[xmail] Question/Suggestion about smtp logs and CustMapsList or spammers. tab

2008-09-29 Thread CLEMENT Francis

Hello Davide

Actually I have CustMapsList settings with :0, meaning wait for auth
before reject

In this configuration, each time a sender is in the 'rbl', and it does not
'auth' I have two entries in smtp logs, sample entries :

mx.groupeab.com   mx.groupeab.com   201.78.167.81 2008-09-27
00:02:01   20178167081.user.veloxzone.com.br
[EMAIL PROTECTED] SNDRIP=EIPMAP
(zen.spamhaus.org)   0
mx.groupeab.com   mx.groupeab.com   201.78.167.81 2008-09-27
00:02:01   20178167081.user.veloxzone.com.br
  SMTP=EERRS  0

Can we avoid to have the two entries in this case (rbl and no auth coming)
but only the first
(and of course, none generated at all if auth was coming as wanted)

I ask this because with this :0 setting, log files grow very fast, and the
second line is not really helpfull when generating reports, ... (need to
verify if the SMTP=EERRS have a corresponding previous EIPMAP entry before
skiping it, complicating the reporting script, slowing it, ...)

Same think then the ip is in spammers.tab with code=0 option

Your opinion ?

Thanks

Francis

[xmail] Question about spam-address.tab filtering

2008-09-15 Thread Stefano Pascucci
Hi all

I have noticed an annoying problem regarding spam-address filtering.

If I'm not wrong, it seems that email address filtering is processed
using the from email address extracted from the Received:...
header tag.

If that assumption is right, if I put into the spam-address.tab file
any email address simply picked up from the From: header tag, any
message coming from this email address will be filtered really out
_only_ if that specific address is exactly the same one that we can
find inside the Received:.. header string.

I try to be more clear :-)

I have received one message containing these header strings (real
domains substituted):

- Received: from - snipped out - from
[EMAIL PROTECTED];
- From: zzz [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In that case, I had the [EMAIL PROTECTED] email address in my
spam-address.tab, but that email passed the filter anyway

Many spammers do that: is there a way to both check the Received:
and the From: email fields? it should be more restrictive.

I hope to have been clear enough...
Thank you in advance

[xmail] Question about Kernel 2.6

2006-02-15 Thread Chad Fleenor

I am currently running xmail on Redhat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-8. On
RedHat I had to insert the line export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4 into the
xmail startup file. I am currently working on moving my mail server to
a stronger box, running Suse 9 with kernel 2.6.5-7.97. Would I have to
take this line out or is there any known issues with XMail running on
this Kernel? My old mail server has been rock solid, currently with 385
days uptime.

Thanks for any feedback,
Chad

[xmail] Question

2005-08-24 Thread Jaques Metz
Hi, folks.

I've installed XMail 1.21 on a Linux Slackware 10.0, and configured it:

domain: domain.com
POP sync from pop.external-mailserver.com
SMTP fwd to smtp.external-mailserver.com

It's allright, but I have a problem: there are some users that doesn't exist in
XMail but ARE from domain.com. When users in XMail send mail to these users
XMail should forward mail to the external-mailserver, but, since these users
don't exist, XMail reject email, giving the unknown user error.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

[xmail] Question for Davide.. or a matter of fact for every developer on XMail

2005-04-14 Thread XTechie
Hi All,

According to *http://tinyurl.com/6g9ze,
###
*

If a message that has as target domain of '*sub1.sub2.domain.net*'
arrives at the XMail server, '*AND*' XMail does not have a real domain
'*sub1.sub2.domain.net*' inside its domain list, XMail decides if this
domain gets a custom domain processing by trying to lookup:

sub1.sub2.domain.net.tab
..sub2.domain.net.tab
..domain.net.tab
..net.tab
..tab

###
*
*Now this works very well when XMail is sending a mail, checkout this
code in SMAILUtils.cpp:

int USmlGetDomainMsgCustomFile(SPLF_HANDLE hFSpool, QUEUE_HANDLE hQueue,
   QMSG_HANDLE hMessage, char const *pszDestDomain,
   char *pszCustFilePath)
{
snip
..
..
..
/snip
///
// Check if this is a custom domain
///
char szCustDomainFile[SYS_MAX_PATH] = ;

if (USmlGetDomainCustomFile(pszDestDomain, szCustDomainFile)  0)
return (ErrGetErrorCode());

RLCK_HANDLE hResLock = RLckLockSH(szCustDomainFile);
snip
..
..
..
/snip
}

*However it works differently when XMail is receiving a mail for
delivery, that is if the destination domain is a custom domain:*
Checkout this code in SMTPSvr.cpp:

static int SMTPHandleCmd_RCPT(const char *pszCommand, BSOCK_HANDLE
hBSock, SMTPSession  SMTPS)
{
snip
..
..
..
/snip
///
//  Check FORWARD PATH
///
char *pszRealRcpt = NULL;
char *pszSMTPError = NULL;

if (SMTPCheckForwardPath(ppszFwdDomains, SMTPS, pszRealRcpt,
 pszSMTPError)  0) {
ErrorPush();
StrFreeStrings(ppszFwdDomains);

