This is rather common and has been answered here already look in the archive.
There should be not reason to reinstall it is just a config problem...

I had the same problem, actually, on my system, ld doesn't accept
-lstdc++, even though it is provided the complete path to it:

$ ld -L/opt/gcc/lib -lstdc++
ld: cannot find -lstdc++

-r-xr-xr-x   1 root other2217384 Feb 16 16:51 libstdc++.so.2.10.0

It's Solaris 9 x86, GCC 2.95.3, GNU Binutils 2.13.2.1

However, I found a solution:
in my host.def file, I added the line (among others):
#define SharedGLUReqs $(LDPRELIBS) $(XLIB) $(GLXLIB)

which overrides the default one in sv4Lib.tmpl, which has -lstdc++

make world had no problem then.

I do have some other outstanding problems, though, that are not solved
yet, which I'm still investigating :-)

IIRC correctly that is an XFree86 v3.3.x *server* (dated 2000),
not an XFree86 v4.x driver.

Can you tell us more about your squiggle, and send the log file
(usually /var/log/XFree86.0.log, but may be /var/log/xdm.log
if you are using xdm with a v3.3 server) ?

I've seen lots of low-medium spec monitor that support
VertRefresh up to 160, so I wouldn't worry about that.
HorizSync 115kHz does sound high, I'd try reducing it.

[XFree86] Regarding configuring the Video Display card

2003-03-07 Thread Sundareswar R
Dear Sir/Madam,
  I have started using Redhat linux 7.3. I have
installed it successfully but the display looks
garbled. The whole of the Redhat Desktop Window is
looking small. Icons are large and not proper. If I
click on any application, it takes long time to load.
My sound is not working. I am interested to pass the
RHCE exam soon. So, I need to work on Redhat linux. I
went through the book REDHAT linux 7.3 Bible written
by Christopher Negus. As mentioned in the book I have
even ran the XFree86 application and In the root
prompt I have tried Xconfigurator command too. Nothing
worked. I'm really tired on configuring the Video
card. Please help me in configuring the display, sound
and provide a good suggestion to make all my
application to load faster.

  The Configuration of my computer is as follows:
1. AMD-K6 3D Processor - 500Mhz
2. 64MB RAM
3. 10.2 GB HDD(5.92 GB ALLOCATED FOR LINUX)
4. J-530BF Motherboard

You keep looking in a wrong direction. I had _exactly_ the same problem
until I set the DacSpeed. Try

grep -i 'clock range' /var/log/XFree86.0.log

For your color depth (24 bit) you'll see something like 136 MHz, which
is right for i810, but wrong for i815, and which makes your system
operate at a very low refresh rate, therefore screen squiggle.

Do add the following line to the "Device" section of your XF86Config

DacSpeed  230

and most likely it'll work. You don't event risk to break your monitor
if HorizSync and VertRefresh limits are right (besides, ViewSonics have
builtin protection from overclocking, IIRC).

That's no black magic, it is meant to work this way.

BTW are you so tight on memory that you limit your VideoRAM to 4 MB?
That should suffice for your depth*resolution, but 8 MB would leave more
room for acceleration.

  Roman.

[XFree86] no screens

2003-03-07 Thread Nicolas Morin

Hi,

I have a problem with the X serveron my brand new
Red Hat 8.0 box. The installation ran smoothly in
graphical mode and I saw it did probe correctly the video card (Intel 845) and
the monitor (ViewSonic GA771). But then on rebooting for the first time, I got a

[XFree86] lost glx after update

2003-03-07 Thread Maarten Hilgenga
Hi all,

after doing an online update, a software package called abaqus is unable
to display any graphics because the glx module is missing. I found out
the update included the latest NVIDIA driverupdate , which was not my
intention. I've been able to restore the system back to mesasoft and
included "Load glx" in the XFree86 file, but in XFree86.0.log I saw that
X wasn't able to find the glx module. I'm using XFree86 version 4.1.0
and read that glx is included from XFree86 version 4, but I'm unable to
find this module. Can anyone tell me how to reinstall the glx mod?

thanx,

Maarten Hilgenga

You must do this command as a user that has access to the x server. My
guess at what you're doing is opening and xterm/konsole etc, su'ing to
root and the trying to open an x app. Before you su, type xhost
localhost, and it should work. If this isn't what you want then post back
and I'll try again.

You need to agpart.o for your compiled kernel, but this will depend on
your dist. If it's SuSE then there are certainly modules in packages on
the cd's, although others I'm not sure of.

