[xmail] Filter on 'Subject' line

2011-12-20 Thread Gary Bainbridge
My ISP has changed its spam detection policy, such that instead of
diverting incoming spam to a different mailbox, it now simply adds the
word 'SPAM:' to the header.

At present I can filter on this basis within my email client, but for
various reasons it would be better to do this within Xmail.

Is there any way within Xmail to detect this addition to the subject line
and use it to divert the email to a 'spam bucket' address.

I can't see any reference to the subject line within the Xmail
documentation.

It's worth mentioning that I have Xmail running on an ARM based server so
I can't make use of any external x86 programs.

Gary.

 Roundcube is not an option

If you want an alternative to Roundcube, try NOCC.

It's what I have on my server. Written purely in PHP, it can be a little
slow, but then I'm only using a very low power server. It may be faster
on yours.

It's still there. although a shadow of its former self.

Anyway I can't see an actual mail loop, it's just the
large number of received headers. I had problems with
some mailing lists and just increased MaxMTAOps from
 default of 16. It's now at 28.

Yes thanks, I have now done that and the stuck emails have now been
released. Strange that it should affect only some emails though.

Thanks to both you and Davide,
  Gary.

P.S. Apologies if you've received more than one version of this email.
The first that I sent seemed to bounce.

[xmail] Mail loops

2010-03-02 Thread Gary Bainbridge
I've been using quite an old version of xmail (1.25) quite successfully
for a couple of years on a Synology server.

It's been very reliable, but I get the odd message which sticks in the
spool with the following error:

ErrCode = -163
ErrString = Mail loop detected
Message blocked by mail loop check !
SMTP-Error = 554 Message blocked by mail loop check

The thing is that I can't see why a mail loop has occurred as it was
simply an incoming message to me.

So my two questions are, can anyone explain why these messages get stuck
when many other messages from the same senders get through?

Secondly, is there any way to get these messages out of the spool? Simply
resubmitting the email (using PHPXmail) doesn't help as the message
simply gets marked with the same error again and stays in the spool.

Below is the header from one of the problem emails. Just to explain, my
..com domain is the address of my server, whereas the .co.uk domain is
handled by my ISP who scan the email for spam, then forward it to my .com
address.

[xmail] Bounces

2009-02-21 Thread Gary Bainbridge
Since a change of mail address (unrelated to xmail) some of my email from
a particular mailing list is being bounced with the following message:

110 02/10 02/20 g...@bainb.com
Last error: 5.6.1 554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by
Remote Host

Does this look like a message from xmail or is it possibly from a server
somewhere upstream?

I don't understand why the body type would be relevant to xmail, not that
there's anything different about it anyway.

Xmail is handling my other mail without any problems.

Gary.

Re: [xmail] Enabling SPF howto?

2009-01-29 Thread Gary Bainbridge
In article 498198a5.1020...@amitrader.com, r...@amitrader.com (Ralf)
wrote:

Hmm... I think there are some misunderstandings here.

Possibly. My understanding was that SPF stopped emails coming from what
was apparently the wrong server for the domain.

e.g. my email address is g...@bainb.co.uk. If I send any email it has
that 'From' address, no matter which server I send it through.

If I send this via the server where my domain is registered - in my case
my own server, but previously the server belonging to my ISP - then it is
accepted.

However if I send an email with my 'From' address (g...@bainb.co.uk) via
my cellphone company's server then it will be rejected by the recipient
as that server is not in my domain's DNS record. Note that I have to use
their server if I send an email via my phone (at least that's true unless
I use my own webmail).

From the OpenSPF website:

When an AOL user sends mail to you, an email server that belongs to AOL
connects to an email server that belongs to you. AOL uses SPF to publish
the addresses of its email servers. When the message comes in, your
email servers can tell if the server on the other end of the connection
belongs to AOL or not.

Have I misunderstood?

Gary.

Re: [xmail] Web Mail

2009-01-13 Thread Gary Bainbridge
With my ARM-based Linux server I'm currently using NOCC (nocc.sourceforge.net)
which is PHP based and runs reasonably fast considering that it's on quite a
slow server. On a modern PC it should fly.
But there are plenty of native PC-based alternatives. One of the best that I've
come across is DeskNow (www.filetransit.com).

Probably asked 100 times but I need a decent webmail product to use with
xmail on Windows. Does SquirrelMail work? What other suggestions are
there? Basic read, send mail and address book
