Shouldn't that be independent of what happens to be there now? Because 1 file(s) copied. is considered bad style, which is why we got PLURAL. You can of course likely find wordings that wind around the use of PLURAL in many or maybe even all languages. I bet, some are clumsy, unnecessarily long, and considered completely ridiculous, since they are not made in a way, people usually speak or think. We _are_ not talking about an absteract list of unknown content and length here. The list is shown on the same page. In my language, Colognian, people burst out in laughter, when you introduce a list of one item with a length agnostic sentence -- even though this sentence was perfect, when talking about a list which is not visible, but e.g. presented on another page. I also do not understand programmatical reasons for avoiding PLURAL. What keeps one from computing all constituents first, and once they are known, create all outputs with all data at hand in a second step? Lazyness? Imho it is usually better, to use a more structured programming style of easily identifyable separate steps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. FlaggedRevs is littered with PLURAL use - it's not a problem anywhere. This lists contains the page where... is awkward in English and seems to presuppose that there can only be one page (oddly, mentioning the actual number is less weird in that sense). [Bug 28156] New: Automatically sort interwiki links in the sidebar
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28156 Summary: Automatically sort interwiki links in the sidebar Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Keywords: accessibility, i18n Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Internationalization AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: headbom...@hotmail.com Currently, if a page has the following interwiki links [[fr:Quark]] [[ru:Кварк]] [[it:Quark (particella)]] they get displayed as Français Русский Italiano in the sidebar. This means that individual wikis need to maintain the ordering on individual articles, through bots, manual editing, etc... which consume a considerable amount of both bot-hours and man-hours, and which in turn generates edits with a relatively bad cost/value ratio. This disproportionately takes a toll on the smaller wikis since they have smaller editing communities, some of them which might not have the technical people required to make and maintain these bots. A better approach would be to have a per-wiki master list of interwiki-link ordering, meaning that (on the English Wikipedia) [[fr:Quark]] [[ru:Кварк]] [[it:Quark (particella)]] Would be displayed as Français Italiano Русский (or however the master-list tells the software to order them), regardless of their order within the article. This would guarantee a consistent displaying of interwiki links, making the interface more user-friendly to foreign editors across all wikis. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 27023] once dom ready mediawiki.loader.using issues callback before modules are ready
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27023 --- Comment #11 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-03-21 18:03:04 UTC --- Trevor, I had an idea for improved debug mode post dom ready without timeout hacks waiting for parsing and without synchronous XHR eval script execution. We should include all the scripts by normal document append and instead of waiting for the inconsistently fired onload onreadystatechange without the files being full parsed, We do normal script appends and after each script we append a separate resource loader callback script include. With IE we set the defer attribute to true for the special callback script and all the other ~sane~ browsers will execute in the order appended to the dom and issue the onload callback once the script is actually parsed. This way we retain line numbers for syntax errors and direct reference to raw resources without doing too much of a hack for IE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 19161] Auto account creation creates privacy vulnerability
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19161 --- Comment #20 from Philippe Verdy verd...@wanadoo.fr 2011-03-21 18:18:18 UTC --- Yes it is still an issue, because we can still want to have global login, without necesarily autosubscribe to various privacy settings (notably email notifications) just because we randomly visit a new wiki. The global login is there to help autoconnect when we will really need to interact with a wiki, so that we can just reserve the login name. But this autologin feature does not mean that we have ever seen and checked those privacy options on the per-wiki settings page. I'd still like to have the global login enabled, but all wikis set by default with the maximum privacy, instead of the default permissive ones. Ideally, if the global login is enabled, the automatic account creation should immediately create a link to our home wiki on the created account (this means creating a home page automatically with a basic content, including the list of languages that he advertizes on his home wiki, and posting a top message in the user discussion page, stating that the user can be contacted on his home wiki), and all email settings disabled until we explicitly check these settings on specific wikis. And there is still the lack of possibility for changing in one single screen any given privacy option on all wikis, or to know on which wiki it has been enabled/disabled (there should exist a link displaying which wiki has an option enabled or disabled or different from the default global setting). When you have an account enabled with more than 200 wikis, just because you have just visited a few pages found when navigating from our home wiki, it becomes extremely difficult to know when, and how the newly discovered wikis have had a new privacy option implemented and which ones need to be updated. Ideally, all privacy settings should not just display enabled or disabled options, but also a default/shared option indicating that the option will be inherited from the global settings. What this means is that the global settings should act as if it was another wiki, but it could also mean the settings from an existing wiki (our home wiki that we should also be allowed to change within one of those for which we already have an account, preferably a wiki where our account is already verified). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28150 --- Comment #1 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-03-21 18:39:04 UTC --- It appears this is related to the expire on api requests ( set to smax to 5 min ) The video now does include the de subs. [1] Is there a good way to purge cache for a given api call? or do we need a specialized entry point for subtitles that can have its squid cache purged in the same way we handle pages? Correct me if I am wrong, but we can't reply on the parser cache that the api will use for outputting the transformed wikitext for the every video displayed? Maybe we shorten the smax to 1 min? We can't be hacky and request the actual page and strip the interface since this sometimes has to run cross domain for instant commons / all other projects pulling video from commons. Actually this cache logic is sort of falling right now anyway since we use the normal jquery global unique callback on the api request so we probably are not hitting the squid cache / using the smax params anyway. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25990 --- Comment #6 from Bryan Tong Minh bryan.tongm...@gmail.com 2011-03-21 18:47:53 UTC --- I've changed to im_shrink in r84471. The problem however is that due to rounding, the results may be inaccurate, i.e. images of 179px wide instead of 180px. The result is then that the browser upsizes the image again.
