Overlap of membership is no reason to make two groups identical, either
in reality or in the mind of third parties.

Strawman. I didn't say "comment on" I applied a broader principle.
there is little point in sending ideas without at least a rough idea
of what response is being prepared.

As for why I don't contact Joscelyn Upendram I'm already a member of
as many cliques as I care to be. I'm not interested in getting
involved with a less then public process.

No they aren't, and they shouldn't be expected to, because the two have a
great overlap of membership and the same goals.

If it comes to a point when the public is highly aware of the distinction,
then some deep rift must've developed between enwp and wmuk... wait that
sounds familiar.

Thanks for the suggestions and views about whether/what sort of submission
WMUK should make to the consultation on the CDB.

There isn't a 'response' to comment on at the moment as we agreed as a Board
on Thursday night that WMUK should go ahead and make a submission to the
consultation. The Board agreed that we should keep the WMUK response brief,
more to raise a flag about the Bill needing reconsideration, rather than a
full blown detailed response of the type Open Rights Group is likely to
submit.

I will only get time to work on a response towards the end of next week &/
weekend while being conscious of the deadline of 23rd August. If anyone
would like to kick-start things prior to then, that would be great.

Thanks,
Joscelyn

Asking people to comment on something they haven't seen would indeed be
unreasonable. Fortunately, Jon did something entirely different:
inviting those interested to get in touch with the person who will write the
response. Why not take up the suggestion?

I was surprised to see so little stuff behind the screen. I would
expect the work behind the screen to extend back a long way, and for
the scaffolding to eventually join up with venerable-looking buildings
(to represent GLAMs, universities etc.). I haven't the artistic skills
to realise this vision, though.

[Wikimediauk-l] Shaping the 2013 Activity Plan

2012-08-04 Thread Chris Keating
Dear all,

Please help us shape Wikimedia UK's work for 2013!

At the Board meeting on Thursday, we felt that we need more creative ideas
to put into the 2013 plan, as what we currently have is a bit too similar
to the 2012 Activity Plan. Every Board member has committed to coming up
with at least one new idea for a way to spend £10,000 productively. But we
would also like you all to join in! Please submit your ideas, here:
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/2013_Activity_Plan/Ideas

These should be ideas which are *create impac*t, rather than being internal
matters like governance or fundraising. Please also think about the
likely *resource
implication*. E.g. "Hold Editathons at 50 museums" is a great idea, what
would we need to make it happen in terms of money, volunteer time, or staff
time? And don't be afraid to think big. We will refine, filter and
prioritise ideas at a later date, as well as thinking about what resources
and structures we need to make more cool things happen, but at the moment
we just need more ideas down on-wiki.

Many thanks,

Chris
