TAGS Camera Technique on 'Three's Company'
I was watching 'Three's Company' on TVLand EARLY this morning. Ruta Lee (a two episode TAGS vet) played the real estate agent who closed the deal when Mr. Roper sold his apartment building. (This paved the way for Don Knotts become the new landlord at the start of the following season.) The next 'Three's Company' episode served as the pilot for 'The Ropers.' In exterior scenes outside their new townhome with Mr. and Mrs. Roper seated inside their old, beat up car, the camera work is exactly identical to how Andy and Barney were filmed in their "squad car" scenes. The dialogue was read over twice to include both camera angles/perspectives of Mr. and Mrs. Roper. Musicians on "Mayberry on Record"
I have a question for the group. I was just watching the episode "Mayberry on Record" (I think that's the name) where a man comes into town to record folk music and the townsfolk invest in his record. Floyd is HILARIOUS in this episode by the way. I can't tell you how many times I've said "OH SURE!!" from that episode (when Andy says, we believe him, don't we, boys?) Anyway, my question is, does anyone know who the musicians are that play with Andy when they record the bluegrass music? I'm almost certain they were actually playing their instruments (as opposed to Jim Lindsey...) and they looked like a bluegrass band of the time. Anyone know who they were? This was before the Darlings came along - probably the first bluegrass on the Andy Griffith Show. Thanks! Re: WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 11, Issue 52
Has anyone else noticed, that the only time there is a window in Otis cell, is n the episode where Cousin Virgil visits and sands down the keys? Ben Weaver looks through a window in the cell in the Christmas episode. Of course I don't remember if it was No. 1 or No. 2 (That's NOT No. 1 - it's No. 2!!! One! Two!) Songs in Mayberry
Did anyone mention Aunt Bee's favorite song, "Chinatown, My Chinatown," written in 1910 by Jerome & Schwartz? Chinatown, my Chinatown, Where the lights are low; Hearts that know no other land, Drifting to and fro. Dreamy, dreamy Chinatown, Almond eyes of brown, Hearts are light and lights are bright In dreamy Chinatown. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Cash Cab
I was watching an episode of Cash Cab yesterday on the Discovery Channel when three people got in the cab - a man, a woman and a young girl. The young girl sat on the right side of the back seat as the camera viewed her. After the camera angle changed and returned to include her in the scene, she was on the left side of the back seat. The camera angle again changed and when it returned to include her in the scene, she was back again on the right side. I am normally not that observant but after reading the Digest for many years, it reminded me of all the times people have noticed things here on the Digest that are different in scenes from Mayberry, including the window in Otis' s cell (good observation). But, I am willing to bet that people will not be talking about, enjoying and learning from Cash Cab episodes 50 years from now like they still are from TAGS. It's a tribute to the quality and value of TAGS. - The Gollywobbler ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
The songs from Mayberry keep coming!
“Away In A Manger” - sung by Ellie Walker (was that really Eleanor Donohue singing?) “Flow Gently Sweet Afton” - sung by Juanita Pike “Some Enchanted Evening” - sung & played by Clara Edwards to Harlan Robinson, the man selling his organ “Play Gypsies Dance Gypsies” - sung in bits & pieces by the roving gypsy band I can’t for the life of me remember these two: In the epilogue to “Quiet Sam”, what was the song the crowd of well-wishing townsfolk sang outside Sam’s house? In “The Barbershop Quartet”, what was the song which won Mayberry’s quartet their trophy? HistoryBuff ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

How about Opie singing Ol' Dan Tucker? This is also played on my LHOP tapes as Pa used to sing it to Laura and Mary. Also, I believe there was a window in Otis' cell when Ange and Barn forgot their keys that time, but perhaps not. *** WBMUTBB HQ: Feb 2010 Online Chapter Meeting ***
Hey Folks, I know it's short notice but we'll have our second online chapter meeting at 1:30 PM ET on Saturday 20 Feb 2010. If you can be there, we'd love to have you and be able to visit with one another for an hour or so (or however long you can spare to be with us). Sorry for the late notice but I realized the month was running out and this was the only chance I was going to have. *MAYBE* I can even record part of this one to use on the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast? We'll see if that works out or not. Whatever happens, we'll have fun visiting.
