AW: [XFree86] XFree86 4.2.1 on Toshiba Sattelite 4090XCDT
When I upgrade to XFree86 4.3.0 I still get the same problem. Perhaps somebody who wrote the driver knows what was change from 4.1 to 4.2!? Can you give me any information or suggestion about the files' structure of XFree86 or how to reduce the XFree86? Thanks Tom
Re: [XFree86] (no subject)
The problem lies with the Nvidia nforce chipset utilised with the Asus A7n266-VM motherboard. I have the same mobo and am using the same version of Redhat Linux. To fix this problem you need to first install in text mode, taking care NOT to install/setup the Xserver first. Then, get hold of audio and video drivers from the Nvidia website and do the needful. [XFree86] Can't run startx, KDE, GNOME
I cannot get startx or any GUI to work. When I type startx my monitor shuts off and my computer freezes. I can't reboot it or anything -- the only way to get out of it is to manually turn the computer off. I tried a different monitor and that made no difference. I'm running Mandrake 9.1 on a Celeron 500 with a Radeon 7000 32MB PCI card. For whatever reason, I cannot get X server to work at all. If I type startkde I get the following error message: xmodmap: unable to open display "xmodmap: unable to open display "xset: unable to open display ""startkde: starting upksplash: cannot connect to X serverkdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set.Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directoryksmserver: cannot connect to X serverstartkde: shutting down...Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directoryError: Can't contact kdeinit!startkde: Running shutdown scripts...startkde: Done. If I try to start GNOME, I get the monitor shutdown thing, same as with startx. I have a total of two days worth of Linux/Unix experience, so I am baffled and I need someone to really hold my hand. I checked at ati.com for Linux drivers, and supposedly Mandrake 9.1 has XFree86 4.3, which supposedly already has a radeon driver. Any suggestions?

Re: [XFree86] Error Message Help
Any client which wants to talk to the server needs to have authorization to do so. X is a network transparent window system and it's what keeps *me* from popping windows up on *your* server. It also keeps other processes on your system (potentially owned by other users) from displaying or getting information from the screen. That's what's happening in this case since it's rejecting from "localhost". Whatever is trying to connect to your server doesn't have authorization to do so. I would guess it's a bug in your display manager or a script related to it. Also, some apps like xscreensaver can have this problem if you are running as root. See the man page on xhost. Mark. Re: [XFree86] crash on exiting XFree with xinerama
My guess is that this would be a driver problem with the one of the cards and is probably not a configuration issue. Which screen is the primary? Ie, which screen does the machine boot up on? If you can go into your motherboard bios and switch those around, you may have better luck with it. Some drivers have problems when they are the secondary card. Mark. [XFree86] Help enabling X extensions, Xrunner program
Title: Help enabling X extensions, Xrunner program I am trying to get my X test suite running on RedHat 9.0/XFree86 4.3.0 on an IBM 225 eServer (Xeon) w/ onboard ATI Mach64 card. Currently I have added "Load" lines to the Module Section of my XF86Config file, however I cannot seem to get XTestExtension1 recognized as a valid extension. I downloaded the source of XFree86 and it appears like code from XTestExtension1 is bound into libXext.so but how do I enable it? No library file exists in ./usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions so how does it get enabled? The root problem I am trying to debug is that I cannot seem to get "Mouse playback" working with my Xrunner product to the XFree86 screen. Playback works on another propriety X11R6.6-based Xserver(same HW, RH9.0) I have limited access to. It has the XTestExtension1. Unfortunately, my Xrunner is running on an old Tru64 unix box and the version is 6 years old, so I no longer have any support. Any help appreciated, Erik Reference data below... [XFree86] crash on exiting XFree with xinerama
Dear Users and Experts, my machine has the following problem. Re: [XFree86] No window
You probably clobered the init file in which you started whichever window manager you were using. The file is usually .initrc (I am not sure, I am not on my linux mobo) but it can be something else (I believe RH uses .Clients or something like that...) depending on your distro Lionel --- Stephane Corbe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello, > > I tried to upgrade from 4.3.0 to the cvs snapshot, but I have problem : > > I started X just by typing "X" so I have the X background and the mouse. > From another console I typed "export DISPLAY=:0" and "xclock" : > nothing is printed on the console, nothing is displayed on the X screen. > There's no error on the console, in log/message nor XFree0log. > > This is exactly the same behavior with other X app, everybody seems happy but I > never saw a > window ... > > Stephane > > > # XFree86 4 configuration created by redhat-config-xfree86 > > Section "ServerLayout" > Identifier "Default Layout" > Screen "Screen0" > InputDevice"Mouse0" "CorePointer" > InputDevice"Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" > InputDevice"DevInputMice" "AlwaysCore" > EndSection > > Section "Files" > > # RgbPath is the location of the RGB database. [XFree86] No window
Hello, I tried to upgrade from 4.3.0 to the cvs snapshot, but I have problem : I started X just by typing "X" so I have the X background and the mouse. From another console I typed "export DISPLAY=:0" and "xclock" : nothing is printed on the console, nothing is displayed on the X screen. There's no error on the console, in log/message nor XFree0log. This is exactly the same behavior with other X app, everybody seems happy but I never saw a window ... Re: [XFree86] compiling XFree86 4.3.0 and matrox drivers 2.1
I am confronted with a similar problem I understood that, according to this list, one should use the X 4.2 Matrox drivers instead of the ones for 4.3 I would be interested to have that confirmed Lionel --- Ian Romanick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > I have downloaded the XFree86 4.3.0 source code and the mgadrivers-2.1-src > > from matrox's web site. Re: [XFree86] XFree86 errors.
first check on your log which version of X you run (RH 7.3 has both 3.3.6 and 4.1 if I remember well) Check in the same log whether it uses XF86Config or XF86Config-4 Then look in the appropriate file whether there is a Section Keyboard if yes this is a 3.3.6 config file if not it is a X 4.x config file, does it fit with what you are running? (probably not from the error message) use Xconfigurator to generate an appropriate config file for that version of RH...
