[weewx-user] Re: Sun Shine Hours

2020-07-27 Thread Phil Owers
Thanks Gary
That worked ok to a temp field but then I realised that I had added a new
field to the weewx.sdb.
I have 4 conf files working on the same rasp pi and the sun console has its
own database.
Just wondered how thats done.
Thanks
Phil

[weewx-user] Re: Sun Shine Hours

2020-07-25 Thread Phil Owers
Hi Gary
Thanks for your quick response.
You have confirmed the best way is to populate a new field to get the graph
Im looking for.
Im happy with adding a new field to the database
This new field would have the 0.01 * 36 but im not sure how to do that
Is that done in the vantage.py file, and if so how please, or somewhere else
Phil

[weewx-user] Sun Shine Hours

2020-07-25 Thread Phil Owers
Hi All

Have been using the Instromet Stand Alone Sun Duration sensor which if
connected to a Davis Vantage Pro2 system needs to go to a spare rain socket
in the ISS.
Each 0.01 is equivalent to 36 seconds of sunshine and I have converted that
to hours and minutes on my web page.
The next stage was to produce a graph per hour using the rain field in the
database and to adjust that reading.either with another field in the
database or when the plot/graph was produced .
I did have a look in the vantage.py and came across loop_packet['rain'] =
delta.
So im asking is this the place to do this or am I totally in the wrong
place to achieve a field with with rain * 36 in.
Thanks in Advance

[weewx-user] Re: Forecast Xtide

2020-06-04 Thread Phil Owers
Hi Mathew
Sorry I need your help again
Im trying to display at least 3 months of tide time data

Jun  4 15:32:12 raspberrypi weewx[9290] INFO user.forecast: MainThread:
XTide: forecast version 3.4.0b1
Jun  4 15:32:12 raspberrypi weewx[9290] INFO user.forecast: MainThread:
XTide: interval=86400 max_age=2419200 location='Cromer, England'
duration=864
The above log has the data in the database and have confirmed by looking at
the XTide first and last entry.
By using
#set $tides = $forecast.xtides
#if len($tides) > 0
  #for $tide in $tides
$tide.event_ts $tide.hilo $tide.offset
  #end for
I can only get 12 days displayed so I decided to see what this displayed
#set $periods = $forecast.weather_periods('XTide', max_events=100)
  #for $period in $periods
  $period.event_ts $period.hilo
  #end for
It worked but only up to 54 events and refused to go any further
So what am I doing wrong.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Took a while for the penny to drop but now realise they go in the

Still cant display more than 12 days with the previous method but using the
following method

#set $periods = $forecast.weather_periods('XTide', max_events=50)
  #for $period in $periods
  $period.event_ts $period.hilo
  #end for

I can get anything I wont displayed.

[weewx-user] Re: Forecast Xtide

2020-06-02 Thread Phil Owers
Thanks Mathew
By changing the interval and deleting the database I can now change whats
displayed
Interval = 86400 displays jun3 to jun4
Interval = 864000 gives a display of Jun3rd to Jun14
However changing the interval to anything higher say 20 days (1728000)
makes no difference and I did delete the database twice .
When you start weewx the log shows
Xtide interval=1728000 max_age=2419200 duration=3456000
Xtide thread getting tides for 3/6/2020 to 13/7/2020
Im changing the parameters interval and max_age is also there but I cant
find duration so Im wondering where that is.
weewx is ver 4.1

Thanks for the quick reply
Ive checked that Im using
#set $tides = $forecast.xtides
#if len($tides) > 0
  #for $tide in $tides
$tide.event_ts $tide.hilo $tide.offset
  #end for
and the interval and duration are set to the default
Ive check that in the forecast.sdb has tide times that go to June28
The page gets updated every 10 mins and the first tide is June 2 16:18 but
the last time is June 14th
When the first time is reached that goes and a new date gets added to the
end
.I cant get it to go any further. than 12 days

In forecast_strip.inc line 564   is
#set $thisdate = $period.event_ts.format('%Y.%m.%d') which is OK
If I change it to
  #set $thisdate = $period.event_ts.format('%m.%d')  is OK
If I change it to
  #set $thisdate = $period.event_ts.format('%b.%d') it puts the new month
first so doesn't work.
So Im assuming I have to change the date appearance in probably the
weewx.conf

Hi Guys
Just wondered if anybody else has seen this, It may well have started after
the we had a time change in March
as I seem to remember something similar at the end of Mar and also April
but didn't have the time to investigate.
It appears that when a new month is displayed it is displayed before the
last days of the old month
Have a look at http://sheringhamweather.ddns.net/forecast/3dayforecast.html
it will explain it better
Once in the new month all is OK , until the end of the month.
You will see that I have added a couple of things to the display so its
probably something I have caused and I have tried on different browsers

