Hmm, something fishy is going on with the gentoo portage. Either their
package ir b0rken, or they're trying to run XMail in a chroot by doing
port forwarding.

I haven't read the rest of this post (sorry) but in case it helps I
recall it does attempt a chroot and port forward/redirect, which was a
bit of a problem for me as I do this myself using ASSAP and ClamSMTP - I
finally just installed XMail manually and ignored the port, which worked
well.

Well after getting everything setup I can do some things but not others. I
can get mail through the server, I just can not send it. Any common fixes to
this problem? I am using Linux RedHat 8, XMail, and XPai for admin.

Also, is there a common error/fix area anyone has made?

Thank you,

2003-01-20 Thread RC n AS

Actually I have no auth scheme going right now. I figured once I was able to
make everything work I would move on to lock down mode. Does it require me
to have the SmtpConfig checked? I can add my server config file if anyone
can help figure it out...

When I send mail it acts as if it sends (the mail client send it), I get no
error back saying it was unsent, it just is never received to the email
address.

When I send from my other account (different mail server on different server
software) to this server everything works fine. Odd problem

[xmail] Re: Problems with xmail

2003-01-20 Thread RC n AS

I am sending from my mycravens.com account to this server and then from this
server to my mycravens.com account. I am not using the computer that the
server is housed on, nor a computer that attaches locally so I am pretty
positive I have licked it.

My only issues now will be how to lock this down solid against relays and
then how to add anti spam filters.

Ok, but are you sure it's working right? Can you send it mail from another
domain on another server?

OK, more progress

I enabled EnableAuthSMTP-POP3 and disabled SmtpConfig - I can now send and
receive mail.

Would that be:
EnableAuthSMTP-POP3
or
SmtpConfig

I have tried both but I have had no luck selecting either.

Hi Matic -

Yep - you nailed the problem. By setting up --PI and -SI
I am alive.

Many thanks!

XMail has parameters (example: -PI 10.0.0.4:110 -SI 10.0.0.4:25) for what IP
it accept connections on ports 25,110,...
It seem like you haven't assigned it to 10.0.0.4 but to 127.0.0.1 and since
your firewall redirects connections on port 25,110,... to 10.0.0.4 XMail
won't accept connections.

 Hi -

I have posted much of this on the XMali server forum,
so please bare with me if you have seen it all before.

I am running SuSE 8.0 Linux to host XMail (on ip 10.0.0.4).
My domain is registered on another SuSE 8.0 Linux box with an
external interface. Bind (9.2.1) seems to be working fine.
If I ping mail.mydomain.com bind directs it to my XMail
box via my internal network (ip 10.0.0.4).

 However:

 telnet mail.mydomain.com 25 - fails: Connection refused
 telnet 10.0.0.4 25 - fails: Connection refused
 telnet 127.0.0.1 25 - OK
 telnet localhost 25 - OK

Tring to send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] gives something like:

in messages - XMail[pid]: Socket bind error

 in mail -

 Oct 9 15:38:38 TOMOKO sendmail[13902]: g9A1ccGn013902:
 from=[EMAIL PROTECTED], size=935, class=0, nrcpts=1, proto=ESMTP,

 stat=Deferred: 421 4.3.0 collect: Cannot write ./dfg9A1ccGn013902
(bfcommit,
uid=0, gid=12): No such file or directory

How can I narrow down where to look? I think bind is OK.
There is _nothing_ in the MailRoot log/spool/mailbox areas.

Do I have an authorization problem? What real user does XMail
 use?

Sorry for rambling, I'm tired, got a deadline, etc, etc.

 Aloha = Beau.

[xmail] Re: Problems w/ XMail / Courier-IMAP

2002-07-18 Thread Dick van der Kaaden

Jan,

I use mailproc.tab external delivery for all accounts that I need imap for.
The imap server that I use (dbmail - www.dbmail.org) has a special program
that you can use for this.

The line in mailproc.tab looks like this:

external 0 1 /usr/xmail/dbm.sh @@FILE
@@RCPT@@FROM

The shell script calls the dbmail-smtp program with the right parameters.

You do have to create the users/domains also in dbmail but this is without
all aliases/redirects on domain and user level, xmail takes care of those,
so it is not so complicated for me. Most of our users are stil using pop and
only a few imap.

Dick

 hi,

i think the guy that did it ( i do not remember who was ), was using a
smtprelay to route message to another server. but you can use local
Maildir delivery if you're planning to run IMAP on the same server.

um, it will run on the same machine... though i don't have any idea how to
let xmail deliver directly to a foreign Maildir (without, say, adding a
new user to XMail's userdb). sorry, i may be blind or simply dumb, please
tell me how to accomplish this.

hi,

Xmail stores mail with lines ending in CRLF

Courier assumes that they end in LF

yes, XMail uses CRLF because it can shoot them directly w/out parsing (
the SMTP RFC requires CRLF terminated lines ).

ok, i got so far - i guess i have to find out how to convince courier to
handle them 'right', hm ?

hi,

pls consider the other approach ( redirecting messages for imap users to a
different server )

hm... do you have examples ? at last i don't know how to realize this (i
have to consult the docs, yes) - but technically it's delivering to another
Maildir, isn't it ?
