Re: [XFree86] Fail to boot into X, please help
I downloaded XFree86 4.3.0 and installed it on my machine, overwrite every config files and binary. still crash Any Idea? If that is the case, could you or anyone point me to a document that can tell me how to fix it or how to change the X login program. Final it show up a dialog in text mode with a sentence, "Failed to start display server serval times in a short period; disabling display :0" attachments are my XFree86 log file and config , Your log doesn't indicate a failure. In fact, it doesn't even show the server exiting, as if the server was up and running at the time you copied it. One idea comes to mind... maybe your server is working but your X login program (xdm, kdm, etc.) either isn't there or exits immediately (crash?). That will cause your server to give all appearances of crashing without giving any errors in the log.

Hello evrybody, I installed xfree86 on Mac Os X 10.2.6, it seams working fine except this too points when an X windows is generated on the screen: 1- when I try to handle the windows and move it, the windows doesn't follow the mouse movement. It moves only when the mouse button go up, 2- I don't find any way to resize the windows after creation. Thank you for your help. [XFree86] Problems with the nv driver.
Hello I have a problem that seems to be related to the nv driver. When I move the text cursor around in text edit fields in certain apps (Evolution and Mozilla come to mind), the area it moved from isn't redrawn properly, and marks from the cursor are left all over the place. This obviously makes the text hard to read, and even though it can be temporarily fixed by moving the window outside the screen and back, it is very annoying. The reason why i think this is a problem with the nv driver, is that the closed source nvidia driver doesn't have a similar problem (but it sure has others). Has anyone else experienced this, or are there anyone who knows of a way to fix it? My graphics card is a fairly recent Geforce 4 Ti4200, I'm running XFree86 version 4.2.1, and my configuration file looks like this: ### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION # XF86Config-4 (XFree86 server configuration file) generated by dexconf, the # Debian X Configuration tool, using values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page. # (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.) # # If you want your changes to this file preserved by dexconf, only make changes # before the "### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION" line above, and/or after the # "### END DEBCONF SECTION" line below. # # To change things within the debconf section, run the command: # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 # as root. Also see "How do I add custom sections to a dexconf-generated # XF86Config or XF86Config-4 file?" in /usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ.gz. But something is happening when you load the ddc module. Both of the logs that you sent yesterday ended at that point. You may want to look into what is happening with the DDC module, you might want to try not loading it and see what happens. Or maybe not. [XFree86] Radeon 9800
Hi everybody. I'm a Linux user but also a videogames addicted so now I'd like to replace my old Geforce4 Ti4600 with the new ATI monster to improve my fragging experience ;). I would like to know to what extent this card works (or not works) under linux. I don't care much about 3D under linux but I'd like good 2D image & some windows acceleration. ATI official site doesn't have specific drivers and XFree 4.3 stable release I understood works good up to the 9700. I downloaded latest development release and CHANGELOG speaks of support for ATI 9x00 cards. Is x = 8 valid? ;) Emilio Get advanced SPAM filtering on Webmail or POP Mail ... Re: [XFree86] mga on 4.3.0?
Hi, Thanks for the suggestion, I updated my BIOS to no avail. The following is what I receive when running an OpenGL program that uses textures: Failed to upload texture, sz 32768 Memory heap (nil): heap == 0 End of memory blocks Failed to upload texture, sz 32768 Memory heap (nil): heap == 0 End of memory blocks Failed to upload texture, sz 131072 Memory heap (nil): heap == 0 End of memory blocks Failed to upload texture, sz 32768 And the textures in the program are all corrupted. This worked prior to XFree86 4.3.0 (using the unofficial Debian packages). Any ideas? On Sun, Jun 08, 2003 at 06:12:51AM -0400, Donald E. [XFree86] mga and interlace
I am running XFree86 4.3.0 as built and distributed by Red Hat 9.0 except the mga 2.1 drivers from Matrox mga, mga_drv and mga_dri. I am having trouble outputing interlaced. Is this simply not supported by the Matrox driver or hardware? I am trying to output 1080i HDTV sync timings via analog VGA (the signaling is VGA like most modern HD set top tuners, only the timings are TV standards, so this isn't a TV out issue). North American 1080i signals are 33.75k horz, 60.00 vert interlaced, around 1125 total lines with 1080 active lines. If this is a limitation of the Matrox card, is there a well supported card which is able to do this? My modeline looks like this (closest I was able to get to the timings): Modeline"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" 77.60 1920 1952 2240 2272 1080 1104 1110 1135 interlace Which seems to cause: (II) MGA(1): Not using mode "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" (bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan) And the complete output from the server looks like this: XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.3.0-2) Release Date: 27 February 2003 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6 Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.20-3bigmem i686 [ELF] Build Date: 27 February 2003 Build Host: porky.devel.redhat.com Before reporting problems, check http://www.XFree86.Org/ to make sure that you have the latest version. Re: [XFree86] Linux 9 and video card
Intergraph did high end PC workstation cards before 3Dlabs bought them years ago. I don't believe XFree86 ever supported any of their cards natively, though it looks like there's a cheap cirrus logic chip on the board for VGA compatibility. You can probably get that working with some low resolution 8 bit modes using the CIRRUS driver (try 800x600 in 8 bits per pixel), but that's about it. Really you're probably better off getting a newer video card. While that card was probably pretty hot in its day, it's not likely to hold up too well against modern video cards. www.xig.com might have a commercial X-server that still supports this card, but I suspect that for the cost of a commercial X-server you could buy a card that's faster than the 3410T and is supported by XFree86.
