Hello Raymond,

This is unneccessary noise on the list.

This will happen *all the time* on *all* mailing lists that *some recipient*
will seize to exist and mail bounces.

If it irritates you, do contact the list maintainer and ask him to remove the
offending address (in this case
rgur...@smarthealth.commailto:rgur...@smarthealth.com“) from the mailing
list, but posting on the list about it will absolutely not solve anything and
will only annoy those of us who use the list to keep track of meaningful
exchange of opinions and assistance.

Thank you.

Re: Queued mail sending

2014-01-29 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

Don't queue the email - that's something the mail server itself is proficient
at, not the WO framework (or any framework on top of that).

Instead, log the request - an email was requested. Send the email, and once the
email has been sent, mark the request as handled.

That way, if your Wapp happens to turn its toes towards the sky, it still has
the current state at restart.

And keep the log small. Very small. It should be fast end efficient (e.g.
USERID:REQUEST_TYPE:DATE:(BOOL)HANDLED )

 mailing framework, and the instance goes down before the mail is successfully
 sent to the SMTP server, the mail is lost. And if using the default
 non-blocking mode, and the SMTP server fails to accept the mail, it’s also
 lost if the instance is terminated before the queue gets a chance to deliver
 it again. Am I right on this for ERJavaMail?

 How do you deal with this? Is there another framework that does it better? I
 think there’s no way around having a persistent queue of some kind for
 outbound emails.

Re: Postgresql connection issue

2013-11-13 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

Exactly as Ramsey said - although if your database IS in fact on a remote
machine, you would not want trust, since that would imply anybody could
connect as anybody to any database.

If your database is mybase and your database user is myuser and your
development machine is 192.168.0.100, then your line ought to be something like:

hostmybase  myuser  192.168.0.100/32  md5

Only use a trust relationship if the server doesn't allow user logins or the
users logging in are truly trusted, and then only for 127.0.0.1/8 :)

- however

If your database happens to be on your _local_ machine (same as your
development/deployment) - like the Postgres.app for Mac OS X, then something
else is amuck.

One thing that comes to mind - does your database actually exist?

psql -l

lists the databases

IF the database you expect to use doesn't exist, of course there will be no
connection - so, if the database doesn't exist, I'll presume that the user
doesn't exist either. In that case, you'll need to create both.

As the user running the postgres database (logged-in user if Postgres.app or
postgres,psql or other db-centric user of the OS the DB is running on:

$ psql
# create user myuser password 'reallySecret2013';
...
# create database myuser owner myuser encoding='UTF8';
...
# exit

Then try connecting again.

Hope this helps :)

2013-10-24 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

I spent a long time metaphorically beating a bush because English showed up in
my app, and so did Icelandic (all characters within the scope of the first UTF8
frame) but Chinese did not.

Adding this to the Application() constructor was the solution:

setDefaultEncoding( UTF-8 );

 Theodore,

 Your fix (turning off the Ellipsis function) indicate that you app does not
 set it's encodings properly.

 The ellipsis should save (they save in my apps).

 Your HTML should began with something like this after the doctype declaration:
 head
   meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=utf-8/

 Your property file these settings:
 er.extensions.ERXApplication.DefaultEncoding=UTF-8
 er.extensions.ERXApplication.DefaultMessageEncoding=UTF-8

 I also add this one too in the Monitor to change the default file encoding so
 plist and .string files works in UTF-8: -file.encoding UTF-8

 You may want to keep multiple dots but this is another discussion and easily
 fixed with a String.replaceAll()...

 It seems that the newest Safari is substituting … for the last three

 My work around is to get her to use Firefox, but I would like to find what I

 I am writing a companion app that needs to access this same database and with

 All my pretesting deployment is being done on a second box. Again a mac mini
 but with Centos 6.2 and postgresql running on the same box.

 I just started to think, maybe I could just point the app on box number 2
 (Centos box) to the postgresql implementation on box 1 and set the ERJGroups
 IP to box one and be done. I already set the pg_hba.conf to permit box 2 to
 talk to box 1 postgresql implementation so this shouldn't be an issue.

 Let each app live on its own box.

 Keep in mind that these apps will have little real usage. Half a dozen users
 on each box banging all day long.

 Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

One reason why you should not, plenty of reasons why you should.

Why not:
Using the same data[base] for development and betatesting/production
means at some point the development screws up and mangles the data[base] for
the user == negative user/tester experience.

Why:
Using the same database server but _separate_ databases (eg: mydata and
mydata_dev ) saves cpu cycles - no need to have two separate servers running
unless you want replication or load balancing.

