Re: [WiX-users] MSI detected as virus.... RunOnce registry keys

2012-06-02 Thread imran

Yes, I think WiX Burn is a great tool except this
issue. I have tried many things, and I was successful, but because of only this
issue, I was not able to deploy my application using WiX, because what I wanted
was a single Installer for 32 bit and 64 bit OS, which installs everything
including USB drivers, and .net framework 3.5 SP1.
I am a very new developer, and first time developed
software, myself , alone. So I don't have extra-ordinary knowledge to deal with
these kind of issues. May be there is a solution, I know, but I can not find it.
Anyway, thank you very much for your reply. May be in
the near future, I will be able to use WiX to deploy my application, and that
time is very near, I know.

I'm still getting more bug reports from users about this, even with our

caveat/known issues...

Thanks guys! I feed some info back to the customer and am trying to get
more details. We provide a zip version of the install that requires
manual setup. He's using that as a workaround for now.

I'll let you know if I learn anything more, but it sounds like we just
won't support Trend's aggressive setting.

Could you use he ActiveSetup registry key instead of the RunOnce key? Is
that monitored also?

This has been seen before and reported as a bug:

I believe it only affects Windows XP - is that what your customer has?

I don't think there is a workaround. According to Trend's documentation,
signed executables should be OK but they don't seem to be. If you have any
contacts at Trend I would ask them!

I don't think there is a workaround. According to Trend's documentation, signed
executables should be OK but they don't seem to be. If you have any contacts at
Trend I would ask them!

Re: [WiX-users] MSI detected as virus.... RunOnce registry keys

2012-03-27 Thread Rob Mensching
That's a standard part of any software installation (usually for handling
reboots). There were conversations earlier on this mailing list about Trend
Micro OfficeScan aggressively killing anything that tried to touch that
key. It apparently is a configuration setting in the virus checker to be
that aggressive. The work around thus far was to change that setting.
Others here may have more experience with it...
