Re: [xubuntu-users] Please help
Hi again Donny, Sorry for the rushed replies, very busy here. Listen, modern computers BIOS come with many new protection settings, different boot options (EFI, UEFI, etc) for many different reasons (manufacturers copyrights, marketing, microsoft greed, etc) So, you need to run through all your BIOS settings and adjust them to allow for installation of a different operating system, booting from usb, etc If you have a setting (tick box) for Enable Legacy Firmware, tick it... I found it to help with this new Dell I have as well (can't tell you why because I'm a relativelly newbie to Linux, but seems that it helps with some old drivers installation) The one thing you MUST do, however, is to DISABLE the SECURE BOOT. If you don't, your machine will ignore everything at boot time and just boot to windows or ask you for a safeguard (or whatever similar protection software) password. So, before you do anything further, try to disable secure boot and reboot your laptop. Because for what you say, it looks like ubuntu has successfully installed, but the machine just won't boot to it... If it still doesn't boot after that, adjust all BIOS settings as mentioned above, then reinstall ubuntu, then reboot. It will work. Hope this helps J. Re: [xubuntu-users] Please help
The first thing you need to do is to do some research and find out what those BIOS settings are used for and how they are changed properly. Going in willy nilly and changing what you THINK they should be is not the right way to go about it. Ask your resources if there is anyone who has the same model computer/BIOS. Be EXACT. Pictures if necessary. and see what others have done to get LINUX installed. A little research and leg work will go a long way in solving your problem. --El On Mon, Jun 20, 2022 at 12:31 AM Donny Turang wrote: > Thankyou for the response. > I'll give it a try (22.04). > However, the problem when I install Linux OS (Ubuntu and its variants) on the > acer aspire 4075 laptop, it always fails to boot. > Note: Other computers (desktops and laptops) I have installed Ubuntu and its > variants (Lubuntu, Xubuntu) without any problems. > Especially for installing linux on the acer aspire 4750 laptop it always > fails to boot. > I see, maybe, the problem is in the laptop's bios. Re: [xubuntu-users] Please help
Hi, I had trouble with a recent DELL...found it to be all due to the settings in the Bios... First of all, disable secure boot, the check all other settings like allowing booting from usb, install from legacy, etc Then reinstall ubuntu It should work fine. J. Re: [xubuntu-users] Please help
Thankyou for the response. I'll give it a try (22.04). However, the problem when I install Linux OS (Ubuntu and its variants) on the acer aspire 4075 laptop, it always fails to boot. Note: Other computers (desktops and laptops) I have installed Ubuntu and its variants (Lubuntu, Xubuntu) without any problems. Especially for installing linux on the acer aspire 4750 laptop it always fails to boot. I see, maybe, the problem is in the laptop's bios. Moreover, in the bios menu it says ubuntu and ubuntu is never lost, even though I return the settings to default (even go into bios - F2 and F12), but the words ubuntu in the bios are still there. Please help to solve the problem. Additional notes: I replaced the acer laptop HDD with an SSD, but the ubuntu writing in the bios is still there. Please guide.