Half a dozen users is no measure - the size of the request and result
set is a better measure - as well as the [explain]. But - for a normal web
application, a dozen users should pose as a zero-threat to the database :)

It is less time-consuming to manage one database than two.

FWIW - I recommend having the db running on the Centos box rather than
the OS X box. Get http://sourceforge.net/projects/autopgsqlbackup/ and
configure it - you'll be glad if/when something happens to your data (make sure
you have enough disk space).

Re: Inline Elements

2013-06-10 Thread Þór Sigurðsson
It all depends on your settings in the $PROJECTROOT/build.properties file
component.inlineBindingPrefix and component.inlineBindingSuffix.

If you have:
component.inlineBindingPrefix=[
component.inlineBindingSuffix=]

Then you'd use:

wo:str value=[someVariable] /
or
wo:string ... /

but if you've got

component.inlineBindingPrefix=$
component.inlineBindingSuffix=

Then you'd use:

wo:str value=$someVariable /
or
wo:string ... /

See the pattern?

I use the latter - and I suspect you do too, although I have seen the former

Re: Inline Elements

2013-06-10 Thread Þór Sigurðsson
Nothing that I can see - the only difference from my properties is that I
define:

component.wellFormedTemplateRequired=false

You could try to add that and re-open your project to see if it helps, but if
you have $ as prefix and no suffix and use value=$somevariable and
somevariable is defined as:

public String somevariable = ;

or
public String somevariable() {
return .;
}
public void setSomevariable(String value) {
... = value;
}

and it still doesn't work, then I guess you'd need to post more info on your
project and setup than what's already been posted.

Re: wolips.properties hardcoded in build.xml

2013-06-06 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

Like this:

target name=init.properties
property file=build.properties /
property name=mysignaturedir
value=/Users/thors/I_AM_LEGEND /
condition property=wolips.properties
value=/some/really/creepy/location/for/a/secret/wolips/file
resourceexists
file file=${mysignaturedir} /
/resourceexists
/condition
property name=wolips.properties
value=${user.home}${file.separator}Library${file.separator}Application
Support${file.separator}WOLips${file.separator}wolips.properties /

Properties are immutable, so once set it can't be overwritten.

So...

If /Users/thors/I_AM_LEGEND exists (created with touch
/Users/thors/I_AM_LEGEND):

devc:WOSandkassi thors$ ant
Buildfile: /Users/thors/US/Sandkassi/WOSandkassi/build.xml

init.properties:

BUILD FAILED
/Users/thors/US/Sandkassi/WOSandkassi/build.xml:41: The properties
'wo.system.frameworks' and 'wo.local.frameworks' must be set. Check that your
/some/really/creepy/location/for/a/secret/wolips/file is correct.

Total time: 0 seconds
devc:WOSandkassi thors$

Fails because my /some/really/creepy/location/for/a/secret/wolips/file
doesn't exist ;)

If I remove the file, the build succeeds. If I copy the current props file to
this new name, it works also.

On 6.6.2013, at 08:09, Markus Ruggiero wrote:

property name=wolips.properties
value=${user.home}${file.separator}Library${file.separator}Application
Support${file.separator}WOLips${file.separator}wolips.properties /

Is there a way to make this dynamic? From Eclipse/WOLips preferences the name
of the file is available. Can ant access this value?

Reason:

I have several customers with several Wonder projects. For each customer I have
a separate workspace. Having a dedicated wolips.properties per customer (which
is perfectly doable and works) I can have the customers completely independent
of each other. Each customer can have its individual WebObjects and Wonder
version. Also I can prevent customer frameworks (that must be installed for a
build) to pollute my /Library/Frameworks folder. I would only have to edit the
name for wolips.properties in all the build.xml. That is doable and is what I
currently do.

A couple days ago I forgot that the build.xml references a custom named
wolips.properties and sent the project to the customer. They were not able to
build the application because at their site they use the standard named
wolips.properties.

Therefore my question: can the reference to wolips.properties be found from the
workspace settings and determined dynamically by ant?

Thanks a lot for any help

$ sudo port install ImageMagick

After that you just add a few entries to Properties file like this to switch
and you are done:

er.attachment.thumbnail.imageProcessor=imagemagick
er.attachment.ImageProcessor.imageMagickBinFolder.mac=/opt/local/bin

and if you deploy on Linux, just add this prop:
er.attachment.ImageProcessor.imageMagickBinFolder.linux=/usr/bin

Re: ImageIO Native Java 1.6

2013-04-02 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

Actually no - since macports and fink install dependant libraries that the
system already has installed, it's hardly an enhancement since now you have
_two_ or more sets of the same libraries which each needs its own method of
updating.

