Super big thanks to TK and to all who contribute to weewx!Thank you!

Upgraded from 3.8.0 to 3.9.1 last night. Everything is running smoothly.
The new seasons skin is sweet! :)

[weewx-user] Replaced VantagePro2 console with new console, more errors

2018-01-11 Thread Doug Bo
I upgraded from an old console & firmware (1.90) to a new console &
firmware (3.80). Getting some errors.

Jan 11 22:11:48 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: ip-read error: timed out
Jan 11 22:11:57 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: ip-read error: timed out
Jan 11 22:12:07 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: Unable to wake up
console
Jan 11 22:12:07 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: LOOP try #2; error:
Unable to wake up Vantage console
Jan 11 22:12:08 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: No received from
console
Jan 11 22:12:08 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: LOOP try #3; error: No
 received from Vantage console
Jan 11 22:12:17 raspberrypi1 weewx[12267]: vantage: ip-read error: timed out

Is anyone using a VP2 console with 3.80 firmware and weewx 3.80? The
versions match which is sort of odd. Davis doesn't list a console firmware
of 3.80 which is also odd.

Thanks,
Doug B.

Re: [weewx-user] Some possible helps for anyone running an old Davis Vantage Pro2 console

2018-01-13 Thread Doug Bo
Update:

I upgraded my console to the latest and greatest firmware. Still seeing
network issues so the problem isn't the console firmware. I'm using an
Ethernet to WiFi bridge between logger and network. I think that is my
issue. Going to make some network changes to see if I can isolate my
timeout problem.

Firmware updaters for console & WL IP:

My console has old hardware so I was stuck at 1.90
I ended up purchasing a new console which has version 3.80 which you can't
download from the web. I'm going to ask Davis about this oddity.

Will do. Today's chat: I was told 3.80 has "minor improvements", if
current version of console firmware is working properly then don't worry
about new version.

I'll see if I can get in touch with an engineer tomorrow.

Re: [weewx-user] Some possible helps for anyone running an old Davis Vantage Pro2 console

2018-01-16 Thread Doug Bo
I agree, the 1.90 firmware is quite good. Also very true, don't fix
something that isn't broke.

My deal is that I run multiple consoles with multiple ISS at multiple
locations with repeaters, remote temp sensors and soil sensors. I want
everything to be interchangeable so that if something breaks or dies or
gets weird I can swap out components quickly to keep the weather data
flowing. Thus I want matching firmware to minimize surprises down the
road. I'm a farmer so my weather stations have a direct impact on my
wallet. I guess I'm sort of fussy about my setup. LOL

I'll do a bit more digging on this to satisfy my own curiosity.

Thanks for the input,
Doug B.

[weewx-user] Best way to add WebDAV to weewx?

2017-12-26 Thread Doug Bo
Uploading files to a remote web server using FTP is not working due to
multiple levels of NAT on my local network (wireless ISP) & my web server
provider setup. My web server provider prefers WebDAV over FTP when
uploading files from a device buried behind multiple levels of NAT.

Currently I'm using cadaver in a cron job to upload the images & files
generated by the StandardReport.

It appears that Python has webdavclient which should do the same job as
cadaver.

I would like to remove the cron job and use either cadaver or webdavclient
in place of FTP to upload the files & images created by StandardReport.
How should I proceed? Feature request? Change code?

I'm running weewx 3.8.0 on Raspberry Pi 3 using Vantage Pro2 hardware.

Thanks,
Doug B.

My WeatherlinkIP is running current firmware but console seems to be very

I had to tweak the conf file to get it to run more than 24 hours. The

Agreed, I realize my post is a bit off topic but if WU continues to be less

Thanks for the reply, perhaps a new thread needs to be started by someone

Good luck with your research & fix. I'm a big WU fan and am sad they are

[weewx-user] Running on RPi for over a year, now some engine shutdowns

2019-07-16 Thread Doug Bo
Been running on RPi for over a year and now getting some weird errors.
Perhaps my SD card is having issues? Maybe my router, Weatherlink IP or
ISP? It is a remote site on a farm so not always easy to debug. I have
run a UPS since day one so I do have clean power. My Davis console &
Weatherlink IP are about 4 years old but have current firmware.

Where should I start?

Thanks,
Doug B.

2019-07-16 Thread Doug Bo
OK, thanks. Not sure what an SD card issue looks like so had to ask. :)
I have rebooted everything except for the console. I have the IP
connection to the console on both of my stations and it seems to be rock
solid once everything is setup.

Will give it a try.

Thanks,
Doug B.