[XFree86] released XFree86 4.3.0 binaries "for" glibc 2.2 use 2.3 symbols.

2003-03-07 Thread Espinosa Soley, Arturo

Hi all,

I run Debian Woody with glibc 2.2.5.  Just downloaded
and attempted to install the released "glibc2.2 binaries" of XFree4.3.0.
The install script detects the right version of glibc that I have, but the
binaries wont work.

They wont run as they are requesting GLIBC2.3
After some asking a friend of mine suggested I tried:

$objdump -T /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 | grep GLIBC_ | tr -s ' '
| cut -d ' ' -f 4 | sort -u

here's the output:

.bss    0004

 GLIBC_2.0

 GLIBC_2.1

 GLIBC_2.2

 GLIBC_2.3

The guess so far is that the binaries in the released area
were built on a machine with glibc 2.2.x with x>90... which is basically
2.3.  right?

Will those binaries be rebuilt?  Or people who really
have glibc 2.2 should build from scratch?

Thanks in advance!

[XFree86] help with IGP 340M

2003-03-07 Thread Miguel Tato
Hi all.

My Compaq Presario 1525EA has a ATI IGP 340M graphic card, which is a
"flavor" of ATI radeon mobility M6.
Though its device ID is not known by the X server (0x4337), I managed to
run it with the radeon driver using ChipID=0x4c59 in the "device"
section of XF86config, but I must turn off the accel. (Option
"noaccel"). If I don't do this, the kernel can't load the agpgart module.
I believe the problem is that the AGP chipset (lspci gives 00:00.0 Host
bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device cab2 (rev 02)) is not known
by that module.

Can someone tell me how to overcome this and use the full capabilities
os my video card?

Thx in advance,

Miguel

[XFree86] How to use many (more than 6) button mouse devices?

2003-03-07 Thread Brad Sawatzky
I've got myself a Kensington ExpertMouse Pro USB trackball. The thing has
  6 "special" buttons (ie. intended for exe launching, etc)
  4  regular buttons
  1  wheel

My current XFree86 (v 4.2.x) Config block is:
  Section "InputDevice"
Identifier  "TurboMouse"
Driver  "mouse"
Option  "CorePointer"
#Option "SendCoreEvents""true"
Option  "Device""/dev/input/mice"
Option  "Protocol"  "ImPS/2"
Option  "Buttons"   "12"
Option  "ZAxisMapping"  "4 5"
  EndSection

This gives me three usable regular buttons (ie. right, left, middle),
and a working wheel. In 'xev' the fourth regular button generates a
button3 event, and none of the special buttons register at all. The
XF86Config "Buttons" option doesn't seem to do much at all...

I tried the Protocol options "auto" and "usb" but X bailed with an error
that it couldn't find a working mouse (or something to that effect).

I've googled usenet and the web for a couple days now without any success.
There is a sourceforge project called jamd
that looks like it might work but it appears to have been idle for quite a
while. Ideally, I would be happy if I could export the "extra" button
events as keypresses (which could then be mapped as I chose).

Any suggestions?

I'd appreciate a CC: to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> if your MUA
doesn't do it automatically.

The DacSpeed entry had no effect. (I tried it on your first recommendation.)
I have also tried changing my sync/refresh rates from
HorizSync30.0 - 115.0
VertRefresh  50.0 - 160.0

to
HorizSync30.0 - 90.0
VertRefresh  55.0 - 85.0

as suggested by someone else in the group (to no effect).

FYI also:

This took care of modes greater than "1024x768". However, I am still

HorizSync30.0 - 115.0

  Roman.

Hmm... Then it'll make a lot of sense to send the complete
XFree86.0.log, otherwise it'll be blind guessing.

You've changed the allowed range, the actual values are chosen by the
server. I'd try figuring out what the server decided to use from
XFree86.0.log. Besides with monitor's own controls you can find out
what the actual frequencies are.

Still for XF86Config better look these ranges up in the monitor manual
or on the manufacturer's site.

As for DacSpeed, I got this clock range (12.00 to 230.00 MHz) after setting
DacSpeed, before setting it I got 12.00 to 163.00 MHz.

I have also reset the sync/refresh rages to their original values, which

don't know about any patches; but AFAIK, all I should do is run cvsup (which I
do, all the time) then pkg_version -c or portupgrade or whatever you do to
rebuild ports on bsd. so I do know I was using the latest released 4.7 or
4.8-RC code (full buildworld and buildkernel, also).

I will contact him and see if this is news to him.

