vacations

2011-07-25 Thread Linn Family
Speaking of vacations (and I didn't even need a bucket for this one) how
'bout the time Aunt Bee went to Mexico with Clara and Myrtle? Even though
she won the trip in a contest, I think it still counts as a vacation.

Vic, don't forget about the vacation that Barney suggested Andy take. Wasn't
he supposed to go visit one of the "rabiit girl" clubs? Also I think Barney's
suggested trip included a place in Florida with an Alligator swamp. (or was
that the great dismal swamp?)

My mind is a little foggy right now and I am a half-world away from my
DVDs..literally. As I write this we are on kind of a differnt vacation
outsleves. We are in Seoul Korea exploring the land where my adopted daughter
was born. I'm doing ok even though we didn't bring any canned goods and I
don't speak of word of Asian.

Its sure great to escape back to Mayberry for a few minutes thought the Digest.
I met a lady yesterday who runs a Chiness Restaurant on an Island (yes in
South Korea). She said that she took it over when someone else decided to
close it. I thought of course of our Aunt Bee.

Great to hear from you Allan. I like your ideas and focus. I enjoy reading
the Digest evert day but we seem to often venture off topic.

Mayberry vacations

2011-07-24 Thread Victor Friskey
My son, daughter-in-law and grandkids are on vacation and stopped in for a
couple of days..We all enjoyed seeing each other again and had a lot of fun
sharing our time together..
This got me to thinking, and with this being the time of year a lot of folks
take vacations I thought about all the vacations that were either mentioned or
taken by Mayberrians..I put my thinking bucket on my head and came up with a
few..
1. The time Andy and Barney went to Raliegh
2.  Cousin Virgil came to visit
3.  Andy takes a vacation to the mountains
4.  Andy's uncle Ollie comes to visit
5.  The Taylors go to Hollywood
6.  Goober goes on a fishing trip
7.  Barney writes home about Virgil and him being on vacation

Well that's enough to show you where I'm going with this...There were a lot of
vacations either talked about or taken..So put a bucket on your head and take a
'thank'. You'll be surprised..

The first vacation that came to mind was when Barney went to Raleigh
and stayed at the YMCA. He wrote a letter to Andy and the boys telling
them about his early morning breakfast and the waitresses with peek-a-
boo blouses. Opie wanted to know if that was like when you play peek-a-
boo with babies. Also, in the color show when Andy, Helen, Howard and
an old 'friend' of Andy's went to the mountains for a weekend. Chimney
Rock was mentioned. In Rutherford County in western NC there is Lake
Lure and Chimney Rock where my family had a cabin on the lake. My
father's family is from Rutherfordton (my Mayberry) and I have spent
summers on that lake since I was born as we go way back in that
area. Elizabeth in Ga

I agree that the best place to have a vacation is home.  With all that is going
on in the world, you're safer at home.  Have a happy staycation.
