A fellow customer answered your question,
"Can this be used for crow's feet and prickly rash? "
C. Dell answered:
"I’m sorry I do not know the answer to that. I actually used it on my dog

Barney, badgeless (trained noticing)

2020-10-24 Thread Curt Granger
While watching "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" this morning, I noticed that after the
"giraffes are selfish" scene, wgen they return from retrieving the dogs,
Barney doesn't have his badge on, and it's missing for the remainder of the
episode, until the epilogue, when it's back on. He's wearing it during the
giraffes scene. You can also clearly see the outline of a pack of
cigarettes in his pocket.

I'm really surprised the state inspector didn't notice. He must have been
too preoccupied with the dogs to really be inspectin'.

Speaking of noticin', has anyone ever noticed that after the "no good

Very well stated. I actually now enjoy noticing the inconsistencies, and
continuity errors. It gives one's imagination an opportunity to envision
"what-if" scenarios. I also now enjoy noticing scenery and backgrounds that

Some of you trained noticers may have already noticed, but while watching

RE: versitis

2018-10-07 Thread Curt Granger
The term has appeared in at least three episodes - "Andy and Opie,
Housekeepers," "Merchant of Mayberry," and "Divorce, Mountain Style."

Since Bert Miller used it as reference to his arm pain, one can assume it
was a twist on Bursitis, a real medical condition (inflammation of the
bursae) that causes pain. Also commonly referred to as tennis elbow,
although it can affect other areas of the body's joints. Since it was used
by Aunt Bee, Bert, and Barney, it's also likely the writers did it
intentionally, and was not meant to be a "Barney-ism."

At least that's the way Upchurch and I see it.

Best "trained noticer" episode

2016-01-05 Thread Curt Granger
As a self-proclaimed trained noticer, I would like to nominate "A Black Day
For Mayberry" as the best episode to train trained noticers. There have
been many observations made and documented in the past, such as the
different Treasury agent sitting when Opie crosses the room to talk to
Barney (the actor who had the seizure while filming), but I am still making
discoveries when I watch.

Fairly well-known:

- Only episode to feature Rance, Ronny, and Clint Howard

- It's actually raining when Andy drives up, and enters the courthouse.
Sprinkles can be seen in the pools of water.

- Had nearly all the regular extras on set/on film.

- The squad car/gold truck chase scene was run numerous times with the
camera at different locations, but all occurred on the same short stretch
of road. The tire tracks give it away.

And, I just observed today:

- Barney is holding a Mount Airy telephone directory while talking with the
T-men. Not "Mt. Pilot," but what appears to be a real Mount Airy directory.
The most logical way this could have come onto the set was from was Andy
himself. Probably to keep in touch with folks from home.

- When Gomer is looking for Regis, he is actually right around the corner;
side of courthouse (appears in 2 instances).

- Nice Dress Nellie must have a twin sister ;-) - she is also right around
the corner in the same crowd scene with Regis, and then again near the
front of the courthouse.

- Ron Howard holds Clint's arm/hand (to restrain him, or direct him?) while
they are atop the squad car when the gold truck is leaving. I like to think
of it as Ron being a watchful older brother.

I welcome others to offer more "notices" in this episode. For trained
noticers, it's big. Really BIG. I'm going to extend my lunch break and
watch it again right now. =)

On another subject, another thing that didn't make sense - Barney sang off

Re: Barney's Replacement

2013-03-13 Thread Curt Granger
I've noticed that as well, and I like to think it's a character trait,
either intention (by the writers) or unintentional, of Barney's, same as
his illegal u-turn in "Citizen's Arrest." He also litters in "Barney and
the Governor" when, just after his speech on littering (that you
referenced), he grabs the old man's cigar and tosses it onto the
sidewalk or street.

So, Gomer's the only one that I can recall that's called him on it. Shazam!