The net result of overusing fink/macports is a machine that requires more time
to manage than to use - hardly a productive result (unless you don't care about
security, updates or management, in which case it's perfectly fine).

One should strive to keep the management footprint at a minimum.

I know there are ways to configure git-svn before doing the migration to cope

Re: Problems displaying Chinese in WO application

2013-03-11 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

Hello Xavier,

Thank you for your input.

My browser is set to auto-detection (Normally I use Chrome, but once in a while
I fire up other browsers for compatibility tests) - and even if I fix it to
UTF-8, it makes no change.

Looking at the source, I see that WebObjects itself replaced the chinese
letters with question marks (i.e., it's not the browser which is failing on the
chinese output - it's my application).

Thinking back, I don't recall ever having been able to output asian characters,
neither chinese nor japanese in WO...

My webpage does contain an utf-8 meta header

headers and start of document:

HTTP/1.0 200 Apple WebObjects
cache-control: private
cache-control: no-cache
cache-control: no-store
cache-control: must-revalidate
cache-control: max-age=0
expires: Sun, 10-Mar-2013 12:33:53 GMT
content-type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1
pragma: no-cache

date: Sun, 10-Mar-2013 12:33:53 GMT
content-length: 2693

!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC -//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//EN
html
head
meta charset=utf-8

one thing I notice: The document is presenting itself as UTF-8, but the server
(java/WO) is presenting the root as latin-1 (iso88591). Now I can't imagine
that being any other than a problem. Then the question remains - where to
change that to turn it into a fully-fledged UTF8 service ?

 If it displays the Chinese text correctly, it means you are missing a

 -do you have something like meta http-equiv=content-type

 It shouldn't be a big issue, your setup seems pretty much as it should be.

Re: Hello World Project - Installation Development

2013-02-27 Thread Þór Sigurðsson
I actually reinstalled my laptop the other day, and having done numerous e3.7
and e3.8 installations in the past months both on Linux and OS X.7, I decided
to give this clean OS X.8 system the chance of e4.2 and the latest Wonder.

Previous installations have usually been accompanied by a grain of strain and a
barrel of bile (on my part) where any random thing could go wrong.

This time around however, I was pleasantly surprised.

e4.2 - success (this can hardly fail)
WOLips - success (this only fails if one gets the URL wrong)
*IGNORED* the wolips.543.properties advice - renamed
wolips.properties to .dist, created *new* wolips.properties from contents of
the webpage, and only did :s/YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE\!/thor/g
(yes yes.. I use vi...)
WO - (this only fails if the internet connection is borked)
Copy the woproject.jar to /usr/share/ant/lib
Wonder - (this has been my biggest problem so far, but this time.)
git clone
git checkout integration
for item in frameworks applications examples ; do ant $item
sudo ant $item.install ; done

Smooth as silk underwear.

From what I can see on the surface, there are still some quirks in 4.2 (like
the EOModeler, clicking fields populates them with data from other irrelevant
fields), but overall, it seems to do just fine. A project I'm working on will
serve as a proof of concept if 4.2 is ready (for me) or not :)

But thanks to the community and contributors for a surprisingly pleasant
install experience :)

*cheers!*

Þór

Re: table create and charset

2013-02-13 Thread Þór Sigurðsson

If I right-click on the .eomodeld file in the WO Explorer in Eclipse and select
properties there, I get the same properties window as you have ( with the sole
difference that I also have SVN Info since I have the project in SubVersion.
The other preference window I got after opening the eomodeld in EOModeler and
select the project-properties menu from within EOModeler..

But even there I see Inherited from container (UTF-8) where you have
Inherited from container (MacRoman).

Here's a snippet from our Eclipse configuration guide which we abide by :)

Component text encoding
• Right click on components.woo file and Open with - Text Editor.
• Replace encoding with NSUTF8StringEncoding

Settings in Eclipse
• All textfiles, code and components shall be UTF-8 encoded. Preferences -
General - Workspace - Text file Encoding (flipi) - Other: UTF-8 (there is one
exception from this rule, textfiles need to be saved as UTF-16. That is set for
each textfile separately and on demand.
• (Text file line delimiter UNIX ?)

Since you already created a project with MacRoman, you may need to recreate the
project after changing the settings and restarting Eclipse, but you may also
change the encoding of the project (right-click the project and select
preferences) and then change the encoding of each file as you move on. - Unless
your project is already very complex, a recreation may be beneficial in the
long run.