[weewx-user] Re: Database Problem

2020-05-28 Thread Phil Owers
Sorry Im a little confused here.
If as an example you tried to add something new into weewx.sdb by using
import schemas.wview
schema_extended = schemas.wview.schema + [('whateveryoulikehere', 'REAL')]
in the extension.py file
with
 manager = weewx.manager.DaySummaryManager
I can see people falling into a bit of a black hole as looking back in the
logs
May 27 20:10:16 raspberrypi weewx[1464] ERROR weewx.cheetahgenerator:
File "_home_weewx_skins_Standard_NOAA_NOAA__Y_txt_tmpl.py", line

May 27 20:10:16 raspberrypi weewx[1464] ERROR weewx.cheetahgenerator:

'month.wind.count.raw'
and it didn't like $day.wind.max from $day.wind.gustdir.ordinal_compass at
$day.wind.maxtime
So how can you add to weewx.sdb without it changing the structure and
causing these errors
Phil

[weewx-user] Database Problem

2020-05-27 Thread Phil Owers
Have just tried to add avg_distance and lightning_strikes to the weewx.sdb.
schema by adding
import schemas.wview
schema_extended = schemas.wview.schema + [('avg_distance',
'REAL'),('lightning_strikes', 'REAL')]
in the extension.py file
and in the weewx.conf
 changed schema = schemas.wview_extended.schema
 to schema = user.extensions.schema_extended
then
sudo ./bin/wee_database weewx.conf --reconfigure

The new weewx.sdb was produced and so I then did --rebuild-daily.
Restarted weewx and started getting a failure with $day.wind.max and also
the following was produced in the log with
May 27 19:20:11 raspberrypi weewx[529] INFO user.rtgd: rtgdthread:
data = self.calculate(cached_packet)
May 27 19:20:11 raspberrypi weewx[529] INFO user.rtgd: rtgdthread:
File "/home/weewx/bin/user/rtgd.py", line 1926, in calculate
May 27 19:20:11 raspberrypi weewx[529] INFO user.rtgd: rtgdthread:
wgust_tm_vt = ValueTuple(self.day_stats['wind'].max,
May 27 19:20:11 raspberrypi weewx[529] INFO user.rtgd: rtgdthread:
KeyError: 'wind'

Had a look at the old and new weew.sdb and in the database file structure
the tables had gone from 114 Table Schema in the original to 54 Table
Schema after I had done the above change with daily_archive_wind missing
with lots of others.
Reverted back to the original weewx.sdb and it was Ok again.
Im using weewx Ver 4.1
Just wondered if there was a different way of doing the above since version
4
Thanks for any help
Phil

2020-05-25 Thread Phil Owers
Thanks Gary
To keep every thing in its own sub-directory I did add HTML_ROOT =
public_html/highchartaverages in weewx.conf
Cant remember if it was like that before or if I added it.
And thanks again for all your great work, and all others of course

[weewx-user] RTGD

2020-05-14 Thread Phil Owers
Im trying to set up the HTTP POST. The gauge-data.txt is being produced as
the web site already uses that which gets updated every 10 mins.
Ive set a gaugedata sub-directory up with post_gauge-data.php in it, but Im
not getting a gauge-data.txt file generated.
In weewx.conf the remote_server_url
= http://www.sheringhamweathercentre.uk/gaugedata/post_gauge-data.php but
its not generating a gauge-data.txt file
In the log I get
DATA MAY HAVE BEEN POSTED SUCCESFULLY RESPONCE MESSAGE WAS NOT RECEIVED BUT
A VALID CODE WAS RECEIVED.
I was wondering if the PHP 7.4 installed on my web hosting may be the
problem, it can be changed but im afraid im guessing here
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Phil

Just wondered what the preferred method was if you bring old data

I believe the new weewx.sdb has new fields so Im assuming wee_import is to
be used instead of just coping and replacing.
Thanks for some great software and all the time many of you put in

[weewx-user] Re: Weewx version 4

2020-05-01 Thread Phil Owers
Yes the snippet is from the home/weewx/weewx.conf file that Im using
When it first failed the 52.9444 and 1.2110 where in the weewx.conf file
and not sure where they came from
So I changed them to 52.944 and 1.211 in the weewx.conf file which is what
they should be
Stopped and started weewx and it still failed with the old figures of
52.9444 and 1.2110

I have since changed the figures in the weewx.conf file to blanks and also
to other lat and long figures and have restarted weewx each time.
It doesn't matter what I enter in the weewx.conf file its not reflected in
the start up log which always has 52.9444 and 1.2110
I have even rebooted the pi on several occasions but the start up log still
has 52.9444 and 1.2110

I had a similar problem but as the file is a zip file I tried

2020-04-11 Thread Phil Owers
Hi John
Ive just downloaded your new weewx-forecast-master and downloaded to my
Downloads directory (weewx-forecast-master.gz)
Then sudo ./bin/wee_extension --install
/home/pi/Downloads/weewx-forecast-master.gz (must be in home/weewx
directory and it works for other install packages)
It doesn't install and I get 'readerror: file could not be opened
successfully
I cant remember how I did this last time and to make sure I install
correctly could you confirm the correct way of installing so to eliminate
any mistakes I could make.

