Night Shoots and Dialog Additions
Hey Joe, I always thought it was due to the technology, as you said. Maybe the film couldn't handle it, or it would prove too expensive to light the set adequately. Another thing along those lines you mentioned, is that some shows would shoot without location sound. So, if the Andy Griffith show was shooting at the 40 Acres lot, it's conceivable that they may have shot without sound and added dialog later. The Avengers (British 60s show) was, in its early 60s era, shot without sound on location shoots. There's one scene that comes to mind on TAGS. Barney has been stood up by Thelma Lou (and Gomer). Andy finds him at the courthouse, all dressed up with a bag of fudge. Together, they go out and check the doors, Barney sharing the fudge with Andy. There are a couple of lines that Barney says while he has his mouth full of fudge, outside. That makes me wonder if some of that dialog was added later. Names of Episodes in Dialog
Well now we have some impressive lists thanks to Neil Bentley and Harriet the Chicken Thief. Leave it to a Lawyer to throw more paperwork at you that you can handle. Amongst Neil's List (and Your Honor I have to disqualify the ones with just one word besides The or A like The Inspector the Manicurist ((which I already 10-4ed) The Lodge, Cannon, Bazaar-those are just too easy) but beside those an impressive list!!! One that I was looking for that Andy says..well Harriet said it well Somewhere, wondering around town is a. Loaded goat. The other one that Neil nailed was the Fun Girls. I think Thelma Lou says if first they Seem Like Fun Girls then Later, I believe Andy and Barney both refer to them as Fun Girls Mr. McBeevee-that was a good one that they both came up with..and how could I forget. Bargain Day???I'll have to have the Boys at the lab check that one..don't remember that A New Doctor in Town-that one might be good..trained noticers?? Opie's Most Unforgettable Character...are you sure somebody says that including Opie's??? Suppose Andy Gets sick=--Don't remember hearing that Mr. Bentley we'll file a continuance and have to do more investigation, just leave your card..no no I didn't say that..we'll be in touch. Why don't you go back to the Miracle Salve case for a while. Other guesses?? Can Anyone debunk any of these?? Great job Neil and Harriett!! Title in the Dialog--spoken by characters
Thanks to Mike CJ Becker and David Quinn for these answer so far, to my question..what Episodes Titles (with more than one word beside the or a) are contained in the Dialog spoken by characters. Mike, your answers are all new to meand I can picture two of them being spoken. I'll have to wait for the official verification (me watching the DVD ) on Stranger in Town, but I'll bet you are right. The Keeper of the Flame, Stranger in Town, Battle of Mayberry Mike CJ Becker/Ernest T Bass Now David, you nailed one of my three, good job. That one is probably the most memorable. Regarding the title of the show being spoken in the dialogue, the most famous one would of course be Citizen's Arrest. Not only did Gomer run across the street yelling Citizen's Arrest, Citizen's Arrest, but Barney later tells Andy Old nutsy here runs across the street yelling citizen's arrest, citizen's arrest. But the other two I have in mind are still out there, so I can't 10-4 ya yet The hints are ..One is spoken by Andy, in a rather concerned tone of voice. The other one I'm thinking of is spoken by Andy And Barney and One other person, I believe. And Yes Mike Manhunt would be good if it was two words...buts it's just one word like you were (wait that's two words...who was lurking around Weaver's at night?) ...more answers welcome. Marsha and Ken, it s good to hear about James Best. His usual shtick at shows would be to come out with a guitar and Sheet music for Rock and Roll Rosie from Raleigh...and talk while holding the guitar as if he is eventually going to play, which of course he never did. Those old stars are great to have around, and it saddens me to hear that another one. Mitch Jayne, has fallen gravely ill. One of the few Mayberry Events I've been lucky enough to attend..the curtains opened to the familiar music of the Darlings, and Pipe Smoke created a cloud above Mitch as he puffed away, and The Dillards played familiar songs with Mitch strumming the String Bass. It was one of the goose-bump feelings when you think you are really transported back to Mayberry. Then, Mitch came up to the Microphone and talked about the Andy Griffith Show. He talked about how hard they all laughed when they filmed the scene where the Darling boys were all sleeping and snoring..and how many takes it took, because they could not stop laughing. He also talked about his line bout to pop and shared great memories of Denver Briscoe Pyle. My thoughts and prayers to the Jayne family. Titles in Dialog
I've noticed before that in two or three episode in particular, the Title of the Episode (minus a small word such a or the) is included in the actual words spoken by the characters..three times I think..by different characters in one case, multiple times by two characters in another, and once by Andy in another. As with most discoveries, there are probably more than I recall, so I'll post this as a trivia question. What episodes is the actual title to the episode included in the spoken words of the characters? Now, as I post the link below, for anyone who does not have a book with the Episode names, it occurs to me that there are several one-word Titles that might qualify such as the Jinx and the Manicurist so I'll just say the ones I have in mind have at least two words..(besides a or the) Here is a link to episode names http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/ep_guide.htm I'm sure you can find my three, perhaps many more. Maybe we can have some other Dialog about how Episode title were established. Before Books and tapes/DVDs, they were probably largely unknown outside the writers/creators.. ..Enjoyed the podcast about Other if the Darling boys talked there could have been a line about..this is Rodney and this is my Other Brother or something like that. Dialog question
In the episode High Noon in Mayberry Barney gets in an argument with the mail carrier. He tells him just wait til he parks in the wrong spot sometime. It sounds to me like he responds with; as long as I'm carrying the mail I have right of way over Ambulance, firetrucks (or something along those lines) than he adds what sounds like and Heavier than aircraft That doesn't make any sense though. I would love to know what he is really saying. Anyone tell me? Johnna Fayetteville, AR _ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. dialog
Does anyone know the exact dialog where Andy and Barney were trying to figure who people were by looking in the yearbook and Andy was pointing out about a certain fellow who was involved in a lot of sports and Barney says: Oh yeah, I remember now, he was always sweating!
