Re: [WSG] Critique
Is it just me, or is the font size used for the posts, huge? I dont have the best eyesight on the planet, and am using a 1280 x 1024 resolution on a TFT, and the font seems awfully big to me in IE6 at text size medium. It looks ok in Opera 7.54, but still seems rather large in FF1.0. The post text keeps it's width in IE6 and Opera 7.54, but takes up the whole screen in FF1.0. It looks better in IE6 and Opera imho. Julia, Thanks for the input - I've now become a dot com though (collind.com), and am moving everything over to there, and I'm thinking now about completely redoing the design. I'll keep in mind the text size issues you mentioned. Thanks again! For the most part, the design looks fine, a bit too dark, perhaps, but otherwise fine. From a functional standpoint I do have a couple of criticisms. First, at my default font size, the L, first o, and about a quarter of the second are blocked by the menu. By removing the background color from #menu solves that problem and creates a nice effect. Even if you increase the font size several times it's still OK. Second, at over 123k, the image big for dial-up. As a .jpg I'm sure you can increase the compression without a serious loss of quality. ** The discussion list for http://webstandardsgroup.org/ See http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm for some hints on posting to the list getting help **

Collin, Some of your users may not of eaten as many carrots as you did as a child. Best, David. Regarding the black on white - I use two Sony P232s with ICC profiles created by Monaco systems, along with a 17 iMac, as well as two Sony GDM-F520s. I have no legibility issues at all with any of the monitors concerning the color scheme. I have noticed the problems with the diagonal text on the header background image when the page is resized. I think I've tracked it down to the absolutely positioned #menu div, and using a background image for the header. The header seems to slide right up under the #menu div. I'll be tinkering with that next. Thanks for the tip on the .feedback CSS error. Bojhan, I have changed most of the text colors and fonts - hope you like them better. I went with a small-caps Verdana for the posts font. Too bad Trajan Pro (my absolute favorite font of all time) isn't available on most computers, eh? :) Thanks for the comments so far! Collin Davis wrote: Header image is now 34KB It is still sharp and much faster to load. I really love how it looks also when the page is resized now - thanks! You're welcome. I think it even looks alright when the text gets overlapped (though fortunately, it takes a lot of resizing before that happens). Too bad Trajan Pro (my absolute favorite font of all time) isn't available on most computers, eh? :) So what? Just insert it at beginning of the list of font names. That way, the other person who has it will also be able to enjoy it. ** The discussion list for http://webstandardsgroup.org/ See http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm for some hints on posting to the list getting help **
Re: [WSG] Critique please
Looks good on Safari and validates in the W3C validator. Not a validation issue but more contrast between some or your text and background colours will improve accessibility. Re: [WSG] Critique please
Hi Richard I really like it - maybe three small comments, all very minor: 1) You're using inline styles in a number of places. 2) div id =' footnav' - there is a space in front of a number of your id attribute values. Not sure how this would affect CSS, JS, etc.. 3) indent is a poor choice for a class name. Describe *why* the data in presented the way it is, rather than describing the presentation. 9.5 out of 10. Re: [WSG] Critique please
Richard Not bad, If you hadnt told me I wouldnt have known it was a first attempt. The only 3 problems I found were: 1. http://www.pricklypair.co.nz/contactus.php lets me enter the fullstop character for all fields, you need to validate to at least check for an @ sign 2. The white bird of paradise photo http://pricklypair.co.nz/images/strelnic.jpg is missing 3. When a page/image is not found, a standard 404 error is displayed. You can customize your server's error message so your users are not struck with this unhelpful error by creating a custom 404 error page eg: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2003/02/13/davidsklar.html -- Neerav Bhatt http://www.bhatt.id.au Web Development IT consultancy Mobile: +61 (0)403 8000 27 http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/neerav Richard Lake wrote: Could you critique http://www.pricklypair.co.nz for me please.
