[xmail] Re: XMail web frontend

2006-10-24 Thread Joe Harrell
Hi,

I've used this method. Setting up Courier IMAP was a bit of a challenge,
though once that's setup the setup of Squirrelmail is easy.

[xmail] Re: IMAP Support?

2006-07-18 Thread Joe Harrell
After serious crying and wailing, I managed to get Courier running with
XMail, but had to knaw off my leg to do it...

Once you manage to get it installed and configured, it works like a charm,
but it's not for the faint at heart.

[xmail] Re: Arrrgh! New setup not working.....

2006-05-05 Thread Joe Harrell
Hi,

Actually, it turns out that there was a kernel update that I picked up a day
or so ago, when I booted just for yucks using the old kernel everything
started working. Booted up using the current kernel and everything was
messed up again. Check for updates and picked up another kernel update this
evening and everything works fine on that as well. Must have been something
screwy with that kernel update.

It just about drove me crazy but everything's working great now, the only
change being that kernel update.

[xmail] Arrrgh! New setup not working.....

2006-05-05 Thread Joe Harrell
Fedora Core 5, XMail 1.22, new setup for each. Transferred settings for an
existing, working XMail 1.21 server on Fedora 4, but the new setup isn't
working properly. Problems with POP mail retrieval and sending mail out to
the world via my ISP so I was hoping for some help.

The POP is hanging when trying to get mail, I can telnet in, list messages
and see the ones waiting but a RETR doesn't return anything and I lose
connection eventually.

SMTP, I've set up to send out via my ISP (though I have tried letting it
send it straight out with same effect) but after trying for a while it gives
a -162 End of socket stream data and a 417 Temporary delivery error. After
doing that a bunch of times, it gives up with an Authentication error.

I can receive e-mails from the outside fine, I can send e-mails to local
addresses fine and running debug doesn't tell me much, nothing with the POP
error other than it's connected and disconnected, and the delivery attempt
and errors with the SMTP problem which happens whether it tries to go
through the ISP or straight out.

When I swap back to the old server, everything works fine and I've gone over
the settings a million times and the look the same.

Any suggestions on what to look at next?

[xmail] Best IMAP for Xmail?

Since there has been no hint of when IMAP support might be ever be available
in XMail, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which of the
available methods of interfacing IMAP support in with XMail is the best.
Would you recommend one over the other?

[xmail] Re: messages to yahoo and or hotmail does not get delivered

2005-08-30 Thread Joe Harrell
No, not "all", I had this problem with Hotmail/MSN and worked around it the
same way as the others by using another SMTP server. Actually ended up
sending out everything that way, rather than fight with those that won't go
on a case by case basis.
Running Linux (Fedora) and current version of Xmail.

[xmail] Re: Problems with hotmail.com

2005-04-11 Thread Joe Harrell
This error continues to occur until it reaches maximum retries. I
must have "defrosted" the message about 3 times and had it do the same
thing before setting it up so that XMail sent it through my ISP, which
it did on the first try.

I have limited time to spend running tests and stuff on this, it's
only a "hobby". But if anyone has anything specific they'd like me to
run, let me know.

BTW, this is intermittant, I'm pretty sure I've been able to send
stuff to my hotmail address through this server in the past.

[xmail] Re: Problems with hotmail.com

2005-04-07 Thread Joe Harrell
Not intending to start this thread up again, but everything I've read
on the subject says this is somehow Windows related but I'm having a
similar problem delivering to hotmail.com and msn.com, but my XMail
(1.20) server is on Linux .

I was getting this error as it cycles through the MX's.

ErrCode   = -5
ErrString = Timeout error
SMAIL SMTP-Send MX = "mx4.hotmail.com." SMTP = "sougent.com" From =
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" To = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Failed !
SMTP-Error = "417 Temporary delivery error"
SMTP-Server = "mx4.hotmail.com."

I've worked around it by forwarding all mail to hotmail or MSN through
my ISP but it'd be nice to know what's going on.

Heavy mail traffic? I wouldn't call the traffic heavy. I'll look at
the logs though because I suspect it's something along these lines.
Is there a way to change the timeout value?

I noticed that SA starts before XMail does, does it make any
difference in which order they start?

Probably so.

I'm running a Spamassassin filter, I was thinking that Spamassassin
might have been causing it, that's the only filter I'm running.
However, I only stopped XMail and not Spamassassin when I finally got
rid of them so I kinda wonder if something with the interaction
between the two was causing the problem.

If it starts doing it again, I'll try disabling Spamassassin and see
if that does anything.

2004-07-07 Thread Joe Harrell
Even better, I deleted the stuck messages (except for the one in 18/0
that I referred to below) using XQM and they all re-appeared, I
brought down the XMail server and then deleted them again (except the
one), and then brought Xmail back up again. They stayed gone and when
I retrieved my mail, it downloaded the one I didn't delete and it's
gone now from the server too.

We'll see if they stay gone.

I find only the message itself in spool/18/0/mess/ but there is
nothing else for this message.

[xmail] Stuck Messages

2004-07-07 Thread Joe Harrell
Hi,

I'm running XMail 1.20 on Fedora and have had a group of about 15
messages spanning several days (06/28 - 07/03) and they just refuse
to go away, I keep picking them up when I retrieve my mail (Pop).
Funny thing is that I don't get them every time, I'll get them a few
times then I won't for a while, then I'll get them again.

I just downloaded XMail Queue Manager and see them in there, they
appear to be normal messages. I can delete them, but just curious if
this is something that's happened to anyone else?

Thanks,

Joe
