Re: [web2py] Re: webfaction clean install unable to save any files in admin edit mode

Any progress with uwsgi?

I am about to give up on this project and will have to wait for another to
try web2py again. I have a deadline of having to renew a hosting
arrangement and that date is pretty much fixed. It is now nearly two weeks
since I decided to give web2py a shot and unfortunately I have had no joy in
installing it within my parameters, so I feel that I have little choice
here, for now.

Thanks for trying to help

Michel

Yes Johann,

I also believe that there is something happening webfaction side and I think
that they are fiddling something. It has happened before in my short
experience and I am slightly weary.

Your issue is probably different as in this case it was working and then
stopped without any interference on my part.

Thanks anyway

Kind regards

Michel

I also had some strange issues on Webfaction involving uwsgi and one of the
possible causes that came to light was that the wrong ownership of some
files that prevented admin from functioning properly. The suport people at
Webfaction fixed that for me as some of the files had 'root' ownership.

Ah, ok, I thought this was a different branch and that I had to use a
different repo name or branch to pull it.

But now, uwsgi, doesn't seem to work again. So I am not sure about
introducing another issue prior to fixing the main one.. to have uwsgi
working.

In the directory where you cloned the sources yesterday, run

hg pull
hg update
make

Maybe there are different uWSGI versions in your account, check the
startup logs to see which one is running

Bad news...

I left my site well alone after the success yesterday.

This morning, unfortunately, it was as if nothing had be done.

I killed uwsgi and re-started after overwriting the copy... All to no
avail...

I get the double log in (wth two web2py logos in top left corner), and
request to re-log in, nearly every page, and a communication error on any
attempt to save a file in the admin panel.

That's all folks!

I am getting suspicious that things are achanging from under my feet at
webfaction. Is that paranoia?

But where do I download the code for that version?

Re: [web2py] Re: webfaction clean install unable to save any files in admin edit mode

Ok Roberto,

I am willing to try that. Does this version of uwsgi include the fix for my
problem?
Or can I run two different version of uwsgi at the same time. If so, is it
just a matter of renaming uswgi file to something different?

Thanks a lot, i would like to know it this new feature works out of the
box on webfaction:

http://projects.unbit.it/uwsgi/wiki/StatsServer

(using uwsgitop)

We are ready to backport it to the stable branch, so knowing if it works
in very resource-limited environment could be very useful.

Ok Roberto,

I managed to build and test. At first view It seems to work. I can modify
files and save them.

So, there is great progress, thanks a lot.

Is there anything else I could do to help you or the community in anyway?
Don't hesitate to ask or suggest.

Hi Roberto,

Unfortunately, it failed on the make. It is missing libxml2 development
package,

In the error message there is a mention of using libexpat or disabling
XML...

Anything I can do about this?

I have just committed support for X-FORWARDED-SSL header (it looks like it is
what webfaction is using). It works only in --http-socket mode
(not --http one). If you can install the mercurial version on webfaction and
test it, i will backport the patch to the stable tree.

Thanks

Yes, something like that is the cause.

Fine I can duplicate an re-duplicate here. I can insert any code to
debug/test and am quite prepared to help in anyway. I just need some
guidance as I am in an area where I have little knowledge (uwsgi).

I was meaning disabling it in:

applications/welcome/controllers/appadmin.py

i suspect the webfaction proxy is not passing the correct headers (or is
using some other technic) to let uWSGI knows the scheme is https.

This can be easy fixed with a WSGI middleware, but i would like to be sure
about it.
