Hi Bruno,

Thank you for your answer! I have changed the time step setting to
GlobalStiffnessTimeStepper(), this program can continue to run. But, the
time step suddenly drops to 0 after a few seconds. If I set the ktwist
of Ip2_FrictMat_FrictMat_MindlinPhys() to 0, there is no problem. I am
trying some other examples with
Ip2_FrictMat_FrictMat_MindlinPhys(ktwist= non-zero value) to figure out
if my system or yade version has bugs.

Hi,
It could be that a high torsional stiffness needs a smaller timestep, so that
you get a classical numerical instability if you keep it the same.
GlobalStiffnessTimeStepper would take this into account, but PWaveTimeStep()
doesn't.

Question #700315 on Yade changed:

Chareyre proposed the following answer:
Since different versions of openMPI is already a problem there's no way
it will work with intel+openMPI.

Indeed generating a new docker is an option, provided that you manage to
compile yade with intel compiler therein.

I see no escape and it's not really a problem with singularity : either
you get openMPI installed on the cluster or you compile yade with intel
on the cluster directly (or you compile yade with intel then you make a
docker->singularity of this, but it's only adding another layer of
possible trouble).

After canceling the setting of torsional stiffness of hertz-mindlin

to figure out why the value of ktwist can cause the error above. Do I
need to change the Ubuntu system? My Ubuntu system is Ubuntu 21.10 and
Yade 2021.01a using python 3.9.7. And, there is the same problem when
the code is running in another computer (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and yadedaily

Question #700314 on Yade changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/700314

Status: Open => Answered

Karol Brzezinski proposed the following answer:
Hi,

MWE (Minimum Working Example)[1] would be helpful with emphasis on "working".
When running your code, the first problem I encounter is an undefined variable
(compFricDegree).
I cannot help with twisting, but rolling seems to be properly included in your
code.

If you want to start without this, and activate it later maybe you
should add a label to your engine, and change its properties by
referring to this label. Not tested, but this workflow would look like
this:

in engines set a label to Law2
Law2_ScGeom_MindlinPhys_Mindlin(includeMoment=False, label = 'Mindlin_Law')

(... run the simulation until some condition is reached ...)
#change the engine
Mindlin_Law.includeMoment=True
O.interactions.clear()# I would reset all the interactions just in case

(... run the rest of the simulation ...)

Cheers,
Karol

Question #700411 on Yade changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/700411

Karol Brzezinski proposed the following answer:
Hi,

please note that krot is not a problem. The simulation fails if ktwist is
nonzero (but you prescribe 'kr' to both 'krot' and 'ktwist').
It works without setting 'ktwist' (e.g. comment out #ktwist=kr,)

Cheers,
Karol

PS Remember that version and system information is helpful too, and try
to include it in your next questions.
