FAQ Topic: I have an S3 graphics card, which driver should I use ?

There are three drivers for S3 graphics chipsets:
The S3 driver, which supports some of the Trio64 and older chipsets
(use: Driver "s3", for details check s3),

the S3 Virge driver which supports the S3 Virge and S3 Trio3D chipsets
(use: Driver "s3virge", for details check s3virge),

the Savage driver which supports most of the S3 Savage chipsets (use:
Driver "savage", for details check "savage"]).

Re: [XFree86] Drivers Matrox G550 DVI

2003-12-10 Thread Lionel Lecoq
You should give some info on your monitor which distribution you have and possibly
post your
XF86config...
I myself have a G550 with a Samsung SyncMaster 181T which I drive with DVI and have
few problems.
I have a console login (just in case problems occur) and use startx, sometimes it
takes a bit of
time for X to come up and it has happened that I just canceled it and typed startx
again it then
started much faster...
The problem may also be with the combination G550 / monitor because I have two similar
setups
(G550 + 181T) and on one of them the monitor must be switched off and on from time to
time, it
seems to lose the signal this as well with w2k as with Linux...
cheers
Lionel

[XFree86] drivers

2003-07-07 Thread Dgariw
How do I get the update to drivers for the S3 Virge-dx/gx pci (375/385)

[XFree86] Please help me understand conceptually how xfree86 drivers work

2003-06-16 Thread Josh Brooks
Hello,

I have purchased a new matrox p750. I have tried to make it work using:

driver=mga

and that does not work at all - I have only been successful in starting X
and working in X by using:

driver=vga

--

Now, tell me if I understand how all this works correctly.

First, the mga driver obviously just doesn't understand the new matrox
p750 (I get errors about "no devices present"). So that is why vga will
work, but "mga" will not.

Second, matrox has made a p750 linux driver available - it includes sample
xf86config lines and a linux kernel module, etc., to make it work - now I
am running on FreeBSD, so can I assume that in some amount of time,
someone will incorporate the functionality of the matrox p750 driver into
the _general_ mga driver, and when that happens I can then use the mga
driver under FreeBSD, using all of the special config lines shown on
matrox's site for Xfree ?

Or do I misunderstand how all of this works ?

If I am correct, then I also wonder, has this procedure already started ?
Has someone already startd incorporating the new matrox p750 driver code
into the general mga driver ?

Thankd.

Title: RE: [XFree86] drivers

XFree86 in version 4.2.1 is availabel for download from the XFree86.org website.

so far that i know there is no individual driver download but only the full package.

If you do have installed Linux from a CD set (like RedHat, SuSE, whatever)
then those drivers are still availabel on the CD, use the respective tools.

If you do have installed from your very own compiled sources,
then just compile again and install again.

sory for that many cases, you didnt gave any hints on what sort of system you are having.
