The merchandise may be different for any country, for instance mugs are
used in some countries but not appreciated in others.

Anyway I think that there should be a standardization in the graphic and
in the models.

It may be opportune to have some common examples like a library to be
used for any country who would produce merchandise locally.

But this will be very hard to promise, there will always be a few (or more)
sites not showing the banner. So a promise on this is hard to give to the

For Spain you listed many files by Joancreus, most of his contributions
were flickr uploads (supposedly on time on flickr).
You also listed User:Wiki-Bot uploads. Those are definitely ok.

IMHO it is ok to keep it for images which *intended* to participate in
the contest, even if they missed the deadline for a few hours.
"This image was uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments 2011."

I'll try to make a list with our monument images.

Nice list,
For the Netherlands:
I have deleted one picture uploaded prior to 1 september
There are 53 pictures uploaded between 22:00 and 24:00 (I guess this is UTC, so
this was past 24:00 local time)
The other ca 50 pictures where flickr imports. So I leave it up to you
(Lodewijk?) what you want to count, with or without the 53 pictures.
Everything uploaded after 24:00 commons time (so I guess 2:00 local) was
allready deleted by me back in 2011.
I also checked Luxembourg and Belgium
Luxembourg has 1 picture between 22:00 and 24:00 commons time
In Belgium I have deleted 1 pictures far before of the date.
Belgium: 92 pictures where between 22:00 and 24:00 commons time (this seems to
be so in many countries, we've to decide what time we want to take as a line, I
don't know whether all organisers will react)
Belgium: There are 39 pictures far behind (ranging from 2 days to 4 months)
behind september, I've discussed with Romaine (one of the organisers there) and
deleted the tags on those.
So we've to decide what to do with all those between 22:00 and 24:00 (differs
per country).

IMHO the problem with last year jury was bad propotions of
non-photographers vs photographers - so it was really hard to persuade
the jury to take into account basic technical requirements such as
minimum resolution or realism of colors and geometry of photographed
objects. My suggestion is to compose the jury from as many as possible
professional photographers. I think WLM is so global this year that we
could not have problems to ask really top world photographers. I think
we can learn from World Press Photo jury composition:

IMHO, the most reasonable thing to do is to find separate producers for
every continent.
(i.e. T-shirt for North America are produce in North America, T-shirt

Hi,

as communicated before (not sure before or after you joined), Wikimedia
Italia has apparently good contacts with a Tshirt producer who can produce
cheap good quality shirts. WMIT seems to be willing to handle distribution.
But like discussed before, T-shirts are too heavy and costly (customs) to
transport outside Europe.

It would be great if we could come up with smaller items that are still
interesting.

Hey - I've done a quick run of this (including switching Romania):

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_-_participant_countries.svg

It should be relatively trivial to edit this (by hand - don't use an

either list by ISO 3166 2-letter country code. It's based off

[Wiki Loves Monuments] colloaboration with international media partners

2012-06-11 Thread Barbara Fischer
dear all,

as we have mentioned before we are looking for international media partners
to promote the contest beyond our community boundaries. How would you feel
about the idea, that these partners could present themselves through their
logo (interactive / or not due to fiscal implications) on your respective
national site? We do have a request running with National Geographic at the
moment, to give an example of the kind of media partners we think of.

We are also planning to have an animated banner on the international WLM
site on the left, where all our partners will appear in a loop of switching
logos. We could offer you to integrate this feature to your site.

Please let us know your opinion.

Barbara, WLM international team

[Wiki Loves Monuments] nominations for the international jury

2012-06-11 Thread Barbara Fischer

as the the contest is preceding we would like to ask all of You for
recommendations for the nomination of members of the international jury.

These is the criteria as announced on

Each national contest will result in images for the international contest.
The international jury, made up of seven members with different skills and
backgrounds, will determine the winners of this final round out of the
nominated images and award the prizes.
Criteria

The jury will determine the winners of the international contest by the
following criteria (in no particular order):

Technical quality (Sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.)

Originality / setting

Usefulness of the image on Wikipedia

Last year when the contest was an European contest these were the members
of the
jury,
just to give You an idea where to look:

   - Michael Bieodowicz, manging director images ZEIT
Magazine
   - Sebastian ter Burg , C- BY-SA
   Photographer,
   - Tomasz GAnicz, president of Wikimedia Polska
   - José Gustavo Góngora, Wikipedian
   - Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, General Secretary of Europa

Please help us with ideas and contacts, if You have, to the persons you
recommend.

best regards
Barbara
