Hi David, Hi Michael, :-) On Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 23:48, Michael Meeks michael.me...@novell.com wrote: Hi David, [...] * I would move the download link to the top - and have the explanation below it - it takes time to read through that text; I can feel my eyes getting tired - and - really, the platform / language combination is -really- sweet and simple. + eg. the German tranlation (missing an s) ;-) seems much crisper and prettier as of now. You're the second person to comment about this - Stefan made similar comments, too. I think the solution, therefore, will be to move the detailed instructions to a sub-page that will be accessible from the side menu (for inexperienced people), and just have a very brief text on the actual download page. I'll deal with this. I support Michael and Stefan (already wanted to include this in my mail about the main page, but didn't manage to do so). Downloading LibreOffice should be as easy as possible, so the download links must be the most prominent part of the page IMHO. The instructions can be placed at the lower part of the page - but I don't mind a sub-page, if they are not only referenced from the navigation, but from the text (near the download links) too. An artist will never search for a way to contribute under the Developer tab, I doubt the same for marketing, webdesign or documentation. In opposition to Sophie and Cor I like the Get involved tab very much. In my eyes this attracts developers too. What should be done is: - show the broad area of possible contribution in more graphical way (I know - that needs some graphics...) - attract developers in the most prominent way on the Get involved page. Even if we need new developers more than any other contributors (I don't really know if this is true, but I believe what I've been told), the starting place for contribution should show our community in a whole. I'm quite sure, that it *is* possible to attract developers with prominent information on the Get involved page in (nearly?) the same way as with a Developer tab. And coming back to the two-level navigation on the top: This would allow to move directly to a Developer sub-category, if we had (sorry, no graphical devices here at work): (mouse over) | HOME | DOWNLOAD | FEATURES | GET HELP | *GET INVOLVED* | ... | DEVELOPMENT | DOCUMENTATION | USER SUPPORT | QA | MARKETING | DONATE | with the second line in lighter green or blue. Best regards Bernhard I would also support the idea of keeping the Get Involved menu title as well as the sub-menu detailing the contributing groups to the project. The obvious listing of them would be in alphabetical order in order to avoid any concerns of showing preference to one group over another from a public view perspective -- the Donate button should show at the end of the group listing. Should we not also list the Localisation group here as well as they form part of the LibreOffice contributing arms of the distro? However we need developers and need to attract them in a very fast way, no more than two clicks from what I've heard. [libreoffice-website] Re: [tdf-discuss] [website][drupal] The Drupal website development update - December 2010
Thanks to this group for all the work. After working on a Drupal site for a F/OSS Fest in the U.S., I appreciate how much work this can be. You can view the progress of the site at www.libreofficeaustralia.org (Note that international pages have not yet been setup) I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has been contributing to the Drupal site development so far, the development of the workflows and behind the scenes systems is fantastic. Since the last update we have: Put together a temporary theme (So people can get a feel for the site) Created a video support section, where authorised people can submit externally hosted tutorial videos Refined some of the forums systems (Still working on the mailing list type functionality) Created a governance system whereby SC members can propose agendas and submit meeting minutes The system automatically displays info on the next upcoming meeting from proposed agendas and you can play minutes recordings without downloading the file Setup a facebook support page where anyone can ask questions. We are currently working on ways for two way communication with FB and other social networks. In the process of creating an interactive FAQ section Creating the concept for the brainstorm system - This is a big undertaking and needs to be planned carefully for integration with other systems Interactive Project Teams now have their own forums and announcement areas (restricted posting to team members only) There are many other facets of work which I will not go into right now, but suffice to say that I am very proud of the work that the Drupal Website Development Team is doing. We will soon have more contact with the project teams to refine and revise the work we have implemented to suit their UI and workflow needs. The main area which we will concentrate on after the new year will be internationalisation and working with the native language teams to adapt our website design to suit their needs and incorporate suggestions from those teams across all languages. Again, a huge thankyou to all of those who have been involved with the development so far. There is still a lot of development to go for the resulting community site ,I encourage you to get more involved (time permitting) now, or after LibreOffice 3.3 has been released into the wild.