I mean pkg. I build all things from src on my own machine, I never use pkgs,
only ports.

the SOURCE is being fetched and the _drv.o files are being created, but they
don't work! only the pre-built matrox .o files from their site, being slammed
into the right lib/.../modules area works. weird, huh?

Hi All,

I have just run xfree86 configure and it says my card is not supported
but that I should send output of scanpci to the people at xfree86. Since
no address was given I have decided to turn to this list for help. Below
is the output from scanpci.

The relevant part I think is

I was assuming that you were running 4.3.0. Eric A. is the maintainer
for the FreeBSD port, but he is trying to get 4.3.0 out for the 4.8
release, so he is probably not interested in 4.2 patches any longer.

If you built from ports, you should have 4.2.1 which I run on a dual
head Matrox with no problems. (In fact, I am using it to send this
message.) I use portupgrade to keep my ports up to date and use the
'-DWITH_MATROX_GXX_DRIVER' option to make by entering it into
/usr/local/etc/pkgtools.conf. It builds with the sources in
mgadrivers-2.0-src.tgz. I don't see why your results were different.

Very weird! I am baffled as to why your results are different. It is
nice that the XFree86 driver binaries are OS independent so that they
work on both Linux and FreeBSD.

ok. to clarify, I'm running 4.2.1 on freebsd 4.8-RC, all sw is latest released
-STABLE tree as of yesterday.

and my last mail said pkg. I didn't mean that. I mean strictly by ports (src)
only, at my site.

yes, I forced that define! I know that since I did a 'file' on the .o matrox
hal files and they said freebsd. if you do a file on them ON a bsd box and
they are the 'linux' (matrox built .o files) they simply don't say freebsd in
parens. so I know I built them ok with that define, like you said. hmmm.
wonder why it didn't work for me.

are you using dual dvi, which REQUIRES hal_lib ?

well, they are. I could swap back to the bsd-built mga_foo.o files and I bet
dualhead won't work (even singlehead didn't work). then I swap in the linux .o
files and all is fine.

well, 4.3 is fine. I just wanted to be able to build the port and run my
workstation on bsd instead of linux. trying to migrate all away from linux but
it was a very frustrating day yesterday. took the entire day to get bsd X to
work. only takes a few hrs (at most) to do that on linux (sigh..)

Re: [XFree86] Dell 20" LCD (FP2000) / Geforce 4 Ti4600 / RedhatLinux Phoebe (beta 3) -- boot installer issue

2003-03-07 Thread Mark Vojkovich
   The "nv" driver that comes with XFree86 only supports DVI in
version 4.3. Even then, you may need to put
   Option "FlatPanel"
  and/or
   Option "CrtcNumber" "1"
in the Section "Device" of the XF86Config.

   The driver will try to detect a flat panel and will usually be
sucessful if the core XFree86 code was able to read the monitor's
EDID, but the driver has a hard time detecting on which head it
should be looking for it. Improving detection of this is an area
of future work in the "nv" driver.

XFree86 4.3.0 with FreeBSD port patches version -11.

I'm testing 4.3.0 to get support for the Intel I830 (it's only in
4.3.0), with 4.2.x I was using VESA support which is, well, slow
and somewhat cranky.

It seems to work ok generally, I can start X and kill it and it seems
fine, but if I try and switch virtual terminals while it's running I
lose anything reasonable. Screen is corrupted, graphics all over the
place, if I try and switch back to the X vty I get a black screen,
blank other than sometime getting the mouse pointer back for a while.

Once X has died I can't use the console. All vtys are corrupted and
the only way I've found to reset them is to reboot (vidcontrol does
nothing).

In the logs I get;

[XFree86] All of these "can't open fixed font" problems.

2003-03-07 Thread Mark Vojkovich
   In case it's not obvious from the amount of bug reports we
get about font servers not running, it's a big mistake if programs
that are generating XF86Config files rely solely on a font server.
I think they should all be including font paths. You can list a
font server first if you want, but if you would have listed
explict font paths after it, it would eliminate several bug reports
a day.

[XFree86] Not using Default Visual

2003-03-07 Thread Pascual Castellon Gadea
Hi!

I am trying to create an X Window not using the default Visual. To do
such thing, I select my prefered Visual with the
XGetVisualInfo function.

Then I want to use the ´visual´ and ´depth´ fields in the structure, to
open a Window. But unfortunatelly, the X-Server
always gives me a BadMatch Error. I also tried creating a Colormap
before the Window and giving it at creation time
through the XSetAttributes structure.

