<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L16>, L3870

For some context, it appeared on multiple browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge)
and also when log out.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T336192: Merge more than 2 entities on Wikidata

2023-05-08 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON created this task.
VIGNERON added projects: Wikidata, Wikidata Lexicographical data.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Right now, Special:MergeItems
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:MergeItems> and Special:MergeLexemes
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:MergeLexemes> only allows to merge to
entities.

Sometimes, especially for Lexemes, we need to merge more than two entities.

It can be done in multiple steps, merge two then merge the result with the
third one. But if it's done in the wrong order (not the two bigger id with the
smallest id), it results in a broken double redirect (and you need to unmerge
and remerge). It can be messy and seems unnecessary complicated. Being able to
do the merge all at once would be easier.

For instance, could it be integrated in the `[AUTO_LANGUAGE]` of the `SERVICE

it would be useful and interresting to also integrate `mul`, and it will make

  Eg.
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Astronomy#coordinate_locations_other_than_Earth
 for a recent discussion
and all the discussions that lead to
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/lunar_coordinates for
the "diagreement" (mainly
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/planetary_coordinates
? IIRC there was others ; diagreement is maybe a strong word but at least, it's
seems that there is no clear consensus on how to deal with coordinates exactly).

@Pigsonthewing : Not sure why you talk about the storage, yes we can and do
store. And yes, there is many ways to edit the globe, many bot and scripts. The
question is not about storage but about editing in the UI.

And yes, I'm in the small group of astronomers (not really active there but
still) and I would love this functionnality but there is also a lot of other
basic functionnalities I would love, some wanted by more people.

2021-09-19 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON added a comment.

Well, I agree this is « desired » but this is complicated and not only
technical.

First it is only useful for a small number of people (mostly astronomers),
for most people is could actually be confusing/annoying to allow to select a
globe (and may result in a big number of errors). That's not an excuse but it
explains why this is not a priority.
And worse, within this small community of astronomers, there is some
disagreement on how to deal with globes (see the links above and the lengthy
talks on wiki). This should be solved explicitely before any technical work.

Generator can have multiple parameters, language is an obvious one here.
Random additional ideas: for forms with or without recording, a limit (like
other generator), the lexical category, a choice between the main lemma and
forms. More suggestions are welcome.

  Yes, thanks a lot @Poslovitch !

For the `Create lexeme when trio language + form + pos does not exist on

lexemes 2. we don't have the pos (part of speech = lexical category) on
LinguaLibre, no? @Pamputt if there is no objection, I will strike that.
A better solution would be to generate a todo list somewhere of recording not
having a corresponding form in a lexeme (a list that then humans could use to
carefuly create lexeme).

@Yug create lexemes would be //very// nice but quite difficult. "language +
form" is not enough, at least the lexical category is mandatory to create a
Lexeme.
Other data are needed to to determine if the lexeme exists and is the same
(for instance for cases like "fils" - threads L10371 - and "fils" - son L15917
- or "tour" L2330 and "tour" L2331).
How could we solve these problems?

2021-01-24 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON added a comment.

Yes, the problem is still here and open.

To maybe help go further and solve this problem, it appear for all properties
(and not only P518 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P518>) whenever a
property is used after the wd: prefix (which is not meant to be done usually,
this is a special case, it's legit but unusual).

@Manu1400: the display of Q18055686 is not totally unexpected here, this item
indeed has for alias P518 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P518>. Is `Display
a tooltip of property P518` really the expected tooltip?
As I said, this is a strange case and I'm not sure how to best deal with it.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T255245: Add tooltip for Lexemes on WDQS

2020-06-12 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON created this task.
VIGNERON added projects: Wikidata Query UI, Wikidata.
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Hi,

On the Wikidata Query Service (at query.wikidata.org) there is useful
tooltips but apparently not for lexeme.

When you type this simple bogus query:

SELECT * WHERE {
  wd:Q1 .
  wd:L1 .
}

If you hover the value Q1 you will see the tooltip `universe (Q1) totality
consisting of space, time, matter and energy` (which is the label, the id and
the description).
BUT if you hover the value L1 there is no tooltip. I expect something like
`ama/𒂼 (L1) Sumerian, noun` (which is the lemmas, the id, the language and the
lexical category).

Note: this example is in English selected, but happens no matter which
language is selected.