I am not sure if this has been discussed before (it could have been, when I
was fishing at Meyer's Lake..or just not paying attention), but I was
watching "Barney's Replacement" today, and noticed for the first time what
happens when Barney writes a ticket for the departing deputy (Rogers) for
parking in the police parking spot in front of the courthouse. After
lecturing him for a moment, Barney smiles, and says he was just kidding him
to teach him a lesson. He then proceeds to take the ticket back and tear it
up, wishes him well, and throws the pieces of the ticket on the ground.
After Rogers drove away, Barney walks off to patrol the streets of Mayberry,
and Andy smiles as he watches him walk away.

As I watched the end of the show, I fully expected Andy to write Barney a
ticket for littering. After all, litter brings slums, and slums bring
crime..

Reversed scenes

2012-11-09 Thread Curt Granger
I enjoyed all the responses regarding reverses scenes. The actual scene
I was referring to was in "The Merchant of Mayberry," when Ben Weaver
first enters the scene. It was made to look as if he was crossing the
street towards Crowley's Market, and one can see the car tag is
reversed, as well as the theater being on the wrong side of the street.
I don't ever recall anyone mentioning that particular scene. I also was
not aware of some of the other scenes folks have mentioned, so I feel as
good as Ernest T. Bass when he received his Special Award for Learning.
Those TAGS editors were quite "Slickity."

2012-11-06 Thread Curt Granger
While watching a very familiar TAGS episode yesterday I spotted a short,
3 second clip where the film had been reversed, or "flipped" if you
will. I noticed it first by observing that something just didn't look

found concrete evidence that the film had actually been flipped to it's
mirror-image side, during editing I'm sure.

Re: TAGS on METV

2012-05-15 Thread Curt Granger
I was under the impression that Viacom, who owns MTV and TVLand, owns
the rights to TAGS, and they control licensing for broadcasting the
show. It's shown locally here in Birmingham AL on WTTO/CW21 daily, and I
imagine quite a few other stations across the country. It's also now
available to stream-on-demand via Netflix, (no more changing DVDs!) so
apparently whoever they decide to sell broadcast rights to can air it.
Perhaps they just choose not to license to cable-only networks since
TVLand is cable. Makes sense to me.

father has a rock to strike matches. His mother has a clock in her stomach
and does not like people to wear her hat, etc etc.
Anyway I had no memory of Andy ever mentioning either of his parents. But in

mentions his father or what story he tells about his father? Here is a hint:
 It involves a weapon.

However, the next scene shows him sneaking up to the window from what I think

It's always fun for a trained noticer to spot little continuity errors. I
watched Barney's Physical just a couple nights ago on Netflix (I don't have
cable, so I get my TAGS fix from DVDs of the first 4 seasons and from Netflix
streaming) and never caught either of the main two goofs pointed out in this
clip. (I guess I was just too busy following the plot). For those of you who
like a mystery, I won't give away the main goof, but I will point out how clean
Barney's plate is at the end of his meal. After eating so many corncobs, it's
no wonder he ended up with such a case of the hiccups!

Nice Dress Nellie appears in many episodes, sometimes as far away as

which episode, (maybe season Two?) but Andy passes her on the street and
says "Hi Nellie." Since she is always wearing a "nice dress" someone
came up with the nickname (I reckon it was a trained noticer). Don't
know if it was one of the members here, but it's been in use as long as
I can remember. Another interesting tidbit - She's seen leaving the
church arm in arm with Tom Jacobs in "The Sermon For Today" but lives in
the adjacent house to Tom in "A Deal Is A Deal." Like it's been

whole dollar, when in "The Case Of The Punch In The Nose" he disputed 25 cents
for tonic that Floyd used. Also in the next scene (hotel) we can see the big

More Barney Fife quotes

2008-06-20 Thread Curt Granger
"Opie, The Birdman" episode could be a record for the number of Barney sayings!
Here's a couple more:

"(Besides,) a bird in the house means there's gonna be a death in the family."

"You know what they say... Homely at the cradle, pretty at the table."

