We support cloud images officially since a long time and what the Cloud WG decided was even a step forward; saying that we should support them and Cloud is a thing and...is just a superficial statement. We are working already on a new place where Cloud Base images will live, and we will obviously point to it, the same as pointing from there to atomic. Also, cloud.fp.o will redirect to this in the near future. Please don't use fedorahosted.org anymore for reporting new issues, as stated when you openend this report. [fedora-websites] #415: Fedora Cloud Images are very hard to find
#415: Fedora Cloud Images are very hard to find --+--- Reporter: haypo| Owner: webmaster Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major| Milestone: Component: General | Keywords: Blocked By: | Blocking: --+--- Hi, For an unknown reason, it is very hard to locate cloud images for the "regular Fedora", whereas it is very easy to locate "Atomic" images. But I don't want the container thing with "dnf: command not found". I would like a regular Fedora where I can install anything, trash my OS if I want to, etc. I would like to build a VM to develop on Python and run benchmarks, so I really want to avoid the indirection of a docket container. * To locate Fedora Cloud Image, I tried "fedora cloud image" in Google. * First result: "Cloud images - Fedora" with an URL containing "fedora.org", nice: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_images * Ah, it's a wiki page which only contains a redirection to http://cloud.fedoraproject.org/ * http://cloud.fedoraproject.org/ is automatically redirected to https://getfedora.org/atomic/ * https://getfedora.org/atomic/ is a dead end, there is no link to cloud images for the regular Fedora A colleague (I'm working for Red Hat, hello!) gave me the URL ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/fedora.redhat.com/fedora/linux/releases/25/CloudImages/x86_64/images/. Sadly, OpenStack failed to fetch the QCOW image using the FTP protocol. It worked using HTTP: http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/fedora.redhat.com/fedora/linux/releases/25/CloudImages/x86_64/images /Fedora-Cloud-Base-25-1.3.x86_64.qcow2 But this image doesn't work :-( It fails somewhere in cloud-image. I should report this bug too. On #fedora, I was told to try a cloud image of Fedora 24, I got the link: http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/fedora.redhat.com/fedora/linux/releases/24/CloudImages/x86_64/images/ Then another colleague, gave me a different link for Fedora 25: https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/compose/twoweek/Fedora- Atomic-25-20161216.0/compose/CloudImages/x86_64/images/Fedora-Cloud- Base-25-20161216.0.x86_64.qcow2 This is a mess: why should I ask people for URLs on IRC? :-( Why now showing these images on the official Fedora website? Cloud is a thing nowadays, why not supporting cloud images more officially? The second colleague also pointed me to https://fedorahosted.org/fedora- websites/ticket/406#comment:1 which says that Atomic becomes the "default". IMO it's a bad idea to hide other cloud images, the user should have the choice of how Fedora is installed! Thank you for your nice website and your amazing operating system! [fedora-websites] #406: Cloud Atomic as default and some layout changes for getfedora.org
#406: Cloud Atomic as default and some layout changes for getfedora.org +--- Reporter: robyduck | Owner: webmaster Type: task | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 25 Component: getfedora | Keywords: Blocked By: | Blocking: +--- So, we need to start working on that soon, the Cloud WG will change their default option do Atomic. This means we need to rewrite the brochure page for Cloud and change also the download page(s). I'm not sure if we want to keep Docker, but for now let's assume we will keep it as it is now. Other than that, and working with the Design team (thank you duffy), we will change not only the Logo, but also our index page. These changes will lead to changes also on all the other pages, I'll resume here the major points: * main logos on the index will get some JS, see a fiddle here: http://run.plnkr.co/plunks/X5HMPdUBvJL3Yjoi9ekm/ * The header should be bootstrap reverse if you scroll down. Means, it will have the same background as the jumbotron when you get to the page, and become white (or black, need to test it out) when you scroll down. * Menu points should use anchors to scroll down to the menu point the user wants to go. Arrows should show this function to the end user. Obviously we want to keep it usable, so if you want to scroll down the page you can still do that. A mockup for the Atomic brochure page is here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fedoradesign/nextweb- assets/master/Mockups/Brochure%20Site/brochure-mock-atomic_WIP.png You can read through a post with some feedback here: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/design- t...@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/3F62JSC6ZW5PXC4EUHK5DTUEN55XMCUH/ MairÃn will come up with more mockups, as our thought was to replace also the (horrible? probably yes) banner we show on the bottom when we get out a new release. If all works fine, and as we probably won't have any Atomic images for prerelease, this task should go into production for F25 final release. Keep in mind we need to change/check/update/whatever our scripts and variables. -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/406> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org

#405: Prepare websites for F25 Alpha release ---+--- Reporter: robyduck | Owner: webmaster Type: task | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: ASAP Component: General | Keywords: Blocked By:| Blocking: ---+--- We are starting a new release cycle (Alpha release is planned for august 23th), and we will have some important changes. I'm not sure how the state of art is of the new media downloader, and also if it also should serve prerelease images; in case we need to rewrite all our major download links (see #384) On the other hand we should finalize alt.fedoraproject.org (see https://alt.stg.fedoraproject.org) with subpages for secondary arches. Would be nice to get it done and start with F25 Alpha. The other stuff needs to be tested very well, we had a lot of errors for F24 final release because the paths changed heavily and we couldn't know that. Please refer to the actual final release to see how things changed in the meanwhile. Atomic has become a chapter for itself, we should get soon in touch with cloud WG to see what they are planning and how they want to get out the two week images this time. The most probable scenario is that we won't have atomic images for prerelease again. * Create F25 Alpha branch * update globalvariables to F25 Alpha * Add Alpha banner * Check all Download links and paths * Add CHECKSUM files to static/checksums and verify that the paths are correct. * Add EC2 AMI IDs for Alpha. Our script is working also for prerelease, but let's add them also manually to globalvar.py, just to be sure. * Check and eventually fix checksum paths in all verify pages * Update Alpha Image sizes and pre_cloud_composedate in ./build.d/globalvar.py. Verify they are right in Cloud images and Docker image. * Update the new POT files and push them to Zanata -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/405> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org

