[wdvltalk] Re: Photoshop Graphics
Hallo Cheryl, --- Cheryl D. Wise / Sonntag 23.02.2003, 22:58:52 Photoshop Graphics Depending on the complexity of the image it could be either format. The more complex an image is in terms of number of colors/graduations of color the more likely jpg will provide better results. But if you are using Photoshop why don't you simply try both and see which one gives you an image quality/size you are happy with. ... In Photoshop there is a nice feature (don't know in English). It's on the first Menu (I think it's called 'Files') and below'Save as...' you find a Menu Item 'Save for Web...' or so. Using this option you can play around until you find the right setting. Hope this helps. I am always surprised at the visual quality on screen of so little file information. As Eddie points out, with the Save for Web choice on the File menu you have a wide set of choices to play with (probably more with PS 7 than 5.5) and about the same with Image Ready. In the end I find file size (download time) is the bigger factor than quality; and it can even be that different pictures need different formats. Sophisticated as the machines and progams are they are still logical idiots. If you want that quality in print or through computer printer you are into a whole other ballgame, of course. I'm using version 6.00.2800.1106 I create graphics, as well as teach a graphics program online. I've test png in both MSIE 6 and mozilla, and NN 7. Slightly on a tangent - There's some useful Photoshop freebies at http://graphicssoft.about.com , plus good tutorials on other graphics packages too - I've just been looking at masks for decorative edges on photos which I've earmarked as 'might come in handy' on other projects.
