2022-08-05 Thread Franziska Putz
Dear all,

You are warmly invited to the Global Advocacy/Public Policy team's monthly
conversation hour. The topic this month is *copyright*.

We are hosting two calls in different time zones:

   - *August 26 @ 14:00 UTC* (check your local time
   )
   - *August 27 @ 8:00 UTC* (check your local time
   )

In the first half of the call we will discuss community approaches to
copyright advocacy, which will feature Dimi Dimitrov from the Free
Knowledge Advocacy Group EU as well as Amanda Lawrence from Wikimedia
Australia. After that, it is up to you!

The conversation hour will be on Zoom and will be recorded. The recording
will be uploaded to our Meta-Wiki page. All details including how to add to
the agenda can be found on on Meta

.

Hope to see you there!

Ziski

Three working weeks have passed since the above was written; I've seen
no such follow-up. Have I missed something?

[Wikimedia-l] Re: The new Signpost issue (Aug. 1) is out

2022-08-05 Thread Benjamin Lees
I would encourage everyone to take a look at the second link Mike
provided. I recommend reading the entire talk page and, if you have time,
the talk page for the candidate guidelines[1] and for the election
itself[2]; you will get a better idea of how this election has been managed
so far and can evaluate the elections committee's behavior and the
candidates' behavior based on that.

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Wikivideos - New project proposal

2022-08-05 Thread James Heilman
We have a very similar project at VideoWiki which you can see here

https://mdwiki.org/wiki/Video:Tuberculosis

The compiler is here

https://videowiki.wmcloud.org/en/videowiki/Video:Tuberculosis?wikiSource=https://mdwiki.org=editor

We have it working in about 19 languages.

This new effort builds the video when you hit play rather than storing
versions on Commons, which has pluses and minuses.

James

[Wikimedia-l] Re: The new Signpost issue (Aug. 1) is out

2022-08-05 Thread Mike Peel

Hi,

On the other hand, every other candidate was against this deviation from
the established process, see the response at:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Wikipedia_Signpost/2022-08-01/Election_guide#Comment_from_candidates

As was the election committee, see:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Community_Voting/Questions_for_Candidates
(under 'From the Elections Committee').

Thanks,
Mike

I want to thank the Signpost editors for setting this up and for
allowing me to write an op-ed about why I'm running:
.

There was a pretty short period of time for community members to suggest
questions for candidates, so I'm happy to answer any questions people
might have about my candidacy on the talk page or elsewhere.