Here is the code that shows me the error message:

int main()

{
  Display   *display;
  Windowwindow,
parent;
  Colormap  colormap;
  XVisualInfo   *xvinfo;
  XVisualInfo   xvinfo_template;
  unsigned long mask;
  long  xvinfo_mask;
  int   nitems_return;
  XSetWindowAttributes  attributes;

  screen = XDefaultScreen(display);
  parent = XRootWindow (display,screen);

  xvinfo_template.screen = screen;
  xvinfo_template.depth  = 8;
  xvinfo_template.class  = PseudoColor;
  xvinfo_mask = (VisualScreenMask|VisualDepthMask|VisualClassMask);
  xvinfo =
XGetVisualInfo(display,xvinfo_mask,&xvinfo_template,&nitems_return);
  if (!nitems_return) {
 fprintf(stderr,"Can not find PseudoColor Visual");
  }

  colormap = XCreateColormap(display,parent,xvinfo[0].visual,AllocAll);

  mask = (CWBackingStore | CWEventMask | CWWinGravity | CWBackPixel |
CWBackingPixel | CWColormap );
  attributes.backing_store= Always;
  attributes.event_mask   = ExposureMask | StructureNotifyMask;
  attributes.win_gravity  = NorthWestGravity;
  attributes.background_pixel = XBlackPixel (display,screen);
  attributes.backing_pixel= XBlackPixel (display,screen);
  attributes.colormap = colormap;

  window = XCreateWindow (display,parent,x,y,width,height,borderw,
  xvinfo[0].depth,InputOutput,xvinfo[0].visual,
  mask,&attributes);

}
Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks in advance

   You probably have two glx in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions.
libglx.a and libglx.so. The .so takes precedence. If you remove
NVIDIA's .so from there, XFree86's .a will get used.

  It looks like you're just missing the border. I think it defaults
to CopyFromParent, which is a BadMatch if the parent if of a different
depth.

Right - you switched to 16 bpp color depth first :) 163 MHz is the
default i810 value for this depth.

Indeed.

> And here is the entire /var/log/XFree86.0.log - thanks again:

I must admit I don't immediately see anything wrong with it. My only
suspect is the 1280x960 mode - it's not a VESA mode, and it may well be
that the Xserver now chooses slightly different timings then your
previous system did, and the monitor "doesn't like" these particular
ones.

So I suggest trying one of the following:

 1) use 1280x1024 mode: it's quite standard, and most likely the monitor
has been factory tested for it
 2) copy over the timings from your former system
 3) (wild) search for a source of electromagnetic interference and move
away from it (can be your UPS or speakers, etc. E.g. the floppy
drive in my box, standing half a meter away from the monitor,
clearly interferes with it when used).

Hope that'll help,
  Roman.

OK, that's better

I'll need to rescusitate a corpse for that.

The squiggle persists. Can't pin this one down. And ... Why would this
NOT occur to the same monitor when running W2K, shared by a KVM?

Thanks.

Apparently you do need the ddx module from matrox, not just the hal
module, for the hal module to work properly. I had removed the building
of the matrox ddx module based on my understanding that the XFree
distributed source worked fine with the hal, which was wrong. The ideal
thing would be if someone could figure out what the important changes
are in the matrox version compared to the xfree86 one so we could just
make a patch.

Another alternative would be to make an mga_driver port like the
nvidia_driver port that built and installed the necessary parts as
alternative drivers. People could install it if they chose and wouldn't
require flags in the XFree86-Server port, which I'm not a fan of.

Note that for now, building/installing of the matrox distributed drivers
has been removed from the 4.3 ports.

Judging from the discussion that this spawned, I'd say you have a few
symbolic links missing in /lib (/usr/lib actually) or /usr/local/lib.

[XFree86] Why is the "CrtScreen" option missing in the 4.3.0 radeon driver?

2003-03-07 Thread Daniel Albuschat
Hi,

I've already asked Marc Aurele La France this question, who maintains
the ATI driver.

He told me to post my question to this address, so here it goes:

/me wrote:

[...]
I'm using a radeon 8500 (from hercules) video adapter and just
upgraded XFree86 from 4.2.99 to 4.3.0.
When I first tried to use the ati driver in 4.2.x I ran into
the problem, that my monitor was not detected correctly.
I got the error message
| (EE) RADEON(0): No valid mode found for this DFP/LCD
although I had just a CRT screen connected to the vga output.
I had a look at the log file and it said I should try
Option "CrtScreen" in my XFree86Config... and it worked
well for me.

