Mayberry Tribute in Rochester MN

2012-07-09 Thread Sheryl McBride

Rev. Schilbe, I wish I could join you and any other Andy Griffith Show fans for
your Mayberry Tribute. I can't think of anything more wonderful than sitting in
church and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. That would be the
closest thing to Heaven down here. Wishing all who attend the Tribute an
evening of warm Mayberry fellowship !

Harriett, I too have always heard that the photo on the living room wall was
Aunt Bee. Here is a slightly enlarged frame capture. See what you think.

1996 Andy Griffith article in Guideposts

2012-07-09 Thread ctygrl821
Hello all,

Haven't written into the digest such a long time, but I always enjoy everyone's
posts.
I thought this1996 article that our beloved Andy Griffith submitted to this
magazine would just be another reason we all loved him so...and continue to
love him and his influence and strength on everyone that knew him. I think each
of you will take quite a bit from his article about his faith and his family.

God bless Andy and his amazing way of inspiring us to keep our faith and our
families close in our hearts always...

Mayberry Days

2012-07-09 Thread CTMIDWAY58
Anyone wishing to go to Mayberry Days this year may find it hard to find
accommodations close by at this late date, but it is worth a try. If you
can't get a room in Mt. Airy, you can always get one in Winston Salem or
Hillsville VA, both about a half hour away. As far as crowds, none will match
the year of the statue dedication but it was still a great time! Just be
patient driving around or walking around and it will go fine. If you find
yourself stuck in pedestrian traffic, just start up a conversation with the
ones around you!! Everyone there is a friend you ain't met yet!! So meet
some, you will enjoy it, and don't give up!
Hope to see a lot of folks there, and I am sure every show in town will be
paying tribute to Andy in some form or other!!

Paying respects -- a busy weekend in Mount Airy

2012-07-09 Thread Michael Eury
My wife and I decided to remember Andy by visiting Mount Airy this weekend.
We weren't alone.

The Andy Griffith Museum's parking lot was full, with many out-of-state
license plates, and the wonderful museum staff seemed a bit harried by the
never-ending crowd. From what I could see, though, visitors remembered the
"What's Your Hurry?" sermon and were patient. The Andy and Opie statue in
front of the museum was filled with flowers from those paying respects.

Main Street Mount Airy and its shops were crowded with people on Saturday.
I suspect that only during "Mayberry Days" had the town seen foot traffic
like this.

Instead of sadness permeating Mount Airy over Andy's death, I was pleased
to see everyone sporting bubbling smiles of nostalgia. Since Andy brought
us a lifetime of laughter, that's probably the way he would have wanted to
be remembered.

On this visit, we also went to Pilot Mountain, and while it wasn't the "big
city" like Mount Pilot (I was hoping to grab a quick judo lesson from Mr.
Izamoto), the mountain is one big rock (not to be confused with Warden
Bee's "The Rock")! After hiking, I'm plumb wore out. Beeeat!

Rest in peace, Andy Griffith. You may have left us in body, but your spirit
lives on!

Andy Taylor's memorial service

2012-07-09 Thread Elizabeth Busby
As a remembrance, I have been wearing my Mayberry t-shirt. I received
condolences from friends immediately but my shirt has made me realize
that people I don't know have been touched by Andy's passing as they
have spoken to me. I also got to thinking about what would Andy
Taylor's memorial service be like. It would have to be held in the High
School auditorium just to hold all the people, those still in Mayberry
and the ones returning to pay their respects. There would be quit a few
musicians that would return and sing or play a song, Rafe Hollister,
the Darlings, Freddie Fleet, Jim Lindsay, the church and community
choirs. Rev. Tucker's grandson could perform the service with numerous
others telling stories of how Sheriff Taylor helped them in their time
of need, funny stories, and other stories of how he touched their
lives. Opie and his children remembering their Pa and Grandpa. It would
be a glorious tribute to a man who lived what he believed. Elizabeth

Rest in Peace, Ange

2012-07-09 Thread Debbie Whisenant
I was away on vacation when I heard the sad news of last week. But I was
comforted that so many of my friends immediately reached out to me in
sympathy—all with the same message: “When I heard about Andy Griffith’s
passing, you were the first person I thought of; I know how much you loved
him.” I was so touched that people would associate me with him and the
show. And I also want to say how touched I have been by the beautiful
comments and tributes made by my “Digest Family.” It was comforting to get
back to email and read through all the daily digests of last week. I’m glad
to know so many of you cried, too. It’s obvious we all feel the same
way—you have captured our feelings so well with your posts.

One more thing: Danny asked if any of us have children named Andy. I’m
proud to say that I have an Andy who was raised on TAGS and loves it as
much as I do.

Heaven's New Sheriff

2012-07-09 Thread Ben Sandifer
Heaven's new sheriff arrived today, and we must say "goodbye"

He'll go right through the pearly gates with no gun, hat or tie

Mayberry friends he'll see again, some there for a while

Others are new, like the Darling boy on banjo and Goober Pyle

His first stop is the barbershop, where Floyd needs just one chair

He's glad to see the sheriff again - he's always had great hair

Then he'll be welcomed by the band that now plays on-the-beat

They don't even need the substitutes from the band of Bobby Fleet

His deputy's held down the fort, and now he has his chief

Though there are no moonshine stills, not even a chicken thief

Up here there is no need for guns or power to exert

But just in case, his bullet's still in the pocket of his shirt

And Otis might stop by to show the sheriff he is sober

In his new eternal home his drinking problem's over

Down the street he'll go, and maybe Briscoe he will meet

And in this place his radiator doesn't even overheat

Then on to his front porch he'll go, to pick and sing a song

Aunt Bee's cooking up a feast, and supper won't be long

She's always made enough to feed the entire neighborhood

And heaven even makes her homemade pickles taste quite good

Then he'll relax in his favorite chair, or walk around in his socks

Unless Ernest T. should come around with a sack of heavenly rocks

When our days on earth are done, and we all head that way
Heaven will be a better place, 'cause the sheriff arrived today

andy

2012-07-09 Thread Danny Poarch
I have read with interest the comments about Andy's passing.  At first, I felt
silly for feeling such emotion for the passing of an actor whom I had never
met.  As I read the comments, I realized I was not alone in my emotional
reaction.  The feedback on this digest has helped me to process Andy's death
and to come to terms with how important Mayberry has been and is in my life.  I
no longer feel silly but feel deeply moved by the reactions and the true
expression of emotions from the Mayberry community.  Thanks to everyone here
for sharing your thoughts.