The only supported format is JSON verbose (what is expected by the SPARQL

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T229393: Interface of the Wikidata Query Service

2019-07-31 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON created this task.
VIGNERON added a project: Wikidata-Query-Service.
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper.
Restricted Application added a project: Wikidata.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Hi,

I have two slight improvement suggestions for the interface of the Wikidata
Query Service (based on both my experience when I do SPARQL workshops):

  1. When there is a basic syntax error in the SPARQL code, would it be
possible to add a warning sign on the left of line where there is an error
(like there is on https://data.bnf.fr/current/sparql.html , for instance if you
forgot the "?" before a variable name there is bright red exclamation mark next
to the line with an infotip). It feels more intuitive than the current
underlining and highlighting (which is often after the problem).

  2. The left menu bar feel could maybe be improved/removed/reworked. The
"example" icon is a duplicate already on the top bar and the "short URL"
(without results) feel strange here as the other short URL (with results) are
in the bottom bar (with a different icon :/ ), they should be together or at
least closer. Plus, from what I've seen, the other icons are more or less never
used. So: Would it be possible to only have two bars (top and bottom for
instance) instead of three (top, left, bottom)?

Hi, I just tested this new dashboard. The visualisations are great, but I'm
more a number cruncher myself.

I've been to the "Tables" tab (gain great idea) but something seems a bit off
with the numbers.
I tried for P380 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P380> (Mérimée id) which
give right now these results:

  | archINFORM project ID (P5383 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P5383>) | 5
|
  | VIAF ID (P214) | 3 |
  | BnF ID (P268 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P268>)| 1 |
  | DOI (P356 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P356>) | 1 |
  | IMSLP ID (P839 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P839>) | 1 |
  |

But a simple query shows that the number of items sharing Mérimée id and VIAF
id is much more higher (725 as of now, http://tinyurl.com/y55baqbd ).
Am I missing something here ?

For the record, last December after

 I added celestial coordinates on M31 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/M31>:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2469#P625 (2 months later nobody seems to
complain)

So, I'm not sure we need a new datatype, but even with the existing coord
datatype the interface definitely need some work (as well as Geohack), at the
very least the possibility to select the globe and formatting.

Indeed, it's a bit strange, without two brackets, it could be

pizza (Italian: Italian dish)

or

pizza (Italian / Italian dish)

or

pizza (Italian dish)Italian

But for me the lemma should stay first, that's the most valuable information (which in most cultures is put first).
And the separator should be crystal clear, it shouldn't be a character that could appear in the gloss.

The double brackets is overkill, the idea was to avoid confusion, anything else making the distinction clear is fine by me.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T207392EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Nikki, KaMan, WMDE-leszek, Lydia_Pintscher, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Nandana, Mringgaard, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, _jensen, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___

I think the most important is the lemma, so I would put it first. But I'm not sure on how not mix the gloss and the language:

Mutter (German, female parent)

Or maybe better:

Mutter (female parent) (German)

The second one may seems a bit overkill but it would be clearer in the case where the gloss itself contains the name of a language:

pizza (Italian dish) (Italian)
Schwyzerdütsch (Alemannic dialect) (Alemannic)

Compare to:

pizza (Italian, Italian dish)
Schwyzerdütsch (Alemannic, Alemannic dialect)

Hi,

A small story to show why this is important (at least to me) and should be fixed quickly (in my opinion).

Special:WhatLinksHere can be used to do simple constraint checking.
For instance, in French Q6581072 and Q1775415 both have the label "féminin" and obvisouly, in lexeme, only the second on should be used. So https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AWhatLinksHere&target=Q6581072&namespace=146 could be used to spot errors to correct (especially as there is no other tool available for the moment). Sadly, right now, this page doesn't display the lexemes linking to the item.
I took a simple example, but there is much more homonymous label that this special page can help to find.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T195302EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Liuxinyu970226, KaMan, Esc3300, JAnD, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE, Aklapper, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___

The unit seems to me the worst possible example: the suggestion gives you everything, not just units (this is very confusing for the new editors, we frequently have question about that), the result is often a mess and wikidatians spend a lot of times to build and solve the constraints. 2018-06-01 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON added a comment.