It seems that in version 4.3.0 of XFree86 this option has been
removed from the radeon driver and I'm getting the same error
message as above when I try to start X11. (No valid mode...)

On the XFree86 webpage I found the option "crt_screen" in the
ATI Adapters README file.
This option doesn't work as well. ;(

Why has this option been removed and how do I set up
X11 to work properly on my system?

I'm sending my XFree86Config and my XFree86.0.log as an attachement.
The commented part is a relict from the fglrx driver test, that
didn't work well with 4.2.x and doesn't work with 4.3.0 at all.

thanks,
   Daniel

I had the same problem with XFree86 built from the ports on my -CURRENT.
The only way I was able to solve this problem was to CVS XFree86 HEAD and
build it.

I CVS-ed 4.2.99.something at the time.

There is a diff somewhere for the FreeBSD ports system that allows you to
download the 4.3.0 sources and install them.

Re: [XFree86] installation of X on Redhat Linux 8.0

2003-03-07 Thread William G. Lea
I didn't have any problems with RH 8.0. I installed a clean system and
all the updates so RH8 was as correct as possible. Then I made a
directory for X4.3 and checked it out of the repository with CVS. Next
I ran the makeworld and install scripts. Everything seemed to work
right out of the box so to speak. Well, I had a struggle with the X
config file because of the radeon 9000 card I'm running.

However, if this procedure DOESN'T work for YOU, I can't help because
I'm not very good at Linux, just lucky. I'd say just try it out, but be
ready to reinstall your system...

[XFree86] Radeon 9700 Pro, FreeBSD 4.7, and XFree86 4.3.0

2003-03-07 Thread Douglas de Leeuw

I have just installed XFree86 4.3.0 on my computer running
FreeBSD 4.7.

I am having 2 problems with the Radeon 9700Pro. MB ASUS
P4B533 512 RAM

1- When I run WindowMaker or Gnome
the pressing the alpha keys cause the screen to go blank and the resolution to
change.

However, pressing the numeric keys cause no problem and are
the numbers are displayed correctly.

2- The XFree86.log file shows that the display is defaulting
to 8 bit graphics and virtual colour.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I'm not familiar with vector linux, but if they don't supply the updated
dri modules you need you'll probably have to build them from source.
You'll have to build a kernel to do this but you should probably do that
anyway;)
You can find plenty of usefull information about DRI at

and can find build instructions for the modules at

[XFree86] ATI radeon All In Wonder in 4.3.0 makes monitor go blank.

2003-03-07 Thread Espinosa Soley, Arturo

Hi all,

Up until 4.2.1 my card / monitor were working just fine.  I've
installed a set of binaries of xfree 4.3.0 for debian Woody, and although my
xfree86 logfile reports no errors at all, the monitor blanks just when I start

I have no idea what to look for here, as the log looks clean.

Any hints as to what I should look for? Anyone with a similar

Re: [XFree86] Why is the "CrtScreen" option missing in the 4.3.0 radeon driver?

2003-03-07 Thread hy0
CrtScreen option was introduced in X4.20 to let the mode validation routine
for flat panel to fall back to the standard CRT routine. While it solved
some problems, it also caused quite a few nasty problems on certain panels
(especially on laptop panels). After X4.20, with better mode routines for
flat panels merged into CVS, this option was removed. About that time, a lot
of OEM cards started showing up on the market. Some of these cards have the
monitor detection problem (caused by inconsistent BIOS rules) as you've
experienced. The CrtScreen option in the older versions actually helped to
workaround this problem in some cases (as you did), although it's not
originally intended for this option. To properly solve the monitor detection
problem, a patch was put together later. Unfortunally, with time running
out, the patch was too big to be merged in for X4.30 release. This leaves
the monitor detection problem for certain OEM cards unsolved.

Hopefully we can get the proper solution for this problem into CVS in the
near future. Meanwhile you probably have to stay with the version that
worked for you.

Thanks for that.

I downloaded the binaries: Linux-ix86-glibc22 (which is probably my first
mistake)

I've just checked ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.3.0/binaries/ and
confusingly I see there are now

Linux-ix86-glibc21
Linux-ix86-glibc23

I guess my first question is: Which glib do I need for Red Hat v8 (what are
the differences?)
Second question: After installation and configuration of the glib22 files
my system starts X *BUT* all I get is a background with a little windows in
the bottom right hand
corner saying: var log, and continuously scrolling up the screen.

