Post Office References

2020-07-07 Thread Sandra Gore
I am sure this has been discussed before, but has there ever been an episode
that showed the inside of the Post Office? I have noticed that there are a lot
of episodes that mention the Post Office. Maybe that could be a challenge. List
episodes that mention the Post Office. Also, has anyone ever wondered how the
mail got delivered? I have seen episodes where Opie brings in a letter to Andy
at the courthouse before going off to school, Andy drops off a package for
Barney at the courthouse in the evening. I think I remember seeing a post man
in the episode with Mr. Wheeler, but I am not sure. Any thoughts?

Jigging in a shanty

2020-01-31 Thread Sandra Gore
From what I can tell, "jigging" is simply dropping a weighed jig, baited with a
maggot, to the bottom, then lifting it six inches or so from the bottom and
“jigging” it up and down to attract fish. I defer to the expert ice fishermen
to clarify it better. But the point he (Matthew McConaughey) was making is
that sitting in a heated SUV was better than sitting out on the ice in a shanty
pulling a fishing line up and down.

Howard Morris movie

2019-11-28 Thread Sandra Gore
 Subject: alumni sighting
I was astounded the other day when flipping thru the channels. I came
across some movie from the 50s I believe it was in which our Ernest T
was a normal guy married to Patti Page! He spoke normally and looked
normal too. Of course I recognized him right away but he was so
different, aka? "normal" that it was eerie! Just shows the talent of the
man! Mayberry, it's everywhere!!!

I think the movie you were referring to was Boy's Night Out from 1963. It
starred Kim Novak, James Garner , Tony Randall and, like you said, a very
"normal" Howard Morris (aka Ernest T Bass). I had to look twice to realize it
was actually him.

And Ken, I sympathize as to your recent barber visit. I too am
uncomfortable with people who sport unnaturally-colored hair and
tattoos. I hope you can find a decent, traditional barber somewhere
nearby and enjoy it from now on.

Aunt Bee on The Lone Ranger

2017-12-29 Thread Sandra Gore
I saw Francer Bavier (Aunt Bee) on The Lone Ranger. She played Aunt Maggie. Not
to give away the ending, but this was a different role for her than sweet Aunt
Bee. Even Tonto tells the Lone Ranger that he would rather fight her nephew
than to fight her. The name of the episode is called Sawtelle Saga's End.

It's been awhile since I've seen the episode, but didn't Mayor Stoner say that
they were running the interstate by his brother's gas station? Maybe Wally's
station was the only station IN town and the other one was on the outskirts of
town by the interstate. Just a thought.

Re:camera use in Mayberry

2017-04-19 Thread Sandra Gore
Although it wasn't shown, a camera was used to take Barney's photograph for the
newspaper when he solved "The Walker case". Also, when Howard caught the fish.
Aunt Bee had her picture taken for the flower show. They also wanted to take a
picture of Andy and the barbershop quartet in their outfits. Then there was the
infamous baseball game where Helen took the pictures. Aunt Bee and her 2
friends took pictures on their trip to Mexico and pictures were taken during
their trip to Hollywood. There was also several episodes where people appeared
"on camera", like when Aunt Bee was the "Foster Lady" or when she had her
cooking show, or when she was on the game show and won all of the prizes. But
that's a whole other list.

New Housekeeper. The Manhunt. Opie and the Bully. Andy and the Woman Speeder.
Opie's Hobo Friend. The Clubmen. Bailey's Bad Boy. The Jinx. Opie's Rival. The
Bed Jacket. One-Punch Opie. Andy and Opie's Pal. Andy's Vacation. Andy Saves
Gomer. Family Visit. Barney's Bloodhound. Andy and Helen Have Their Day. A

Was Mayberry a dry county?

