Sand Pebbles Veterans on TAGS
Just finished watching the Sand Pebbles and was surprised at the number of TAGS alum! Of course Gavin McCloud was an obvious stand out, but I also spotted Barney Phillips [Eddie Brooke] (though I didn't know his name until I looked him up.) I'm ashamed to say that there were three more I found on IMDB that I didn't catch! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Things That Don't Make Sense
Ken, I agree with you regarding Andy and Barney driving the car back. Why would they drive the car back and how were they going to get back?! In "Andy & Opie Housekeepers", Aunt Bee was uppset over how messy Andy & Opie were, but that was the only time we ever saw the house that messy. Also in that episode, Clara cleaned up the entire house in the time it took Andy & Opie to go get Aunt Bee at the bus station! Pretty fast cleaning! And would a woman really get upset if the house was clean when she got home?! Also it never made sense that Andy would take advice on relationships fro Floyd and Barney. And of course, one of the biggest no sense makers was hanging the key between the cells where any prisoner could reach them! --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Alumni Sighting
Our local MeTV here in Oklahoma plays Mayberry RFD instead of TAGS at night. The other night I was watching an episode where Sam Jones and Aunt Bee go into a fabric shop, and you would never be able to guess who was shopping in that establishment. None other than Nice Dress Nelly. I know there is a listing of all the times Nice Dress Nelly appears on TAGS, but I wonder if there is any list of all the times she appeared on Mayberry RFD? I remember seeing her in at least one other episode. Orville Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
curious
In the episode where the lawyer came down to learn about the law business there was something in it that made no sense. When Barney wrote out the ticket to him, why did Barney tear it up and throw it on the street? Being a stickler about littering, he should have given himself a ticket. Citizen's arrest, citizen's arrest. If at first you don't succeed, try and hide your astonishment. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Things that just don't make sense
Here's another plot hole that has always bugged me. In A Plaque for Mayberry, two ladies from the Women's Historical Society are trying to track down the direct descendant of war hero Nathan Tibbs. They think he lives in Mayberry, because "so far we haven't been able to trace him to any of the other towns." How in the world did they figure out that Nathan Tibbs even HAD a living descendant? Genealogical research always starts with the known present and then looks toward the unknown past. Did they find an old newspaper article that read "200 years from now, Nathan Tibbs will have exactly one living descendant, and he will live in North Carolina"? Impossible. Curiosities in Mayberry
Something that always made me wonder is how Opie would be left alone at home at a young age. DEFACS would have a field day on that. Andy and Aunt Bee would be arrested for child endangerment these days. Elizabeth in Ga (feels like Russia - brr) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Things that make no sense
I never lived in a small town - but in a town the size of Mayberry and a police force of only two - how can both Andy and Barney continually be off duty together and out of communication with - I guess Sarah? They are at dances, dinners, traveling and on and on throughout the series together morning, afternoon and nights - who is safe guarding the town? As illogical as this is to me - it is strangely endearing to me, as by implication it makes Mayberry a uniquely safe, secure and for the most part crime-free living environment. Fife/Phyfe
After seeing today's episode about the descendant of Nathan Tibbs and hearing Barney claim relation to Duncan Phyfe saying "sooner or later someone had to spell it right" I decided to look up Duncan. Wikipedia had this: Born Duncan Fife near Loch Fannich, Scotland, he emigrated with his family to Albany, New York in 1784 and served as a cabinetmaker’s apprentice. By the time of his marriage in 1793, he appears in the New York directories as a "joiner," but by 1794 he called himself "cabinetmaker" and had changed the spelling of his name to Phyfe. So maybe Barney was related to Duncan after all. Also, I love how in this episode Barney is so sure he is the descendant of Nathan yet when the real descendant (Otis) is named barney stands behind him 100%. Just one of many reasons to love ol' Barn. Sent from my iPad ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