I can STARTX and all appears fine, I can run xf86cfg and change the various
settings, but whereas I used to boot into the blue KDE logon screen all I
get is the above.

The logs report a missing GLIDE file, but apart from that all seems well.

Re: [XFree86] problem plz reply soon

2003-03-07 Thread Jesse Hutton
Some distros make it so that the super user cannot access the Xserver.
In such a case, trying to start up any application in X as root will give
you this error:

 Xlib: connection to "localhost:0.0" refused by server
 Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server

There are a number of ways to get around this. Try exporting
XAUTHORITY=/.Xauthority as root before executing
xhost, for example.

[XFree86] Dell 20" LCD (FP2000) / Geforce 4 Ti4600 / Redhat Linux Phoebe (beta 3) -- boot installer issue

2003-03-07 Thread Shane Smart
I recently downloaded the 3 ISO's for Redhat Linux Phoebe which is now in
stage 3 of its beta phase. My gaming rig, which has a Geforce 4 Ti4600 video
card and a Dell 20" FP2000 LCD display. Upon booting up from the CD image,
my monitor goes into "out of sync" or "idle/safe mode". The bugzilla forums
for the beta, told me to contact XFree86 on this issue. Others have had this
issue with similar specs. People can boot Phoebe 3 fine with VGA
connections, but when they tried to boot Phoebe3 with a DVI connection their
monitor would shut-off. Here is the bugzilla bug thread for this odd bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84834

Also, a side note - Redhat Linux (Psyche) 8.0 had no issues with this.

[XFree86] XIM protocol error in libX11

2003-03-07 Thread Dave Williss
I've run across a problem in the XIM protocol as implemented by imTrX.c
(libX11)
and have a possible solution. I don't know who to send this to, so I'm
sending it
to both the i18n list and the xpert list

The function _XimXFilterWaitEvent() is called in the event filter (hence the
name :-)
A problem arises if _XimReadData() leaves data in the hold_data buffer. The
next
call to _XimXFilterWaitEvent() will end up calling XimReadData() which will
use
what's in the hold_data buffer instead of what was in the event, causing the
event
to get ignored. I have a case where this happens and the next event after
the one
being ignored is the 2nd half of a packet that got split up. Since it's got
no header,
it thinks the thing is really huge and things go Boom! (to use the technical
term)

The solution to this appears to be to modify _XimXFilterWaitEvent() as
follows...

Private Bool
_XimXFilterWaitEvent(d, w, ev, arg)
Display *d;
Window  w;
XEvent *ev;
XPointer  arg;
{
Xim   im = (Xim)arg;
XSpecRec *spec = (XSpecRec *)im->private.proto.spec;
Bool ret;

spec->ev = (XPointer)ev;
ret = _XimFilterWaitEvent(im);

/*
 * If ev is a pointer to a stack variable, there could be
 * a coredump later on if the pointer is dereferenced.
 * Therefore, reset to NULL to force reinitialization in
 * _XimXRead().
 *
 * Keep in mind _XimXRead may be called again when the stack
 * is very different.
 */
 spec->ev = (XPointer)NULL;

   /* BEGIN MODIFICATION ***/
/*
 * Don't leave stuff in hold_data while processing events or we'll
 * end up skipping an event - This would be bad!
 */
 while (im->private.proto.hold_data != NULL) {
  ret = _XimFilterWaitEvent(im);
 }
   /* END MODIFICATION ***/

 return ret;
}

Ideally, it should check the ret value and return if there's an error,

[XFree86] Dell 20" LCD (FP2000) / Geforce 4 Ti4600 / Redhat Linux Phoebe (beta 3) -- boot installer issue

2003-03-07 Thread Shane Smart

XFree86-

Thanks for your time. I recently downloaded the 3 ISO’s for Redhat
Linux Phoebe which is now in stage 3 of its beta phase. My gaming rig, which
has a Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card and a Dell 20” FP2000 LCD display. Upon
booting up from the CD image, my monitor goes into “out of sync” or
“idle/safe mode”. The bugzilla forums for the beta, told me to
contact XFree86 on this issue. Others have had this issue with similar specs.
People can boot Phoebe 3 fine with VGA connections, but when they tried to boot
Phoebe3 with a DVI connection their monitor would shut-off. Here is the bugzilla
bug thread for this odd bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84834

Thanks again, hope to hear from you a.s.a.p,

Shane Smart

Also, a side note – Redhat Linux (Psyche) 8.0 had no issues with
this.
