I have been curious if anyone has ever tried an automotive 24vdc regulator,
like Volvos and some tractors? They seem to be much more substantially
built then something like the Tycons I have...

Use a meanwell RSD series power supply. RSD-100B-24 takes from
16.8-31.2VDC in and converts it to a clean 24V out.

The 100 means 100W. There are other wattages. (24V/4.8A is 100W, more
than enough for 8-10 UBNT radios).
B means '24v in'. There are other ranges, not all are available in all
 wattages.

The RSD handles inrush better than the SD versions. There are din rail
and wall mount brackets available for this power supply.

[WISPA] Advertising IP space for Business Customers

2013-07-16 Thread Bobby Burrow
What is the general consensus in regards to advertising AS number space
for business/non-profit client that has their own allocation of space
from ARIN? Let's say the customer has service from you as a backup and
wants to transition to you as a primary and continue to use their own IP
space.

I am looking in to the feasibility of meeting this request and what, if
any, fees to quote to the customer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: [WISPA] Voltage regulator

2013-07-16 Thread lar

As already noted there are a number of sources for regulators.

The meanwell mentioned by Forrest is probably the best choice for this case
but
I'd like to add http://www.zahninc.com/ to the list.
Well built and fairly inexpensive in the step-up,step-downat lower wattages.

I have used the DCDC48/24/280 - 280 watt 48 V to 24 V @ $99
 DCDC24/48/260 - 260 watt 24 V to 48 V @ $99
andDCDC6350-S-ADJ 50 Amp Voltage Regulator monster to Regulate
 48 - 60 Volts. ($407)

They have a wide range of devices that they design and manufacture. Most have
a degree of adjustability to tweak to your requirements. David Zahn's designs
are
conservative so they will do everything that they say. The downside is that
you have
to convince David Zahn that your not going to burn up his device before he
will sell the first
one to you. (know how much current you need and leave some room for startup
surge current)

As a small guy I try to support the other small guys like David Zahn when
the device and price fits.

Wouldn't the fact that 2.5GHz is licensed minimize the chance that there
would be outside interference? I don't know, I'm asking.

  How do they figure this?

I think it should be Low susceptibility due to SELF interference.

900 in my area, California Central Valley east of the Bay Area, is almost
useless for 900 as the power companies have put in smart meters

  Just got this today:

This sounds interesting anyone have any thoughts? 900MHz always
gets the propagation advertisement, but my experience has been that
while it propagates better, the gain limitations and size of reasonable
  antennas make it unusable.

Re: [WISPA] Alvarion Demise?

2013-07-16 Thread wispa
You are likely thinking of Aperto - it just happened to be that the main
contact person here for Alvarion moved to them, and I believe recently moved
back to Alvarion, so it is possible to have confused the two.

If anyone is needs Alvarion-compatible WiMAX CPE get in touch with me off-line:
we can supply under reasonable MOQ.

Didn't they partner with Tranzeo. Seems like a bad move on both their
 parts.
