Re: Aunt Bee's Romance

2010-03-22 Thread Terrell McEntyre

I found 3 other episodes with less than 8 people.
Season 3, Episode #71: Floyd, the Gay Deceiver had 7 people. Andy, Opie,
Aunt Bee, Floyd, Madeline Grayson, and a man and woman on the street at the
beginning.
Season 1, Episode #23: Andy and Opie, Housekeepers had 6 1/2 people (not
because Horatio was there). Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, Bertha Edwards, Jimmy, a
man on the street near the end, and an unidentified driver (that counts as a
1/2, right?) near the end.
Season 2, Episode #56: The County Nurse had 6 people. Andy, Barney, Mary
Simpson, Rafe Hollister, and a man and woman on the street at the beginning.

While I was watching the 5th season episode of "Aunt Bee's Romance" this
morning, I noticed something unusual. During the whole show, only 8
actors total appear. Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, Floyd, and Roger Hanover. All
of the scenes except one take place at the Taylor home. In the one scene
that takes place downtown, two men and one woman walk by, making a grand
total of only 8 people in the whole show. I would be willing to bet that
is the least number of actors in any show. Most of the shows have more
than 8 people just walking around the streets.

No more Andy Griffith show on TV Land ??  or any other channel in Lexington.
:-(
I protest!  Don't think that there's ever been a time in my lifetime that Andy
wasn't playing somewhere.   Yup I have DVD's and VHS.it's just the
principal of the thing.  It's UNamerican.  As Barney would say, we need to nip
this in the bud..!!  It's a sad day in Mayberry when you can't find TAGS on
TV.

Didn't the episode where Otis got a car only have Andy, Barney, and Otis in
it?

The episode with the fewest characters is Hot Rod Otis. It has only 3, Andy,
Barney and Otis.

Size of Shows

2010-03-22 Thread DAVID QUINN

Since we seem to have settled which Andy show had the least number of actors,
how about guessing which show had the most actors? I will start off, and
without cheating and going to look at all of the shows, I would probably guess
that it might be "The Jinx". There were all the men in the barber shop at the
start, and all of the people out at the lake in the middle, and then there was
quite a crowd at the drawing for the television at the end. I think that would
be my guess.

My Pilgrimage

2010-03-22 Thread John Worsham
Last week I took a short vacation with my wife and daughter, spending two days
in Asheville, North Carolina.  The original plan was to spend Thursday touring
the Biltmore mansion, but my wife had already been there twice and did'nt care
to go again.  I coerced them into making the pilgrimage to Mount Airy, about
2.5 hours northeast.  My college-age daughter was not terribly excited, but
suffered along anyway.

Let me tell you, if you have never been to Mount Airy, you owe it to yourself
to make the trip.  Downtown Mount Airy is just the way I envisioned Mayberry.
We ate lunch at the Snappy Lunch (had to have the porkchop sandwich!) and then
visited Floyd's City Barber Shop next door.  We shopped at a couple of the
Mayberry theme shops on Main Street, and met the folks at Mayberry on Main who
post here occasionally.  We traveled down Main Street to see Wally's Service
Station, and snapped a photo of a replica black-and-white squad car.  We then
stopped by to take a photo outside Andy's boyhood home.  We ended our
pilgrimage by a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum, where we met Emmett Forrest,
Andy's boyhood friend.  Emmett is a true gentleman, taking time to share his
memories of Andy with all who visit.  He even took a photo of us standing
beside the Andy and Opie statue, which I'm glad to say has be restored to it's
original state after its recent
 vandalizing.

If you cannot go for Mayberry Days, you owe it to yourself to make at least a
one-day visit to our hometown.  It was a day I will never forget!

Replying to the post that TAGS was not longer on TVland.  For some reason TAGS
isn't on again until 3/27.   I checked the schedule and TVland is not removing
it from their schedule.  In fact, it will be on for 2 solid hours on the 27th
and  4 solid hours on the 28th.  I was sweating there for a minute.  It appears
to be a keeper!  ALL HAIL TO THEE TVLAND

Season 1..Episode 1...there are only 7 speaking parts..Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee,
Barney, Rose, and the guy she married, I forgot his name, and Emma Watson. They
are the only ones seen in the show except at the very beginning we see a man
and woman pass the courthouse in opposite directions , only their heads are
seen..Except for the wedding, Andy washing the squad car, Aunt Bee playing
baseball and fishing, the rest of the show is shot in the Taylor house  and
Opie's bedroom..The final scene of Aunt bee Leaving is shot first from Opie's
bedroom and then at the truck.

While watching the old Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movie "The Story of Vernon
and Irene Castle" recently, I noticed Dick Elliott (our little fat mayor) in a
brief role as a train conductor. What I found interesting was his line to Fred
Astaire in reference to Ginger Rogers. He said, "Better kiss her. It's a long
time till next Sunday." This was so similar to his also-brief scene in "It's a
Wonderful Life" when he asked Jimmy Stewart something like, "Why don't you kiss
her?" about Donna Reed.

Also, I spotted a younger Delos Jewkes (Glenn Cripe of the Mayberry choir) as
part of a cowboy choir in a short film from 1939 called "The Royal Rodeo."