2015-09-18 Thread Sandra Gore

I was watching "The Christmas Story" episode the other day and heard something
that I had not picked up on before. Ben Weaver was wanting Sam Muggins arrested
for making moonshine. He said something about store owners having a hard time
selling their "spirits" because people like Sam were making their moonshine
illegally. If Mayberry is a dry county, then how can the store owners sell
"spirits".

New Businesses/Real Estate

2015-09-02 Thread Sandra Gore
Mayberry seemed to have a lot of new businesses opening up creating jobs for
some and investments for others. There was the Chinese Restaurant, The
(Counterfeit) Printing Co. , the new Meat Market, the Laundromat, Bert's "this
and that" stand, Opie's Lemonade Stand. Then, we had Barney selling real estate
on the side, Howard buying the lease to the Barber Shop, and Goober buying
Wally's Gas Station. I am sure there are a lot more.

Opie

2015-03-10 Thread Sandra Gore

Has anyone else noticed that when Opie shows his excitement about something,
like showing his Pa his report card or getting a reward of some kind, he always
licks his lips. I was always curious as to whether that was his own personal
acting technique for expressing excitement or if the director instructed him to
do that. It is distracting to me when I see it because it doesn't seem natural
somehow. Just my humble opinion.

"Winter"

2014-10-11 Thread Sandra Gore

I don't recall any winter scenes, but there were several episodes that hinted
that the weather could get cold in Mayberry. In "Aunt Bee the Warden" and "Andy
Saves Gomer", Otis and Gomer chop firewood. In The Bedjacket", Andy says Aunt
Bee may need the bedjacket for when the nights get cool. In "Suppose Andy Gets
Sick", Andy has the flu. And in the episode where Andy takes a vacation and
ties the escaped convict to a tree, he puts his jacket on him to keep him warm.

Barney's Courage

2014-07-15 Thread Sandra Gore

I was watching the "TV or Not TV" episode and noticed that Barney showed real
courage when he thought the bank was being robbed by going in to catch the

make a good trivia challenge but I am sure that a few of you can come up with a
lot more answers than I have.

Re: Bavier marriage

2014-05-25 Thread Sandra Gore

Her father was Charles Samuel Bavier (1850-1920) and her mother was Mary S.
Birmingham (1870 - ?). In the 1910 census, she was living at 7 years of age in
Manhattan, Ward 17, NYNY. Her father was then 51.
In the 1920 census Frances is 17 and the Bavier family was living in
Manhattan, Assembly District 7, NYNY. The head of the household was
still her father, Chas S. Bavier 69. In the 1930 census, Frances is 25.

So in 1910 her dad was 51 and in 1920 he was 69? Also in 1920 Frances was 17
but in 1930 she was only 25? Curious!!!

Rooms in the Taylor home

2013-04-28 Thread Sandra Gore
In the episode where there is a Summit meeting in Mayberry, it was said (many
times) that the Taylor home had 4 bedrooms and 1-and-a-half baths. Not sure
what
the floor plan was for the upstairs, so I don't know where the "half bath" room
was located. But here's my real question. Obviously, Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee
each had their own room. The "guest" room was used quite a bit (Barney, Gomer,
The Handy Man, The guy who got evicted, etc). So...why, when Aunt Bee's sister,
Nora and her husband, Ollie and their 2 boys came to visit...did they not use
the guest room then. Ollie shared a bed with Andy. Nora with Aunt Bee. And the
2
boys crowded in with Opie.

Tornado & song

2011-05-24 Thread Sandra

Cheery hello to all,

It saddens me to know so many are once again dealing with the
devastation a tornado leaves behind. We have some dear friends that
lost a son in the Tuscaloosa storm in April, and now to hear about
Joplin, it's just heart wrenching. Glad Mr. Mulik and family are all
well, and like he said stuff can be replaced.

As to my favorite song, I don't believe any one has mentioned it yet,
but I could have overlooked it, but I just love it when Andy and Barney
sing "Spread a little Sunshine"...ain't that perty?

Lots of luck to you and yours,
