Perhaps the biggest mystery of the show is what the man’s real name was. None of the cast or writers remember. I put on my thinking bucket and came up with something. Someone had to PAY the man. Is it possible there could be records of that or perhaps contacting whoever actually made out the checksif they are still living. He was also on two episodes of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., so again, his name had to be on the payroll. Is there anyone associated with the show that would have access to that? Amazed how many TAGS Alumni show-up on other shows
Watching MEtv and there was a commercial/promo for Perry Mason. You know how they 'flash' scenes from the upcoming show, well, there must have been 3 or 4 and alumni were in 2 of them. One was Gentlemen Dan and the other was the gentleman who delivered the bows and arrows to the young ones on the episode where Barney, who was with Gomer, got lost. Return To Mayberry
Alan: Shame - Shame - Shame on you for hiding for 17 years the letter from Harvey Bullock about the "other" possible ending to Return To Mayberry. Having said that, Thank You for finding it and sharing it with your Mayberry family. It was nice to hear about, and my imagination dreams up what it would have looked like. I can see how it would have left the viewers at the end of the series with the peaceful feeling that everything is OK in Mayberry. The actual ending also left that feeling with me.
