The connect slows down to 1KB/s ? Are you certain about that. That is VERY
slow. Can you provide any data to support this? Which file are you
downloading?

is there a reason to use so many static ip's versus using subdomains or
named based virtual hosting when needed.

I believe there is plenty of ipv4 subnets available. But the restrictions
are getting tighter from IANA and must be justified.

IPV6 is taking off these days with most service providers starting to
deploy the routes for the prefixes. I think we are a year or two out
before this becomes standard in all countries.

Just a FYI

We may want to remove one of the wiki pages
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Forum-planning

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Website/UsersForum

I was the only one who added my name to the original
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Website/UsersForum back in 2011 .

Thanks Marc for the update on posting at the bottom. In regards to the user
support area. I was thinking about more of knowledgebase type page. So for
example I was having some trouble connecting to MySql from Base. Now the
user guide says it can be done but it was lacking some required information
. The guide does says JRE and JDBC is required. We should go a step further
and maybe telling the end user how to obtain the required components from
their environment. Also we should tell then that the class path needs to be
updated under either writer, or calc in order for base to work properly. To
give everyone a idea what I mean you can check out what I have so far at
http://www.openkb.org/connect-to-mysql-database-from-libreoffice-base/

This site is a open knowledgebase I created. My goal was if I run into a
issue then i will post the issue along with the solution so the person can
resolve it without doing the research.

I posted three either articles at
http://www.openkb.org/category/libreoffice/

Well my site covers a broad range of issues and solutions. It would be good
to have something like this on the official website for LibreOffice or a
dedicated wiki page in which I will be happy to help maintain. The users
will need to know how to find this information.

Re: [libreoffice-website] DNS issues

2012-09-11 Thread Mas
Florian,

I can offer direct access to the zone for now. In the future it may be
better to allow you direct access and axfr . The way I have the server
configured at the moment is you will need to create the zone on the master.
The master will then create a secondary record on our secondary via the
datacenter internal network. . I believe this will work great as your
primary or secondary solution.

I am showing you have 3 nameservers setup for libreoffice.org. You can use
our cluster for ns4 and ns5 or as the primary ns1 , ns2 . I can assist with
adding the zones initially and provide access to those who need it.

We are running Bind as the DNS Service under CentOS and Ubuntu .

[libreoffice-website] Wiki page

2012-09-07 Thread Mas
Any particular reason why the wiki is not listed on the page at
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/

I recently resolved a issue with getting Base to connect to Mysql and the
first place I went was the Wiki. Sad to say the Wiki did not have the
information I was looking for or the website. I ended up figuring out my
issue after a few hours of banging my head on the table. I am going to post
the issue and resolution on the wiki within a few days. I notice there is
no reference to the wiki from the official website.

You should not need a certificate for volunteer work. Just mention your

[libreoffice-website] Re: [tdf-discuss] Which version to get?

2012-09-02 Thread Mas
Good find,

Copying the website mailing list on this so someone with access to update
the page

"Hi all

I just noticed that there were some improvements in the download page.
Version 3.6.1 is now the default suggested version (unlike what is
recommended here http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan)

But there are some warnings "But since this is the second version in the 3.6
series, please read the release notes (see right)."

On the release notes page you get "LibreOffice 3.6.1 Final (2012-08-29) This
is the second release from the 3.6 branch of LibreOffice. It contains many
exciting new features, and is the recommended version for early adopters and
power home users. (See this page for LibreOffice 3.5.)"

If you do click on "this page" you arrive at
http://www.libreoffice.org/download-more/

I think this page needs URGENT updating... Not only it says that the
previous (and buggy) version 3.6.0 is "Our latest, feature rich version"
which obviously is not true, but also that version 3.5.5 is the "Previous
version" (although there is a link to version 3.5.6 further down...)

Obviously this is none of my business, but I'm sure TDF can do better than
this at promoting this office suite...
"

askbot would be good if the mailing list was not available.

I would definitely vote for a more standard type of forum.

I would be interested in creating the wiki page for the proposals.

After we decide on a platform we can then discuss the hosting options ..

Sound very simple. But how would you determine if their system uses
rpm or Deb? This information is not transmitted in the request header

Re: [libreoffice-website] web site download install type error

2011-11-11 Thread Mas/_gemini
Hello,

Under Ubuntu 11.04 , you can set the default login on the login screen
to ubuntu classic. This will disable unity for that user. In regards
to the download page, I really do not see a way to determine the
Distro via the browser unless the code accesses the user system. The
distro data is normally included in a file under /etc for example
under centos the distro info is in /etc/redhat-release and under
ubuntu /etc/lsb-release

cat lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10"

The browser only shows the core kernel data build which is Linux 1386
or x64 . Same for windows and Apple.

Re: [libreoffice-website] Re: web help

2011-11-09 Thread Mas/_gemini
Thanks Erich, Christian

The areas I can possibly help with would be Server Maintenance, Site
maintenance(php, html, css) and Bug triage(QA). I am familiar with Graphics
but its not something I really enjoy doing. I have not used silverstrip but
I downloaded it and will be reviewing their code. I mostly code using the
Code Igniter . Helping with documentation could be a option also.

Let me know your thoughts.
