I guess thatÂs pretty much what I was looking for. Not a real need for forums with such site I guess. Thanks a lot for the link! Re: [WiX-users] Forums
I use Nabble too, but only because Google finds it and SourceForge falls over every time I try to do a search. This is the main issue I have with WiX, where to find decent samples and check if a question has already been asked. Re: [WiX-users] Forums...
I'm not sure what Christopher is intending with his tone here, but I don't seem to remember anybody being opposed to doing anything that the community wants to do. It's just all a matter of time and resources. If the community would like to have a forum, I don't think anybody is opposed to it. Somebody just needs to set it up and pick a place for it to live. That somebody would probably have to be on the core team, just because that person would also have to be the administrator. That means that doing forum administration would also take time away from writing code, testing, or debugging the toolset. I think we're always open to suggestions. Just because we don't sometimes use a suggestion or choose to go a different way doesn't mean that we don't play well with others. Also, aren't there other "forum-like" venues already out there for WiX? I know there are a couple of Wiki sites and also sites that aggregate these emails. What additional value will a forum serve? Re: [WiX-users] Forums...
If you'd prefer, the mailing list is mirrored in a newsgroup, which is how I use it. Despite my gentle suggestions this fact has never made it onto the WiX site, and you basically had to be on the list at the time this functionality was added to know about it. Server: news.gmane.org Port: 119 Group: gmane.comp.windows.devel.wix.user I believe there's also a secure version at snews.gmane.org but at some point it suffered connection problems (a long time ago) and I switched back to the normal version. I can't remember if the port is different for the secured version. Rob Chris Weiss wrote: > I think if there was, someone would have spoken up. If a forum would be set up with an alternative mailing list interface to satisfy both worlds (which is, actually, not that complicated to do), I would have no objection, of course, but if wix-users would become web-only, I would stop following it and contributing to it at once. Logging in to numerous websites (I have quite a few lists to follow), navigating, looking for new posts, writing replies in web text entry fields take much more time than I can possibly afford and still do some work... :-) Bye, Gábor --- DEÃK JAHN, Gábor -- Budapest, Hungary E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. I think if there was, someone would have spoken up. I've not seen any. Personally, I prefer the mailing list. Archives are there for the searching on the web and I subscribe to mailing lists on Gmail, so I never delete the old posts anyhow and the search is nice and fast. Overall, I feel it's faster/better than my experiences on Macrovision's InstallShield forums. But that's just me.
