[X2Go-User] Wrong language and path settings

2015-11-13 Thread Harald Heigl
Hi,

Following setup:
- Fedora 22 as server: v4.0.1.19
- x2go on a debian 8.0 for armhf (is a small device similar to raspberry
and others) as client: v4.0.5.0

I've installed mate on fedora and can connect from debian-client without
problems. But I have some weird effects:
- Language is english, I would prefer german
- keyboard settings are english
- encoding is not set to utf8
- Path is only to some mainpaths and not for example to ~/[myuser]/bin
- and much less other environment variables set as sitting in front of
fedora 22-server

If I log on locally in Fedora 22 with mate, I have german language, german
keyboard, utf8-encoding, paths ... .

Do you have a clue how to solve or at least investigate this? Is this a
server or a client thing (not found anything on x2go client I can set, I
can set keyboard layout there, but this doens't change anything)?

Thanks,
Harald

Re: [X2Go-User] Questions regarding mate/video quailty

2015-09-13 Thread Harald Heigl
Hi,

Cause this mail is quite long - in short - problem solved (at least
for this mailing list), I have still a small problem:
- Right mouse click doesn't work in my x2go session:
- Left click works, middle click, scroll wheel, even the additional
buttons browser back and for are working, but not my ight, I always
have to hit context-menu-key on keyboard which works.
Can you give me a hint of whats going on and how to solve?
- I'm using the latest (4.0.5.0) client version, problem is also on 2
x86 computers (1 client, 1 server) with both fedora 22 set up.

Original - analysed and solved problem:
I went back to an x86-Client with fedora22 on it:
- on the server deinstalled nomachine, which I tried for testing -->
seemed to give some speed-up
- used a preempt kernel -> no real change
- changed the ssh encrypting to blowfish-cbc, arcfour -> little change
(as aes is performant on i7, but not older models)
- used kaffeine --> big speedup
- If I'm using vlc the timebar sometimes moves on, but the video
doesn't change. I don't know what this causes, perhaps some caching or
vlc tries to write a direct write on hardware components.
Parole-player seems to do something similar. kaffeine runs smoth,
picture is not as good as if I'm sitting in front of my physical-pc
(since I'm compressing here with 16m-jpeg), but good enough.

So x2go-server seems to work at least it works so well, that I don't
notice any real differences.
So I tested with cubietruck (cubieboard 3.0, armhf, mali-GPU) as
client once again:
- nomachine, ssh and kaffeine have also given some significant
speedup. At least a video covering one third of the screen (at
1920x1080p) is running really well, fullscreen is still a little but
jumping, not as bad as before, but clearly visible.

So my problem seemed to be a combination of slow server, "wrong"
player, interfering package (nomachine) and a slow client.
For now I'll try another linux image on client, perhaps the mali-GPU
isn't supported right in my software or the x11 on the cleint is too
old. Perhaps there is also a limit (I don't hope so) what cubieboard
can do. But I think this will be a problem I'll better post in
cubieboard forums.

Thanks for your support!
Harald

Re: [X2Go-User] Questions regarding mate/video quailty

2015-09-13 Thread Harald Heigl
Hi,

Because projects like x2go, nomachine, ... are saying that it works
(video, nomachine even says for their products you can do CAD even if
I doubt this) and you don't see real differences from sitting in front
of your pc. I don't want to use it mainly for video, I can use my PS3
for this. But if I want to watch a short video, so why not and if I
optimize settings (what I've done) for video (which needs bandwith and
good speed), also the rest of using will be more fluent, so my
thoughts.
Don't misunderstand me, 1920x1080p is the native solution of my screen
as most screens nowadays have, I don't think that other people here
who said they are getting 30fps real time video are using 640x480 for
connecting via x2go. And since transfer is compressed I know I won't
get the same quality as fullhd through hdmi (which has far more
bandwidth than gigabit lan) and my videos themself are far away from
fullhd, at least most of them. So not the video is 1080p, but the
screen resolution! But at least between two x86 pcs I now get a
fullscreen video with kaffeine (+audio) which is quite fluent and
quality is quite ok.

Cubieboard itself is sometimes a little bit slow and there is no
"real" chrome (just chromium), and some other things. So I thought I'd
just use it as a thin client for my main-pc (which is used by 2
persons incuding me) and I wanted to see if I can get it there where I
don't notice any differences between sitting in front of my pc or
siiting "remote" in the next room. My last test with two x86 pcs went
quite well, I'll have to test a little more with my board. So problem
here solve, video is playing.

But I've still the problem with my right mouse click, any ideas?

Thanks,
Harald

Re: [X2Go-User] Questions regarding mate/video quailty

2015-09-06 Thread Harald Heigl
Hi,

I have still the problem, that running video over x2go (per vlc or
mates default paroleplayer) is really slow and laggy.
server: Fedora 22, core2duo, x86, 4.0.1.19
client: linaro, cubieboard, armhf, 4.0.5.0

- I have testet with another x86 computer as client with no change
- I have connected the server with the other x86 client directly to
find out if the network has a problem, with no change
- I have tried iperf, but the speed of my gigabit lan is fast
- I have changed the graphiccard of my server (if that changes anything)

I have to admit, that my server is an old core2duo/computer, with old
radeoncard, ssd and 6GB RAM, but I just want to connect a single user
from another room inside my home. (and at max one physical user)
Fedora 22 was set up on the server 2 months ago with a fresh install
and a lot of packages like libreoffice, 2 browsers, ... . x2goserver
was set up from the repos.
Running videos directly on the computer is no problem.
Are there any limitations or something I can check (logs, something I
can try out) or are there any minimum system requirements?

Thanks,
Harald

[X2Go-User] Questions regarding mate/video quailty

2015-08-23 Thread Harald Heigl
Hi everyone,

I have following szenario:
- server: Fedora 22 with gnome 3.16 (and mate)
- client cubietruck (mini client like raspberry)
- connected via 1Gb-LAN-cable
- using LAN quality and no compression (but I also tried 16MB-jpg with
no difference)

1) As I read in the docu, gnome 3.12+ is not supported, are there any
plans in the near future?
2) After installing mate on the server, I didn't see an option mate
on the client (4.0.1), only gnome, kde, lxde, xfce, so I choose other
desktop (don't know if it's called exactly so, cause I have a german
interface) and mate-session as parameter. Is this the correct way to
use mate?
3) And this is my main point: Working seems to be fine so far, but
when I start a video in mate (over x2go) it opens parole media
player (seems to use gstreamer) and it says: gstreamer backend error
- Configured videosink video is not working. If I start videos with
vlc they come up but are really slow und showing only each 5 seconds
or so. If I use nomachine v4 they are not as fluent as if I sit in
front of my server, but at least they are acceptable. I don't have
the gstreamer problems there. Is there something I can configure, does
someone know this problem? videos I tested with are h.264 encoded if
that matters.

Thanks in advance,
Harald
