We consider [[SL]] as one particular case of [[SL|SW]] where ‘SL=SW’.
For your example, we apply the option (c)
in [[India]] - [[இந்தியா|இந்தியாவில்]]

[Bug 28147] New: MediaWiki:Centralauth-login-global - rewording suggested to make it more concrete.

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28147

   Summary: MediaWiki:Centralauth-login-global - rewording
suggested to make it more concrete.
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: i18n
  Severity: minor

AssignedTo: vasi...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net

I suggest a slight rewording of
MediaWiki:Centralauth-login-global
from: 'Also log me in to other projects of {{int:Centralauth-groupname}}'
to: 'Also log me in to the other wikis of {{int:Centralauth-groupname}}'

One reason is that you log in to a wiki - a project is somewhat different
from a wiki, it is bigger and more abstract.

The reason for the insertion of the is that you are logged in to all
wikis.

Not all the wikis (especially those outside WMF, however Wikiversities and
fishbowls/privates within WMF as well) have the policy no signatures in main
ns. Thus the hardcoded absence of the signature button is rather bad. It
should be configurable somehow, while the default should be the presence and
not the absence.

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #12 from Purodha Blissenbach bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net

Why is PLURAL needed to explain what the list does? Shouldn't that be
independent of what happens to be there now?

Because 1 file(s) copied. is considered bad style, which is why we got
PLURAL.

You can of course likely find wordings that wind around the use of PLURAL in
many or maybe even all languages. I bet, some are clumsy, unnecessarily long,
and considered completely ridiculous, since they are not made in a way, people
usually speak or think.

We _are_ not talking about an absteract list of unknown content and length
here. The list is shown on the same page. In my language, Colognian, people
burst out in laughter, when you introduce a list of one item with a length
agnostic sentence -- even though this sentence was perfect, when talking about
a list which is not visible, but e.g. presented on another page.

I also do not understand programmatical reasons for avoiding PLURAL. What keeps
one from computing all constituents first, and once they are known, create all
outputs with all data at hand in a second step? Lazyness? Imho it is usually
better, to use a more structured programming style of easily identifyable
separate steps.

Earlier today, when the page [[en:User:Chzz]] was loaded by IP users, it would
display the error box corresponding to the 'view-pool-error' and
 'pool-timeout'
messages. The page could still be viewed by logged-in users. This persisted
 for
a while; finally I blanked the page and restored it, and that seemed to fix
 the
 problem.

This sounds like the poolcounter error messages were Squid-cached, which should
never, ever, happen.

It's not hard to use PLURAL, $pager already can have numRows() called before
output. FlaggedRevs is littered with PLURAL use - it's not a problem anywhere.

This lists contains the page where... is awkward in English and seems to
presuppose that there can only be one page (oddly, mentioning the actual number
is less weird in that sense). I've never found it laughable for special pages
to say the pages and then have 1 item.

The count can be passed in, and just used for other languages with different
conventions, though. What about the legend message in the form fieldset?

German subtitles and put them on top of or below the video (the latter option
even creates some extra black space below the video), but no matter what I try
I don't get any subtitles.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.15 on Ubuntu. The selected video format seems to be Ogg

[Bug 28151] New: JS error when opening subtitle editor

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28151

Summary: JS error when opening subtitle editor
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: TimedMediaHandler
AssignedTo: d...@ucsc.edu
ReportedBy: roan.katt...@gmail.com

* Go to http://prototype.wikimedia.org/timedmedia/Main_Page
* Mouseover the coffee commercial video, click CC (closed captioning) - Choose
text - Upload subtitles
* A dialog box titled Loading subtitle error appears
* The spinner in this dialog box spins forever

In the console:
mw.TimedTextEdit is not a constructor
[Break On This Error] (768 out of range 305)
Main_Page (line 768)

The line number information doesn't get any less useless in debug mode, and
neither 'break on this error' nor 'break on all errors' in Firebug finds the
error.

However, this is slightly worrying:
 mw.TimedTextEdit
undefined

[Bug 28144] Pool timeouts and pool overload (PoolCounter) on enwiki

--- Comment #3 from Tim Starling tstarl...@wikimedia.org 2011-03-21 11:31:57

(In reply to comment #2)
This sounds like the poolcounter error messages were Squid-cached, which
 should
 never, ever, happen.

I suspect that the reason it happened for IP users is because they have default
parser options. There would have been no squid cache, and error messages
weren't cached, so every request for that page tried to do a parse. That's the
situation it was in when I got to see it, except that it had a stale cache
entry that could be returned. If there was no stale cache, it would have
returned an error message.

That is very mysterious. I doubt it would be memcached related since it looks
like it is starting before memcached is initialised, in the
$wgRequest-getAllHeaders() call in Setup.php.

How often does it happen? Have you tried restarting Apache to clear the APC
cache?

This was the second time it happens. It stopped after I restarted lighttpd

Last time it spammed those notices once or twice per minute for about an hour

Interwikis actually can be inserted using templates, and it is actually done,

The extension still insert the username in thread titles for user talk pages.
This is problematic because when a user is renamed the threads keep the old
username instead of being renamed to the new name.