SMTPSendError(hBSock, SMTPS, %s, pszSMTPError);
SysFree(pszSMTPError);
return (ErrorPop());
}

StrFreeStrings(ppszFwdDomains);
snip
..
..
..
/snip
}

In above SMTPCheckForwardPath calls *USmlDomainCustomFileName* which is
_very similar_ to *USmlGetDomainCustomFile* in above, Checkout the diff
of two functions:

1c1
 int USmlDomainCustomFileName(char const *pszDestDomain, char
*pszCustFilePath)
---
 int USmlGetDomainCustomFile(char const *pszDestDomain, char
*pszCustFilePath)
12c12
 //  Build file name
---
 //  Lookup custom files
18c18,21
 SysSNPrintf(pszCustFilePath, SYS_MAX_PATH - 1, %s%s.tab,
szCustomDir, szDestDomain);
---
 for (char const *pszSubDom = szDestDomain; pszSubDom != NULL;
  pszSubDom = strchr(pszSubDom + 1, '.')) {
 SysSNPrintf(pszCustFilePath, SYS_MAX_PATH - 1, %s%s.tab,
szCustomDir,
 pszSubDom);
20c23,24
 return (0);
---
 if (SysExistFile(pszCustFilePath))
 return (0);
22c26,31
 }
---
 }

 SysSNPrintf(pszCustFilePath, SYS_MAX_PATH - 1, %s.tab,
szCustomDir);

 if (SysExistFile(pszCustFilePath))
 return (0);
23a33,36
 ErrSetErrorCode(ERR_NOT_A_CUSTOM_DOMAIN);
 return (ERR_NOT_A_CUSTOM_DOMAIN);

 }

Any clue why Custom Domain is different with respect to sending (SMAIL)/
receiving (SMTP) file ?
Thanks

[xmail] Question about spool file format change in 1.14

2004-05-29 Thread Bill Healy
Hi,

I'm upgrading an old Win32 server that's still on 1.7 to 1.18, what if
anything do I have to do to the spool files that are still in the old
format so that they will work with 1.18? I'm referring to all mail
files, those waiting to be delivered in the spool directories and the
mail in the domain user directories.

Hints and tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,
 Bill

[xmail] QUESTION ABOUT CUSTOM DOMAIN PROCESING

2004-02-12 Thread Daniel Serena
Hi.

  We've found and strange behaviour.
  If web set a rule for a domain in custdomins,
in order to do an SMTP relay for all the mails
of that domain, we've noticed that the Xmail
server don't send notices about unknown users.

  File in custdomains directory:  domain.com.tab
  Content of domain.com.tab:  smtprelaymailserver.name.com:25

  Basically it works. Any mail for that domain is being
resended by SMTP to the specified server.
  But if a mail was send to a non existen mail address in
domain.com, the mail is rejected with User Unknown by
the final SMTP server. In that case Xmail don't send
any mail telling that the mail wasn't delivered.

  If we do a redirect instead of smtprelay, the mail
with telling about the error is send by XMail.

  Can this be changed in any configuration file, in order
to send the mail with the delivery report?

Thanks in advance.

Daniel Serena

I'm getting many messages sent to my work address from my xmail server =

Now, 10.5.10.90 is my actual xmail server. The users that are being sent =

it) isn't infected (we use GroupWise (please, no laughter)). I've scanned =

Any way to find out exactly where this is coming from? Is it possible =
that the server is generating these?

[xmail] Question

2004-01-30 Thread Nick Marino
How can I tell wether more than one instance of XMail is running on my
server.

I use mojo mail for mailing list and when I restart my server mail is
duplicated for my mailing list till I stop xmail then restart it then all is
well. This happens everytime I reboot my server. Its like an extra copy is
getting started somewhere else in one of the startup scripts or something
although I would think if that was the case I would get a port not
available error in my logs some where for the second copy trying to run,
but I don't.

Any Ideas?

[xmail] question about RDNS

2003-09-25 Thread Jhon Wong
Hi, Davide:

 I had post a mail about my question about RDNS,
now I get more knowlege about it.

Mine is windows platform.

 I have know now that you using 'gethostbyaddr' to
execute RDNS,which maybe return NETBIOS name, I
think that is not we hope.

 Microsoft recommend using getnameinfo.

 But even for getnameinfo,Microsoft said:

The capability to perform reverse lookups using the getnameinfo function is
convenient, but such lookups are considered inherently unreliable, and
should be used only as a hint.

 Then how about RDNS? I using it to anti spam.

 Best regards,
 Jhon Wong

Davide,

Any chance you would consider adding a log for filters? Just something like
what filter was launched and what the return code was. To be honest this
would make developing and debugging filters a lot easier.