[weewx-user] Re: Weewx and Weather Underground

2022-08-05 Thread Doug Bo
WU has been quite odd with one of my stations lately. Slow updates, I lost
my data quality sticker which happens every once in a while. We've had
some extreme heat events so I assume once the weather returns to "normal"
that will help. I also have slow upload speeds which I'm guessing impacts
WU. I was just watching WU and although WU is receiving my realtime
updates, they didn't update the data table for 15 minutes.

I think it is a WU problem for certain stations.

[weewx-user] Re: Weewx and Weather Underground

2022-08-05 Thread Doug Bo
Good point about the system clock. Mine is spot on which leads me to
believe when weather is extreme the QC algorithm does not like my data. My
data matches my neighbors so I'm not sure what WU dislikes about my data.
Be nice if WU would tell me what they don't like about my data.

One observation that I've made is this: my neighbor had his wind direction
180 degrees off for weeks after a fresh install and WU continued to accept
his data as valid & give preference to his station on the map. I just had
to laugh.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Weewx and Weather Underground

2022-08-07 Thread Doug Bo
Another data point, my station is missing some location info and barometric
pressure on the Android app. I have verified my upload data on the WU
station web page and everything looks good. One thing WU "lost" is my
hardware type. I have reset the station hardware info so we'll see what
happens. I have also opened a ticket with them on this issue.
FWIW, a few years back WU moved some PWS stations to a new server and
messed up my station. I wonder if they have performed some data house
cleaning and mucked up a few things?

I'll update the thread when I have additional info.

Thanks all for the input.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Weewx and Weather Underground

2022-08-07 Thread Doug Bo
My guess on Rapid Fire is that if your neighbors are doing it then the WU
app "downgrades" your station. Back 10-15 years ago, I uploaded at 5 min
intervals & had no neighbors uploading to WU. As more neighbors started
uploading and switching to Rapid Fire I was sort of left behind. My data
showed up on the web but the app viewed my station as a 3rd class citizen.
Much has changed at WU over the years with the web and app so just my
observations. YMMV :)

Play with the config until you get the desired results. LOL

[weewx-user] Future support for EnviroMonitor IP Gateway (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) #6805

Will weewx support the EnviroMonitor IP Gateway in the future? I want to
expand my soil moisture monitoring and the only way I can see to do it with
Davis products is to make the jump to the EnviroMonitor hardware. :(

Thanks,

cloud costs. I assume the EnviroMonitor protocol is quite different from
the VP2 since the Davis site states that VP2 wireless communications will
not work with the EnviroMonitor hardware.

It would be great if my beloved weewx could support the EM hardware.
However, given the initial cost of the gateway, nodes & sensors I'm
guessing it is too expensive for most weather watchers. I think I can
justify the additional expense for the farm given the expanded node network
& sensor array. However the cloud expenses & Davis storing my data are
sort of a bummer.

2020-10-12 Thread Doug Bo
Ha ha, if I head down this path I could let you borrow one to do some
investigation. ;)

One other little nugget. The EM IP Gateway will receive data from a VP2
wireless ISS.

Anyone else having problems with Weather Underground again?

  Wunderground-RF: Failed to publish record

I sent WU a message but this is the same station that is missing the
pressure reading on their app but pressure appears just fine on the web.
No response on that issue. Sigh, remember when WU just worked as
intended? LOL

2022-10-05 Thread Doug Bo
Surprise, surprise I got a reply!

Thank you for reaching out. I checked the information we have for your
station, and it looks like it went down when we turned off the old
infrastructure. So the station is hanging on to something it ought not.

The best thing to do is to reboot/reset/power cycle everything from the
instrument itself to the internet, including your router if you can. That
should insure a fresh connection to us.

Please let me know if you don’t see data again on the PWS dashboard within
about 20-30 minutes after finishing the reset.

Maybe version 3.9.1 has the old URL?

Which is odd, my other 3.9.1 station is running just fine.

Also I switched from the old password method to the ID key. No change,
still broken.

[weewx-user] WU App and missing barometric pressure

2022-10-06 Thread Doug Bo
Confirmed with WU support, finally.
Certain stations are missing the barometric pressure in the Weather
Underground app thus preventing you from adding the station to your
favorites. This is a bug in the WU app.
The pressure appears on the web and of course shows up properly on weewx
generated pages. :)

Big thanks to Tom & the team for wonderful software.

Re: [weewx-user] WUnderground not publishing again (Oct 4, 2022)

2022-10-10 Thread Doug Bo
My only thoughts are to turn on debugging and/or upgrade weewx.

Funny, I was just thinking I need a script to monitor weewx remote
installs. Thanks!
