Lil' hack-together2

2007-04-28 Thread Maciej Podkomorzy
As mentioned in my previous post - it's nothing to look at actually:)
I try to keep the client as simple as it gets while not loosing the
basic functionality.

Do you plan to have a customizable look like Foobar2k? That's pretty
complex, but also a great strength of Foobar2k over, well, all other
music players.

By separating mlib/playlist in tabs, you make them exclusive, which
might be annoying if you want to use what you find by
browsing/searching in the mlib to drag and drop into the playlist. One
solution is to have parallel views, though it makes the client larger.

I think you should have a look at the collection API for the medialib
view, in particular the xmmsc_coll_parse function if you want to have
a search field, and xmmsc_coll_* in general too in fact.

General question: do you have particular ideas that you want to see in
your client, which for instance would not be compatible with existing
clients such as Insanity?

That would be an incredibly nice feature to have, foobar2k is kind of ugly
by default but i've seen some really really neat stuff done with some scripting.

It does look a lot like Insanity, and if that's the general direction you're
headed in, Sham and I would be happy to have you help out on insanity. :)

Well, the main difference is that Insanity is GTK/Python, and Blastwave
GTK/C so I don't think I could be of any assistance:) What's
interesting, I haven't seen Insanity before I started writing my own
client - good to know that someone has a similar idea of what an xmms2
client should look like.

When it comes to features/looks of the app, nothing is certain yet as
it's in the pre-dev phase, but introducing some foobar2k feats is pretty
tempting and I'm considering to implement them.

Note: my client is not 'offical', and the earlier posts of mine are NOT
an announcement;) I might never show it to the world actually (read: not
in it;s current state) :)

gx2ctl is also GTK/C; (actually glade-2/libgnome) there are a few bugs,
but it works and is low-pri on my ToDo list.

http://mir.dnsalias.com/oss/xmms2/gx2ctl
git clone git://robstar.dyndns.org/gx2ctl.git
might come in handy for you.

@xmms2 team: do you guys want to provide a mirror or master-repo for it
on git.xmms.se ? - you could just 'pull' and I'll drop by on IRC some
time for PM for a push-account.

cheers,
robin
