RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Cisco Controller Code

2014-07-31 Thread Jason Cook
As a few others have mentioned, if you are running webauth get a recommended MR
from TAC otherwise you’ll get crashes

This seems a somewhat reasonable page as well.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/7721/wireless-lan-alerts

We had 3 AP’s fail upon pre-download of the image(came from 7.5), so yes they
died during pre-download not during the actual upgrade. 1 came back but 2 now
need replacement. Seems the same as what Kitri mentioned but our attempts to
recover didn’t work so well. We followed a different process though.

Had to reboot our 3602i AP’s with 11ac modules a second time after upgrade
from 120.0 to the MR 122.6 release as 11ac clients couldn’t get DHCP.

So if you ignore controller crashes, AP failures and extra AP reboots … it’s
been smooth……..

There’s also a field upgrade image to go with the 7.6 code

Yes we’ll follow the amen to a good stable code. They promise a lot for code 8
but I won’t hold my breathe yet.

We don't allow wireless printers but allow printing via wireless with a
product called PrinterOn. Seems to work well and have only deployed in
areas with high byod like a library and a few others. You just connect to a
webpage and then select the printer in your area.

What we did last year, was have them connect to our MultimediaDevices
SSID which is "secured" by mac filtering and is set up for game consoles
devices that can't do 802.1x. They would have to register the printer on
our home grown device registration page.

A problem that crept up with this approach, is that if some students
turned their printer off long enough it got a different IP address and
their client software would try to print to the old IP. I was thinking
about having our registration page give them a fixed address in DHCP but
the problem only came up on one or two occasions so I didn't think it
warranted the development time. The other option would be to email them
the DDNS name after registration with instructions.

The other possible issue is students printing to each others printers by
accident or as a prank. We did not receive any helpdesk calls reporting
this but I'm going to assume it happens.

?Agreed, unfortunately. This is really thorny territory. We provide USB cables
and the backstory for why wireless printers aren't a good fit. This is one of
the unfortunate aspects of running the dorms on centralized business-class

difficult to make so without plunging the whole thing into unmanageable chaos.

Amen to that. Even more frustrating- what constitutes “good code” varies
depending on whether you ask your SE, TAC, someone else at TAC, yet someone
else still at TAC, or the community forums where the exalted Partners and VIPs
get more information on such matters than us lowly end users. Very often the
partners’ opinions differ from TAC’s.

For the market leader, this is almost a decade now of running insanity when it

using the "sh redundancy" tools from the command line showed no issues. We

was a bug (don't have the exact bug ID) and released to us 7.6.122.5 which

Every now and then a controller would reboot as well. TAC attributed to:

[WIRELESS-LAN] Posture Checking policies on Macs

2014-07-31 Thread Kelly Phillips
Hello,

I just wanted to see what, if any, posture policies anyone is enforcing on
student Mac computers on their campus. We have been using Cisco Clean Access
and have not required the NAC agent be installed and therefore have not
required any anti-virus software on these computers. We are in the process of
implementing Cisco ISE and in creating our posture policies I am looking for
feedback on how other places are dealing with Mac computers. Do you require
the NAC agent to be installed on all Mac computers? Do you require an
anti-virus to be installed and up to date? Or do you just exempt these devices
and only enforce these requirements on Windows PC's?

Any feedback would greatly appreciated.

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Cisco Controller Code

2014-07-31 Thread McClintic, Thomas
Good Morning,

We have been running 7.6 for over 2 months in full production, 6 months in test
and limited deployment. No client issues reported yet.

We did run into the issue with web auth crashing our anchor controller. Be sure
to get the code .120.6 or later for the fix if you are running web auth.

I haven’t had issues with HA like in earlier releases. Running static addresses
on the service ports, had issues with DHCP on them though.

We have been seeing some 2602’s have issues with the file system. It requires a
file system check to resolve. I’m not sure if this is related to the inability
to get the backup version put on. It’s not a game breaker for us and only rears
its head on 1 out of about 200 APs.

If you are running Prime and MSE be sure you review those upgrade paths as
well. Bookmark this page
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html.
 Also shows 1131’s are supported.

7.6 is more of a band aid to get us to ac(2700/3700) support, most of the
highlights will be coming with 8.0 like RX-SOP, etc. Going from 7.3 to 7.6 you
are going to have a lot of new nerd knobs, so enjoy!

We’ve been running it for over a month. I’ve seen one primary issue with
cluster failover (Active controller failed), and have an active TAC case opened
on it. I just received 7.6.122.12 from TAC and will be putting it on my lab
test cluster today. The users have not seen any issues, because the HA works
really well – fortunately. Other than the GLBP/Macintosh Maverick issue, we’re
happy with it (running 1252’s, 1142’s, 3502’s and 3702’s). You may need to
check the 1131’s to see if they are supported on 7.6.120.0, though.

Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] Cisco Controller Code

We need to upgrade our 5508 controller code to support the 2702i AP's(Currently
at 7.3.101.0). We have a lot of 2600, 3500 series AP's and some legacy 1142 and
1131's. We are thinking about moving to 7.6.120.0. Has anyone had experience
with this version ? Any issues? recommendations?

Thanks,

Tom Klimek

Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] Sample RFP / RFQ ?

2014-07-31 Thread Jerry Bucklaew

Jason,

Thanks for the sample RFP. It was perfect timing and will help us
create ours.

Thomas,

The university at Buffalo is also looking to do an RFP for a
complete WLAN upgrade. We will also be including into the RFP the "RF
Design", cabling and installation. A complete solution if you will. We
will be happy to share or work together depending on timing. We are
hoping to get our RFP out Very soon and I am working on creating it now.

Thomas,

Attached is an RFP that we ran late last Fall. Feel free to use or
discard ideas as you please. The format is awful, but that is an
artifact of our purchasing departments system.

anyone who has been through this recently who wouldn’t mind sharing

anything.