Besides, if the name of user namespace changes (as happened recently on
Portuguese wikis, from Usuário to Utilizador), the threads of a user talk
page will be spreaded in 3 diferent places, like
  [[Special:PrefixIndex/Thread:Old Namepace:Old user name]]
and
  [[Special:PrefixIndex/Thread:New Namepace:Old user name]]
and
  [[Special:PrefixIndex/Thread:New Namepace:New user name]]

or

  [[Special:PrefixIndex/Thread:Old Namepace:Old user name]]

  [[Special:PrefixIndex/Thread:Old Namepace:New user name]]
and

Fixed. This was caused by two of the options for the math preference having the
same description:

'mw_math_simple' = 'જો સરળ હોય તો  HTML અનયથા PNG',
'mw_math_html'   = 'જો સરળ હોય તો  HTML અનયથા PNG',

I edited [[gu:MediaWiki:mw_math_simple]] to replace PNG with png so the options
would be different. I'll add a warning in the message documentation that these
options MUST be different, otherwise things break.

I created a filter (#67) on it.wiki with 'disallow' option enabled. Filter
works on a specific page preventing all edits from a certain IPs' range on that
page (source code: article_prefixedtext == Wikipedia:Pagina delle prove
ip_in_range(user_name, 151.40.128.0/17) ).

Its run time is less than 0.85 ms using less than 5 conditions, no actions
reached the condition limit but often the filter allow edits which (verifying
them in batch mode) match perfectily its conditions.

I'm not sure but I think that, in the past, I saw similar problems with other
filters, but I'm sure about all these issues with #67.

The Mark thread as read button has an undo button. Like it, we should have
an undo button for Mark all as read as well. It is pretty easy to
accidentally
click the wrong buttons since Mark thread as read for the topmost thread and
Mark all as read nearly touch each other, and time consuming JavaScripts move
screen contents around for quite a while without signalling when done, so one
may assume that this phase was over before it really is, and thus involuntarily
click the place which will later be occupied by the wrong button.

There is also a implicitGroupby() attribute used by the database classes: see

[Bug 28156] New: Automatically sort interwiki links in the sidebar

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28156

Summary: Automatically sort interwiki links in the sidebar
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: accessibility, i18n
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: headbom...@hotmail.com

Currently, if a page has the following interwiki links

[[fr:Quark]]
[[ru:Кварк]]
[[it:Quark (particella)]]

they get displayed as

Français
Русский
Italiano

in the sidebar.

This means that individual wikis need to maintain the ordering on individual
articles, through bots, manual editing, etc... which consume a considerable
amount of both bot-hours and man-hours, and which in turn generates edits with
a relatively bad cost/value ratio. This disproportionately takes a toll on the
smaller wikis since they have smaller editing communities, some of them which
might not have the technical people required to make and maintain these bots.

A better approach would be to have a per-wiki master list of interwiki-link
ordering, meaning that (on the English Wikipedia)

[[fr:Quark]]
[[ru:Кварк]]
[[it:Quark (particella)]]

Would be displayed as

Français
Italiano
Русский

(or however the master-list tells the software to order them), regardless of
their order within the article. This would guarantee a consistent displaying of
interwiki links, making the interface more user-friendly to foreign editors
across all wikis.

These are some integration issues with the resource loader. Note the present
resource loader debug mode is pretty broken for dynamically loaded resources
per elements of bug 27023 ( we are evaluating included scripts instead of
appending them to the dom and waiting for them to be parsed )

But yes it appears the timed text upload was not ported to the new resource
loader. Will fix this and the other subtitle user interface flows issues
identified in r28150

[Bug 27023] once dom ready mediawiki.loader.using issues callback before modules are ready

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27023

--- Comment #11 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-03-21 18:03:04 UTC ---
Trevor, I had an idea for improved debug mode post dom ready without timeout
hacks waiting for parsing and without synchronous XHR eval script execution.

We should include all the scripts by normal document append and instead of
waiting for the inconsistently fired onload onreadystatechange without the
files being full parsed, We do normal script appends and after each script we
append a separate resource loader callback script include. With IE we set the
defer attribute to true for the special callback script and all the other
~sane~ browsers will execute in the order appended to the dom and issue the
onload callback once the script is actually parsed.

This way we retain line numbers for syntax errors and direct reference to raw
resources without doing too much of a hack for IE.

