[Zappa-List] Re: King Kong
That sounds about right. I just listened to it again, it could very well be just a plain saxophone, but electrified and jazzed up. Just found this link too (you've probably all seen this already) that adds a bit to my listening experience of King Kong :) http://www.militantesthetix.co.uk/zappo/kingkong.htm --- In Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com, "pbuzby2002" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The credits mention that Bunk plays "electric-depending" woodwinds at > times - this is one of those, I think, since it produces tones in two > or three different octaves at once. Sorry for the delay - I didn't forget about you, I was on vacation!! It's actually part IV. I listened to it again last week in the car, it just rocks. It goes way too low to be a saxaphone, even a baritone saxophone... --- In Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com, "Guy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > King Kong on Uncle Meat is in six parts. [Zappa-List] Re: King Kong
Geez, I'm gonna have to listen to it again, I didn't realize it had so many parts. Darn... :) Chris, it does sound like a sax in some parts, even a baritone sax, but it goes down soo low I'm not sure a baritone sax can go that low... Anyway, it's a cool piece of music. I DID listen to it again last night, but with a severe lack of sleep and the distraction of my surroundings, I didn't pay much attention to it this time. --- In Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com, "Guy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > King Kong on Uncle Meat is in six parts. [Zappa-List] Re: King Kong
Hey Chris! Yep, Uncle Meat it is. I was just reading something about it actually, since posting earlier today, and am quite excited about it. (Keep in mind that last night was my first exposure to King Kong ever) It says "It consists of a brief set of composed sequences which are then followed by extensive improvising. This beautiful set of descending sequences is in 3/4 time and in Dorian mode." Now I want to hear it again!! But what IS that sound? It's so funky... Thanks for the compliments on my site! I had forgotten all about it... It's been a while since I've made any updates to it... [Zappa-List] King Kong
Hey all. What instrumention does FZ use in King Kong? We were debating this last night, thought it might be a wind instrument. But it sounds electronic to me. Not like an EWI though, more like a synthesizer. Or a muted baritone sax, or even (gasp!) a bassoon... But that thing goes so low at one point, I'm sure it's no wind instrument... Any thoughts? Thanks for the welcome :) I never listened to FZ until recently. A few years ago, I was dating someone who made him sound like a dirty old man by calling him Uncle Frank, and saying it with a weird drawl... But a new friend of mine has really been into him lately, and listening to anything with this friend, who gets so enthusiastic about stuff, just makes me want to know a bit more! You've been helpful. And FZ is sure a fun guy, don't you think? For further Z-related fun, please visit http://www.thebignote.com or http://www.killuglyradio.com , thank you. Yahoo! [Zappa-List] Re: RDZNL
Wow, that's great! I knew if I asked here I'd get somewhere. So it's RDNZL, not RDZNL. My mistake... I like the stick shift theory, although they're right, why wouldn't Neutral be between Reverse and Drive?... (of course, if FZ didn't drive it might be an explanation...) --- In Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Of course, there's always http://www.arf.ru/Notes/Stan/rdnzl.html For further Z-related fun, please visit http://www.thebignote.com or http://www.killuglyradio.com , thank you. [Zappa-List] RDZNL
Hey everybody. I'm trying to figure out what RDZNL stands for, or what it might mean, or what it's supposed to sound like... Do any of you know? Is this already posted somewhere and I just can't find my way around the forum well enough to find it myself? I've been saying it in my head, wondering if it's supposed to sound like a word or a phrase, and I've been typing it on the keyboard trying to see if a meaningful pattern emerges, but nothing yet!!
