[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T336192: Merge more than 2 entities on Wikidata
VIGNERON created this task. VIGNERON added projects: Wikidata, Wikidata Lexicographical data. TASK DESCRIPTION Right now, Special:MergeItems <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:MergeItems> and Special:MergeLexemes <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:MergeLexemes> only allows to merge to entities. Sometimes, especially for Lexemes, we need to merge more than two entities. It can be done in multiple steps, merge two then merge the result with the third one. But if it's done in the wrong order (not the two bigger id with the smallest id), it results in a broken double redirect (and you need to unmerge and remerge). It can be messy and seems unnecessary complicated. Being able to do the merge all at once would be easier. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T56097: [Story] allow to select globe in the UI
VIGNERON added a comment. Well, I agree this is « desired » but this is complicated and not only technical. First it is only useful for a small number of people (mostly astronomers), for most people is could actually be confusing/annoying to allow to select a globe (and may result in a big number of errors). That's not an excuse but it explains why this is not a priority. And worse, within this small community of astronomers, there is some disagreement on how to deal with globes (see the links above and the lengthy talks on wiki). This should be solved explicitely before any technical work. Is `Display a tooltip of property P518` really the expected tooltip? As I said, this is a strange case and I'm not sure how to best deal with it. Ping @Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE ? When you type this simple bogus query: SELECT * WHERE { wd:Q1 . wd:L1 . } If you hover the value Q1 you will see the tooltip `universe (Q1) totality consisting of space, time, matter and energy` (which is the label, the id and the description). BUT if you hover the value L1 there is no tooltip. I expect something like `ama/𒂼 (L1) Sumerian, noun` (which is the lemmas, the id, the language and the lexical category). VIGNERON created this task. VIGNERON added a project: Wikidata-Query-Service. Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper. Restricted Application added a project: Wikidata. TASK DESCRIPTION Hi, I have two slight improvement suggestions for the interface of the Wikidata Query Service (based on both my experience when I do SPARQL workshops): 1. When there is a basic syntax error in the SPARQL code, would it be possible to add a warning sign on the left of line where there is an error (like there is on https://data.bnf.fr/current/sparql.html , for instance if you forgot the "?" before a variable name there is bright red exclamation mark next to the line with an infotip). It feels more intuitive than the current underlining and highlighting (which is often after the problem). 2. The left menu bar feel could maybe be improved/removed/reworked. The "example" icon is a duplicate already on the top bar and the "short URL" (without results) feel strange here as the other short URL (with results) are in the bottom bar (with a different icon :/ ), they should be together or at least closer. Plus, from what I've seen, the other icons are more or less never used. So: Would it be possible to only have two bars (top and bottom for instance) instead of three (top, left, bottom)? VIGNERON added a comment. Indeed, it's a bit strange, without two brackets, it could be pizza (Italian: Italian dish) or pizza (Italian / Italian dish) or pizza (Italian dish)Italian But for me the lemma should stay first, that's the most valuable information (which in most cultures is put first). And the separator should be crystal clear, it shouldn't be a character that could appear in the gloss. The double brackets is overkill, the idea was to avoid confusion, anything else making the distinction clear is fine by me.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T207392EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Nikki, KaMan, WMDE-leszek, Lydia_Pintscher, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Nandana, Mringgaard, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, _jensen, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

VIGNERON added a comment. I think the most important is the lemma, so I would put it first. But I'm not sure on how not mix the gloss and the language: Mutter (German, female parent) Or maybe better: Mutter (female parent) (German) The second one may seems a bit overkill but it would be clearer in the case where the gloss itself contains the name of a language: pizza (Italian dish) (Italian) Schwyzerdütsch (Alemannic dialect) (Alemannic) Compare to: pizza (Italian, Italian dish) Schwyzerdütsch (Alemannic, Alemannic dialect) TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T207392EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Nikki, KaMan, WMDE-leszek, Lydia_Pintscher, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Nandana, Mringgaard, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, _jensen, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

VIGNERON added a comment. Hi, A small story to show why this is important (at least to me) and should be fixed quickly (in my opinion). Special:WhatLinksHere can be used to do simple constraint checking. For instance, in French Q6581072 and Q1775415 both have the label "féminin" and obvisouly, in lexeme, only the second on should be used. So https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AWhatLinksHere&target=Q6581072&namespace=146 could be used to spot errors to correct (especially as there is no other tool available for the moment). Sadly, right now, this page doesn't display the lexemes linking to the item. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T195740: Decide on a way forward for acceptable languages for lemmas and representations
VIGNERON added a comment. As explained in my prevuious message, I agree we need to specify at least language and script. For the rest (country, orthography reform, ...), I think the best way to store this kind of information is to use property in the lexeme itself. The advantages of the property is it is really flexible and so we can decide a psoteriori what kind of information we want to store in one lexeme. Indeed, property is a good idea but how would you deal with Alptraum / Albtraum? And why not doing both, the current tagging and properties? (same for Lexical Category and Grammatical features, the need for both as already been discussed) Let us take the example of the "de-CH-1996" code, am I supposed to use this code only for word in Swiss German followinf the 1996 reform? Obviously yes If the same lexeme is used both in Swiss German and in "standard German", should I use this code. Obviously not. If a Swiss German lexeme has not been modified by the 1996 reform, should I use "de-CH-1996", "de-CH" or both. de-CH (or another more precise tag), both is impossible as a lemma can only have one language (if there is two lang, it's not one lemma, it's two lemmata). All are valid and I think it will be really difficult to managed. Yes all codes are valid but they don't mean the same thing. Where is the difficulty here? More exactly: how is it less difficult than properties? (see all the wars on some WD items, on Wiktionaries or among the scholars, no reason that this will be magically solved on Wikidata, either by the codes or by properties)TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T195740EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: Pamputt, Liuxinyu970226, Micru, VIGNERON, Lydia_Pintscher, Lea_Lacroix_WMDE, Aklapper, Lahi, Gq86, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, LawExplorer, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs

For instance « gwez (br, noun, L62) » for Lexeme:L62 (or any other presentation and order as long as the informations are here). This is important because the same lemma often exist in multiple languages and even inside one language, the same lemma can have different category. For instance, "best" in English could be an adjective, an adverb, a noun, and a verb, so at least 4 lexemes, if I understand correctly). I feel the request and the example is not wide enough, true « épinette de Norvège » is more common in Canada but this species have dozen of name in french, fr-ca label only solve one name. Why only fr-ca, why not fr-be, fr-ch, fr-us, fr-qc, etc. ? Right now, we only have frc and frp (because they are far - and lucky - enough to have an ISO 639 code), I think we should look at this globally instead of doing one by one request. PS: out of curiosity, how far is fr-ca to fr (I don't have numbers but it seems much closer than en-ca to en, and it's more a question of grammar than vocabulary and Wikidata don't care much for grammar ; there is no case like colour/color or organise/organize).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T151186EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: VIGNERONCc: VIGNERON, Esc3300, Lydia_Pintscher, GerardM, Fralambert, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___ Wikidata-bugs mailing list Wikidata-bugs@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikidata-bugs