If only he'd used the famous "nip it!" sayin'

There's even a Johnny Paul Jason sayin', which Barney corrects of course.
("stunts their growth a little")

Classic! No wonder it's a top 10 fav. Someone want to go through and count 'em
all?

Barney Fife Quotes

Barney had some great quotes! Here's a practical one:

"Get your tongue in Op. That's a bad habit, you could bite it off."

Re: The Digest is back in Town

2008-05-29 Thread Curt Granger
As a huge Thin Lizzy fan, I can appreciate that re-write! Next time I do
that song with my cover band, I may just throw in a few of those lines!
Nice work. (and glad to see the digest working again) :-)

Color episodes

I've started watching the Season 6 DVD set, and what's the first thing I
do?... Set the color on my TV to zero/off. Does anyone else do this?

Re: WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 9, Issue 102

2008-04-11 Thread Curt Granger
Thanks Mike! That's the episode I was considering checking next, but
*gasp* I let my Bible study leader borrow my first season DVD set. Um...
time to get it back. ;)

There were probably several set changes too after the first season. But
the "growing consensus" is that the door would have been on the Foley's
Market side. Speaking of the beauty parlor, what happened to that? The
owner must have decided they wanted to be closer to the bank, so they
moved after season 1? (Remember when Barney broke through the bank vault
into the beauty parlor?) Floyd must have decided to have that adjoining
door filled in. Who would want waiting haircut customers hanging around
in the TV shop? ;)

In other related news, I redeemed an AT&T rebate card to purchase season
6 and 7 DVDs. "'Bout time I modernized!" :D

Noticing - No TV repair shop door?

2008-04-08 Thread Curt Granger
A question for the trained noticers: Is it me, or does anyone else
notice that there is no door to the TV repair shop next to Floyd's
barbershop? Or was it on the other side next to Foley's market? I don't
recall seeing it there, and there's a photo from the Star Trek series
that shows that side of Foley's market, and no door -
http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/startrek/mayberry/city9.jpg

It didn't seem to get much business during the first 5 seasons. The only
time TV repair was mentioned (that I recall) was when Barney brought
George (Howard Morris) out to the lake to tell Helen about her set. I
suppose it would be hard to get a set repaired or shop for a new one if
there were no door to enter the store.

Re: Laughter

2008-04-08 Thread Curt Granger
Speaking of characters/actors laughing, another one is in "Ernest T.
Bass Joins the Army." While the physician is giving Ernest T. his exam
the army doctor (Paul Smith) laughs after one "classic" Ernest T.
remark. I imagine it was difficult to contain laughter when working with
Howard Morris - he was brilliant, and I wish they would have done more
stories/episodes with his character.

Re: Marberry Deja Vu

2008-03-19 Thread Curt Granger
Andy and Barn did the "attack me with the knife and I'll show you how to
defend against that" bit twice. One time was in an epilogue, so for many
years I wasn't aware of it until I got the DVDs.

I'm sure I could think of others if I didn't just eat my third piece of
apple crumb pie and reach my high water mark...

Re: Trained noticer

2008-01-31 Thread Curt Granger
I watch episodes from the first 5 seasons on DVD twice a day - once
during my lunch break at work, and then in the evening before bedtime.
I've become a pretty good noticer. I was just telling a friend (and
fellow TAGS fan) tonight about that window.

My most memorable "notice" was the missing courthouse window in the
first season. That one used to drive me crazy, especially in the episode
where it was missing on the inside, then when they were shooting outside
on the back lot it was there. Then there was the episode with the
painted squad car that could be seen from the open courthouse door.
Whew, that was bad!

Familiar cabin

2007-08-28 Thread Curt Granger
The Forbes (Barney's Bloodhound) and Charlie O'Malley
(Convicts-at-Large) had the same cabin. I wonder if it was The Darling's
cabin as well, as we only see the back of The Darling place (in Mountain
Wedding). One day I'd like to have a cabin in the mountains like that
one. Another "dream" to look forward to. :-)