[Bug 19161] Auto account creation creates privacy vulnerability

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19161

--- Comment #20 from Philippe Verdy verd...@wanadoo.fr 2011-03-21 18:18:18
UTC ---
Yes it is still an issue, because we can still want to have global login,
without necesarily autosubscribe to various privacy settings (notably email
notifications) just because we randomly visit a new wiki.
The global login is there to help autoconnect when we will really need to
interact with a wiki, so that we can just reserve the login name. But this
autologin feature does not mean that we have ever seen and checked those
privacy options on the per-wiki settings page.
I'd still like to have the global login enabled, but all wikis set by default
with the maximum privacy, instead of the default permissive ones.
Ideally, if the global login is enabled, the automatic account creation should
immediately create a link to our home wiki on the created account (this means
creating a home page automatically with a basic content, including the list of
languages that he advertizes on his home wiki, and posting a top message in the
user discussion page, stating that the user can be contacted on his home wiki),
and all email settings disabled until we explicitly check these settings on
specific wikis.
And there is still the lack of possibility for changing in one single screen
any given privacy option on all wikis, or to know on which wiki it has been
enabled/disabled (there should exist a link displaying which wiki has an option
enabled or disabled or different from the default global setting).
When you have an account enabled with more than 200 wikis, just because you
have just visited a few pages found when navigating from our home wiki, it
becomes extremely difficult to know when, and how the newly discovered wikis
have had a new privacy option implemented and which ones need to be updated.
Ideally, all privacy settings should not just display enabled or disabled
options, but also a default/shared option indicating that the option will be
inherited from the global settings. What this means is that the global
settings should act as if it was another wiki, but it could also mean the
settings from an existing wiki (our home wiki that we should also be allowed
to change within one of those for which we already have an account, preferably
a wiki where our account is already verified).

--- Comment #1 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-03-21 18:39:04 UTC ---
It appears this is related to the expire on api requests ( set to smax to 5 min
) The video now does include the de subs. [1] Is there a good way to purge
cache for a given api call? or do we need a specialized entry point for
subtitles that can have its squid cache purged in the same way we handle pages?
Correct me if I am wrong, but we can't reply on the parser cache that the api
will use for outputting the transformed wikitext for the every video displayed?
Maybe we shorten the smax to 1 min? We can't be hacky and request the actual
page and strip the interface since this sometimes has to run cross domain for
instant commons / all other projects pulling video from commons.

Actually this cache logic is sort of falling right now anyway since we use the
normal jquery global unique callback on the api request so we probably are not
hitting the squid cache / using the smax params anyway.

I've changed to im_shrink in r84471. The problem however is that due to
rounding, the results may be inaccurate, i.e. images of 179px wide instead of
180px. The result is then that the browser upsizes the image again.

Other options would be im_affine, but that uses a bilinear interpolation, which
if I understand correctly is causing poor results similar to im_resize_linear.

--- Comment #21 from Mark A. Hershberger m...@everybody.org 2011-03-21
19:03:02 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #20)
Ideally, if the global login is enabled, the automatic account creation should
immediately create a link to our home wiki on the created account (this means
creating a home page automatically with a basic content, including the list of
languages that he advertizes on his home wiki, and posting a top message in
 the
user discussion page, stating that the user can be contacted on his home
 wiki),
and all email settings disabled until we explicitly check these settings on
 specific wikis.

Adding Bug #14950 since what you are asking for here would require global
preferences.

One reason this happens:

'badtoken' errors -- if session times out in between uploading and describing.

Solution -- wrap the final metadata POST in a postWithApiEditToken call as we
do with initial upload. This will retry the post with a fresh token if it
encounters a badtoken error.

[Bug 28162] New: Installer does not respect initial DBport declaration

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Installer does not respect initial DBport declaration
   Product: MediaWiki

When installing using Postgres, a change to the database port field is not
respected, and always tries the default, 5432. A reload or retry does pick up
the new port.

Postgres does not allow root to run Postgres, and this a username of 'root' is
extraordinarily unlikely to be seen. Almost all distros create a 'postgres'
user as the default superuser, so that should be used instead.

[Bug 28164] New: Table Markup adds extra span and breaks XHTML validation

2011-03-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28164

Summary: Table Markup adds extra span and breaks XHTML
validation
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: wikimedia-deployment
  Platform: All
   URL: http://kn.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%B2%B5%E0
%B2%BF%E0%B2%95%E0%B2%BF%E0%B2%AA%E0%B3%80%E0%B2%A1%E0
%B2%BF%E0%B2%AF:%E0%B2%AA%E0%B3%8D%E0%B2%B0%E0%B2%AF%E
0%B3%8B%E0%B2%97_%E0%B2%B6%E0%B2%BE%E0%B2%B2%E0%B3%86
oldid=197048
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mghar...@gmail.com

Consider the markup:

{|
| h1ಅ/h1
|-
| ಆ
|-
|}

This is converted to HTML as:

table
tbodytr
td
h1span id=.E0.B2.85 class=mw-headlineಅ/span/h1
/td
/tr
tr
tdಆ/td
/tr
/tbody/table

Look at the span tag, which is not present in the actual wiki markup. The
problem is that it is taking the Unicode code points of the text ಅ (Kannada
letter A) in UTF-8 format, and is converting to value of the id attribute.
This is breaking the XHTML validation of the texts. Why this extra span tag
is introduced by MediaWiki? This is observed only for the heading tags h1 to
h6, and not for any other tag.

Thanks Regards,
Harish