Download failures are every time, hence why the forecast.sdb is empty.
Im using a Python 3 only machine with your forecast.py file from your link
you gave me the other day. The weewx version is V4.0.0.b18 and always fails.
My main machine runs weewx Version 3.9.2 and downloads from the met office
and uses forecast 3.3.2 forecast.py that was modified to use mozilla5.0 to
work and works fine.
About a couple of months ago UKMO started to fail and via email they
suggested to use mozilla5.0. There were others around the UK who also had
problems it wasn't just me.
It failed HTTP Error 403: Forbidden which is the same as your forecast.py
hence why I think it is the same problem.
 I cant remember the person name, its on this forum somewhere, who changed
his code form
try:
response = urllib2.urlopen(u)
return response.read()
to
try:
req = urllib2.Request(u)
req.add_header('User-Agent', 'Mozilla/5.0')

response = urllib2.urlopen(req)
return response.read()
This changed worked and we have been using it ever since.

2020-04-09 Thread Phil Owers
Hi John
Just need to tweek the forecast.py so it can download from the UK Met
Office.
They changed a few weeks ago to only excepting 'User-Agent', 'Mozilla/5.0

In the forecast.py you sent me it had
response = six.moves.urllib.request.urlopen(u)
return response.read().decode('utf-8')

My previous forecast.py I used

req = urllib2.Request(u)
req.add_header('User-Agent', 'Mozilla/5.0')
response = urllib2.urlopen(req)
return response.read()
But I cant get that to work any chance you could help out please. Sorry
to be a pain
Phil

[weewx-user] Re: weewx beta version 4.0.0b18

2020-04-07 Thread Phil Owers
' while searching for
'day.wind.count.raw'

I restored the origanal weewx.sdb (without appTemp and windrun and and it
works OK
I then tried update the database a second time and got the same results and
the above log.
As it worked with the pre change weewx.sdb and not to the new database Im
assuming (don't like doing that) the problem may well be the new database

[weewx-user] Re: weewx beta version 4.0.0b18

2020-04-06 Thread Phil Owers
This is interesting
I have a pi running 3.9.2 (Python2) which runs OK with rainrate
(Steelgauges 2.7.4) ( yes all lower case)

But on a pi running v4.0.0.b18 (Python3) with Steelgauges 2.7.4 rainrate
generates an error in the log which is corrected if its changed to rainRate.

2020-04-06 Thread Phil Owers
Gary
Couldn't understand where rainrate came from so Just wee_extension --
install steelseries-2.7.4tar.gz onto a spare pi and rainrate and not
rainRate is in the ss/skin.conf file.
Any chance somebody else could try just to make sure.

That worked and generated a gauge-data.txt file and it showed 0.2mm of

The log still has UnknownType rainrate when it try's to produce images

[weewx-user] Re: weewx beta version 4.0.0b18

2020-04-05 Thread Phil Owers
If I take out the rainrate in ss/skin.conf that gets rid of the rainrate
error in the log
If I ## all the lines with rain in them in gauge.date.txt file in SS then
all the other errors in the log then go and the gauge.data.txt is formed
correctly(all be it without the rain info)

Hi Guys

First of all I hope everybody is staying safe and well

Before I go into to many details should weewx v4.0.0b18 work on its own.

Followed the Installation using setup.py, loaded all the prerequisites for
Debian 10(Buster)
Installed using python3 ./setup.py build  , sudo python3 ./setup.py install

Entered the name, vantage (6), serial , metric, ttyusb0 etc.

Then started weewx using sudo ./bin/weewx
It downloaded all the data from my test console (This works fine plug into
another rasp pi v 3.9.2) then failed continuously overnight with no graphs
being generated.
The weewx.sdb was generated.

partially worked the 2nd time before failing, 3rd time went a bit further.
Not sure if I tried it 4 or 5 times but it did download everthing in the
end. Im using weewx 3.9.2. Phil

[weewx-user] Re: Cant download Uk Met Office forecast

2020-03-01 Thread Phil Owers
The UK Met Office has now raised an issue with there datapoint services but
did suggest to try

Could you try the following : change the User-Agent to
'Mozilla/5.0'. It could be that the user agent of 'python/urllib/2.5' is
the issue. This worked for some users.

