniform and his 'old salt and pepper'. >>I think once was when he came to the second class reunion. Is there anymore ? >>Vic ** One time I can think of is when Malcolm Merriweather is taking care of Andy and Opie and fixes the elegant dinner. They are eating in the dining room and Barney comes in with pants, shirt and sweater. Andy asks him to stay and he says he can't stay because he is not dressed for dinner. Barney's Clothes
Barney was in plain clothes in "The Cave Rescue." Also, he was in a black suit when he rode the horse east to west. In Mayberry Goes Hollywood, he is in a "Smokey the Bear" costume. He dressed as Mrs. McGruder's cousin and tried to rob the bank, and he dressed as a little old lady in "The Bookie Barber.." Also, he dressed as Santa Claus in the Christmas Episode... He dressed in a different outfit once in the episode whre he visits from Raleigh too. I think there are a few times where he wears his sporty shirt and hat..When he vistited Andy during the dinner that Malcolm served, he was in a different outfit too. I think there are numbers of times he wore something other than his uniform or salt and pepper. These just come to mind right away.. 'Thank' Those are tough roles to cast, perhaps because several of them were specifically tailored to the actors (Don Knotts, Jim Nabors, Howard McNear and of course Andy himself). Most obvious choice: Eugene Levy as Floyd, but that's only because I've seen him do it before and he nailed it. George Clooney as Andy, Jim Carrey as Barney, Kathy Bates as Aunt Bee...? Re: an interesting quote
Reading a New York Times article about presidential memoirs brought me to this quote from one of our presidents: “In the discharge of the duties of the office there is one rule of action more important than all others. It consists of never doing anything that some one else can do for you.” So why am I posting it here? Because it came from none other than Calvin Coolidge. So if anyone asks you "What did Calvin Coolidge say?" here's something you can add to your short list. Dixon **Looking for love this summer? Find it now on AOL Personals.