As explained in my prevuious message, I agree we need to specify at least language and script. For the rest (country, orthography reform, ...), I think the best way to store this kind of information is to use property in the lexeme itself. The advantages of the property is it is really flexible and so we can decide a psoteriori what kind of information we want to store in one lexeme.

Indeed, property is a good idea but how would you deal with Alptraum / Albtraum?
And why not doing both, the current tagging and properties? (same for Lexical Category and Grammatical features, the need for both as already been discussed)

Let us take the example of the "de-CH-1996" code, am I supposed to use this code only for word in Swiss German followinf the 1996 reform?

Obviously yes

If the same lexeme is used both in Swiss German and in "standard German", should I use this code.

Obviously not.

If a Swiss German lexeme has not been modified by the 1996 reform, should I use "de-CH-1996", "de-CH" or both.

de-CH (or another more precise tag), both is impossible as a lemma can only have one language (if there is two lang, it's not one lemma, it's two lemmata).

All are valid and I think it will be really difficult to managed.

Yes all codes are valid but they don't mean the same thing.

Where is the difficulty here? More exactly: how is it less difficult than properties? (see all the wars on some WD items, on Wiktionaries or among the scholars, no reason that this will be magically solved on Wikidata, either by the codes or by properties)TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T195740EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: Pamputt, Liuxinyu970226, Micru, VIGNERON, Lydia_Pintscher, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Aklapper, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___

Ideally we should have : label, language code and lexical category. For instance « gwez (br, noun, L62) » for Lexeme:L62 (or any other presentation and order as long as the informations are here).
This is important because the same lemma often exist in multiple languages and even inside one language, the same lemma can have different category. For instance, "best" in English could be an adjective, an adverb, a noun, and a verb, so at least 4 lexemes, if I understand correctly).

This is the usual error to avoid two item to have the exact same pair label-description *except* that here, the description are different and the error shouldn't occurs. Maybe the system has been changed to not only detect exact same pair (in that case, the error message should say "similar" and not "same") or maybe there is an other bug. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T151186: Add monolingual language code fr-ca

2016-11-21 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON added a comment.
Sound globally like a good idea but we should go further and deeper.

I feel the request and the example is not wide enough, true « épinette de Norvège » is more common in Canada but this species have dozen of name in french, fr-ca label only solve one name.
Why only fr-ca, why not fr-be, fr-ch, fr-us, fr-qc, etc. ? Right now, we only have frc and frp (because they are far - and lucky - enough to have an ISO 639 code), I think we should look at this globally instead of doing one by one request.

PS: out of curiosity, how far is fr-ca to fr (I don't have numbers but it seems much closer than en-ca to en, and it's more a question of grammar than vocabulary and Wikidata don't care much for grammar ; there is no case like colour/color or organise/organize).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T151186EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Esc3300, Lydia_Pintscher, GerardM, Fralambert, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

TASK DESCRIPTIONHi,

When using Wikidata Query Service, sometime I make too big requests (for instance give me all P31 = Q5) and my computer go freezing.
Couldn't there be a way to stop a request when you see that it will go in timeout before the computeur freeze ? Maybe something like a « stop » button ?TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T148495EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: Aklapper, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, VIGNERON, mschwarzer, Avner, debt, Gehel, D3r1ck01, Jonas, FloNight, Xmlizer, Izno, jkroll, Smalyshev, Wikidata-bugs, Jdouglas, aude, Deskana, Manybubbles, Mbch331___

This is a very very very bad idea.
The goal is to improve the formatting, not to worsen it (François Ier is correct, although not perfect ; François Iᵉʳ is not correct).

I just removed all the IPA superscript codepoint whereever I found them.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T139573EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Moyogo, Bugreporter, Ltrlg, Metamorforme42, Aklapper, Zppix, Oliv0, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T76229: [Story] create demo infoboxes

2016-06-08 Thread VIGNERON
VIGNERON added a comment.

Could be useful, here's the list of infoboxes using Wikidata on the French
Wikipédia : Modèle d'infobox utilisant Wikidata
<https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat%C3%A9gorie:Mod%C3%A8le_d%27infobox_utilisant_Wikidata>
 (53 right now)

  - Most could be parameter-less template,
  - (I didn't check but they should) all use Wikidata only if there isn't a
local value,
  - All have some check categories.

Could you add the two other special ISO 639-2 codes : "mul" (when a string