Our translations (I'm from brazilian localization team) only appears if our browsers are setup with "português do Brasil" in browsers configuration. e.g. clicking on "português" on the "Change Language" option, the URL changes to: https://spins.fedoraproject.org/pt/soas/ and there's no way to change to brazilian portugueses or "português brasileiro" like this: https://spins.fedoraproject.org/pt_BR/soas/ can you add the "português do Brasil" option to the "Change language"? thank you -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/400> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org

#397: Write a blurb for labs/spins which failed the final compose ---+--- Reporter: robyduck | Owner: webmaster Type: task | Status: new Priority: critical | Milestone: ASAP Component: General | Keywords: easyfix Blocked By:| Blocking: ---+--- After a discussion with releng and FPL we want to provide as many images as possible for end users, even if they fail the final compose. In fact, sometimes a spin/lab fails the compose for many reasons, and we need to drop them from the official images. While we cannot change this, we want to provide some unofficial images, like nightlies. From the last releng meeting: #agreed The least amount of 1 off work is to ship some tested nightlies in /pub/alt/unoffical/release/24/ just the isos, signed checksums and some manifest files that list all the srpms to keep legal happy #info keeping the images seperate and named differently will ensure that the metadata and what is in PDC about the compose and release is correct So, the last nightlies I see for those 2 spins are: SoaS from the 14th (15th and 16th failed): http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=14484555 Design (also from the 14th): http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=14484528 My idea is to make a blurb like we have for prerelease images in the download page and link to the nightlies. Nothing special, a templte would be cool, so we can activate it if needed. For SoaS, Design and Jam we will need it soon, release day is tomorrow, we should try to make it work ASAP. -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/397> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org

[fedora-websites] #391: Prepare websites for F24 release
#391: Prepare websites for F24 release +--- Reporter: robyduck | Owner: webmaster Type: task | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 24 Component: General| Keywords: Blocked By: 371, 369, 362 | Blocking: +--- F23 branch has already been created and variables are updated to F24 final. We have some tasks, a few are bigger than usual, so if you want to help just ask or pass by in #fedora-websites ;) Main tasks are: * Create the Astronomy page in labs.fpo #371 * Fedora Server: do not advertise 32-bit x86 media #369 * Link to Release Announcement on getfedora.org #362 * New website for secondary arches - see issue https://pagure.io/fedora- websites/issue/12 These tasks are critical, and we should start with them ASAP. Then, we need to do the other stuff: * redirect prerelease pages to $Product/download/index.html * verify no prerelease banners are visible * add CHECKSUMS, change them also in our checksum script and verify they are working from the DL splash * remove Beta checksums * check ALL links (DL, DOCS, footer) * add image sizes for getfedora.org, labs.fp.o, arm.fp.o and spins.fp.o to our globalvar.py * verify if all spins and labs are build for GOLD RC * add AMI IDs manually. We need to change our AMI script again, as we are going to pull all AMIs again. Drop prerelease lines in the script to make it work right. * at some point freeze translations (15-20 days before release date) and build getfedora in staging * Rebuild Atomic images, or better pull two weekly images again for F24 and correct websites an scripts to make it work again. We had no Atomic images during prerelease, check if they are built as usual or if there are changes. * Verify image names, pungi 4 is working slightly different, also check i386 vs. i686 again -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/391> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org http://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org

Getfedora has a specific target and a specific role within our websites, but it's not a link collector for any webpage we have (just think about how many apps we have). Furthermore it is a user targeted website and has the main function to deliver our editions to the end users. That said, let me reply to the two links: * We have a discussion on pagure about whatcanidoforfedora, and I think this is a website which we can mention on getfedora.org because it tells end users how to get involved. So this is useful, but we are still finding out where the best place would be. https://pagure.io/fedora-websites/issue/4 * Easyfix tickets are not for end users, they are too specific to stay on getfedora.org. We should not put them there, we should not put them on any website at all, but we need (and we actually DO) to redirect contributors to easyfix tickets from the repo on pagure, or from our wiki page.[[br]] More generally speaking, if we want to add the easyfix page somewhere, then the link should go to whatcanidoforfedora. Let's discuss whatcanidoforfedora on pagure to keep the discussion where it is. It would be useful to have these sites added to [https://getfedora.org/ getfedora.org]. = Analysis = Having these links to those pages on getfedora.org can direct potential new contributors to interactive resources that can help jumpstart them into contributing somewhere in the project. = Implementation = This would probably belong best in the footer, under "Join". I think wcidff.org should be placed at the top as it's one of the best resources to point newcomers to and deserves extra highlighting. Easyfix can be placed in whatever order makes sense to the designer. -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-websites/ticket/390> fedora-websites <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites> Fedora Website Team's Trac instance -- websites mailing list websites@lists.fedoraproject.org http://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/websites@lists.fedoraproject.org