Not sure what that means

When I started with raspberry pi it came with pre-loaded software one of
which was noobs. In there I found an SD card copier app. I use that ,
amongst other things, to back up the entire system plus weewx. I have put
the backup SD card into another pi and it works fine as it does in the pi
it was copied from. Ive never seen this mentioned on this forum but its an
easy way to back up valuable data. Just a thought Phil

Hi Gary
Yep confirmed the files were where they should be so as you mentioned it
got me thinking about permissions and it maybe useful for others.
To cut a long story short my web server only hosts windows type web sites
which need a web.config file to give it clues as to what to do with certain
things.
So I added an empty web.config and added the following (which I admit I got

Hi All

I had trouble with the average extension back end of last year and thanks
to Gary he put me right. I'm changing over to a new server and I'm having
trouble again

The old is on http://www.sheringhamweather.org.uk/averages.html and works.

The new looks to be set up the same but the graph is empty. Ive look
through VIEW SOURCE on edge or View Page Source on Firefox and admittedly
my understanding of it is limited but it looks similar as the files look
the same.
You can look at this at http://www.sheringhamukweather.org.uk/averages.html

The problem is the same what ever browser I use and I have deleted the
browsing history as Ive had problems with that especially if I change an
icon on the forecast.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks Phil

Ive managed to save all data to the forecast.sdb and using .inc files it
all works fine
So moved on the using the forecast variables method, using the example

#set $periods = $forecast.weather_periods('UKMO', max_events=1)
#for $period in $periods
$period.event_ts $forecast.label('Weather', $period.clouds)
#end for
I get the following print out

27-Apr-2019 10:00 OT

Viewing the source code in a browser I get the same thing, so it would
appear that its reading the database OK.
The OT is the cloud cover in the dbase so it seems its not putting the .png
Is there something else to add
Thanks  Phil

I printed out the forecast.py code and half came to that conclusion but
then I came across on my Page 62 a section marked UK MET OFFICE 5day/3hour
forecast which stated the full 30 Weather Types which is missing so
wondered why they were missing but then mentioned in the code.

Using UK Met office I don't get any forecast icons in the display.
Looking under the met office 3hr definitions they send out a weather type
an example is below
Weather types
ValueDescription
NA Not available
0 Clear night
1 Sunny dayThe description goes up to a VALUE of 30

Looking in the forecast.sdb I don't see any of the above, the database has
a clouds field name but it has a NULL value.
So my question is does anybody else download from UKMO and have the same
problem or is it just me
Thanks Phil

If you

just get a days short summary with no forecast and looking in the
forecast.sdb I view what I receive

Thanks.
The rpi/davis console which I de_powered worked perfectly with --dump, i didnt
try -clear--memory on this set up so thanks for that as it only missed 2
timestamps.
The other one (only rebooted) failed clear--memory also failed --dump which i
have a screen jpg off. It seemed to fail on the same time stamp at 0410 this
morning. I can download the failure but not till tommorrow when i can explore
more. Again to both thanks for your time and also the url with notes regarding

[weewx-user] No updates since 2am start of British Summer Time

2019-03-31 Thread Phil Owers
Hi All
Have 2 vantage pro,s each working to its own raspberry and both stopped
downloading from the davis console at 2am this morning which is when the clocks
moved forward 1hr in the UK. Both davis consoles had the correct new time on
there screen. On one of them I de-powered the davis console (batteries out as
well) and the raspberry and then powered them both up, as yet still no new
downloads. On the 2nd one I just re-booted, that didnt work either. Weewx is
downloading to the web pages as the times are changing so it would appear that
the davis console may be the problem. Using minicom from both rpi's they both
return TEST ok. Incidentally when the clocks went back last October they were
both ok. Im working at strange times at the moment so replying make take a
while but any clues would be very helpfull. Weewx version is still 3.8.2
Thanks for your time Phil

Re: [weewx-user] Database error

2018-10-31 Thread Phil Owers
I downloaded DB Browser for SQLITE windows edition on to my laptop. Stopped
weeewx throughout the process. Took a copy weewx file.sdb ,opened it up in
the above software and made the changes and then WRITE then to the
database. Took the new copy back to weeewx ,start weeewx and wait till it
adds all the new records. Once that's done I used wee_database --drop-daily
and rebuild-daily so the new data is seen, then delete the NOAA reports
that were affected so weeewx can create the new NOAA reports. Also take a
copy of the original weewx.sdb just in case. Have used this method several
times but be carefully with adding new data and don't leave blanks as weewx
didn't like it.

The nearest place I can get tide times using XTides is 8 minutes difference

As this field stores the time in epoch Ive been trying to just take 480

Using weewx v 3.8.2