[xmail] Question to Davide: 3rd party files in XMail structure [repost]

2003-08-19 Thread michal.valasek

Hello,

I have question to Davide, as author: what do you think about third party
files in XMail folder structure?

I would need for my WAI to store some user data, which are too big for user
variables (ie. text for autoresponder or signature). So, my idea is that I
would write the text to some file, ie.
%MAILROOT%\domains\domain.tld\user\autoreply.wai and use it.

What do you think about this idea, also with your future plans of further
development of XMail? What filenames should be used etc?

Another solution is that I would manage my own independent data store. The
main problem here is with deleted users and/or domains. When someone would
delete user or domain other way than trough my interface, the supporting
data files would not be deleted etc.

[xmail] question on mx records and spam

2003-07-24 Thread vin

I had never bothered putting an mx record for my server, because I seemed to
be getting mail fine without it and I seem to remember from a while back,
some discussion that under some circumstances, mx records are not needed.
then the people at my dad's hospital changed their routers firmware or
something and he could no longer email me, because his servers need an mx
record. I put one, and now I get 1000% more spam. Is this a coincidence?
under what circumstances should I NOT need an mx record? the IT people know
it is a configuration error on their part, but I do not really understand
how mail gets delivered with no mx record, or if this is a good thing

2003-03-10 Thread sergey ivanov

Hi All,
I have question about debian's start-stop script.
If debian's start-stop daemon just kills XMail, which is very quick
operation, why default /etc/init.d/xmail script writes `date` into
$XMAIL_ROOT/.shutdown and waits a lot of time while this file dissapears?
Is killing XMail process safe for mail server operation? Or I must tell
XMail to stop by creating .shutdown file in it's directory and wait
while it finished and closed what it is doing now?

Sergey

[xmail] Question: Do you need the multilanguage version of XMail-WAI?

2002-12-10 Thread Michal Altair Valasek

Hi, all.

I am slowly working on new version of XMail-WAI under ASP.NET. It would
be quicker and generally better.

How important for you is availability to have the user interface in
other languages than English? Current version has messages stored in
separate language file and generates them at runtime. But it's not too
easy to implement, because every part of user interface must be created
or updated dynamically, which is not easy.

I personally feel the multilanguage option as unnecesary. Although
English is not my native language, I think so everyone may learn the 20
words needed for work with mail.

[xmail] Question

2002-10-29 Thread Carlos

Hello all.

Due to my bad English I have some problems to configure Xmail.
Some time ago in www.ordb.org, my server was clasificated as an open relay.

I changed in the server.tab to put:

AllowSmtpVRFY 1

 and with this change ordb said it´s OK.

But yesterday someone used my server to send mail without permission (I
think so). Here are what the server sent to me:

--

[00] XMail bounce: Rcpt=[[EMAIL PROTECTED]];Error=[500 error]

[01] Error sending message [1035840086237.3160.moebius] from
[carlinux.dyndns.org].

ID:S218
Mail From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Rcpt To:   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[02] The reason of the delivery failure was:

500 error

[04] Here is listed the message log file:

[PeekTime] 1035840086 : Mon, 28 Oct 2002 22:21:26 +0100

ErrCode   = -62
ErrString = Bad SMTP response
SMAIL SMTP-Send MX = mta.21cn.com. SMTP = moebius From =
[EMAIL PROTECTED] To = [EMAIL PROTECTED] Failed !
SMTP-Error = 500 error

[05] Here is listed the initial part of the message:

Received: from dbob (211.38.33.197)
by moebius (62.151.107.102) with [XMail 1.11 (Win32/Ix86) ESMTP Server]
id S218 for [EMAIL PROTECTED] from [EMAIL PROTECTED];
Mon, 28 Oct 2002 22:21:24 +0100

Subject: 62.151.107.102
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2002 06:18:49 +0900
X-Priority: 3
X-Library: Indy 8.0.25

--

Is there any body using my server as an open relay?

How can I fix that problems?

By the way, I´ve installed the 1.11 version few days ago, and it runs OK
(the only problem is the related before)

Thanks and excuse me for my English.

Carlos

[xmail] Question

2002-09-20 Thread Spyros Tsiolis

Hello gain people,

ok could someone enlighten me on the following topic ? :

[taken from the xmail docs]:

--
@home.bogus.com   dlibenzi  xmailserver.org:110   dlibenzi  XYZ...
CLR

This entry is used to syncronize the external account
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with encrypted
password XYZ... with the account [EMAIL PROTECTED] using CLR
authentication.
The message will be pushed into the spool having as destination
[EMAIL PROTECTED]  ,
so You've to have some kind of processing for that user or domain in
Your XMail configuration
( for example custom domain processing ).
--

My question relates to the last line of the excerpt above.

Could someone elaborate on custom domain processing ?

TIA,

s.
