Hello Michael,
Welcome to the list!
Might I suggest that, rather than have you ask prospective traders
what they'd wish for, it would be a bit easier for you to archive a
list of what you have? At the yahoogoup's Zappa-List page, they have a
Files section. There is a folder there called "Member Trade Lists"
installed for just this kinda thing.
Please post your shows in there; that way, we can all drool over what
you have! You might also want to peruse other member lists; it's the
best way to get a trade going that I know of.
Thanks, and I hope you have a nice time here at the List...

SOFA

There are 3 vines of this show occuring simultaneously, in order to
"catch it up" with the others that have been out there a while.

I don't think I follow your questioning, Danny...
The "Joe" series (Corsage, and Domage - what the hell is Corsaga?)
will be 'short' offerings that would not necessarilly 'fit' in a
larger project; at least, this is the way I understand it.
Full-sized projects (i.e. The Roxy, Trance-Fusion, Dance Me This, etc.
will be released on Zappa Records, much like OZ and Quadio have been.
Vaulternative will release the oddities, and the shorts that comprise
the "Joe" series.
The deal with Ryko was up for renewal; it was never open-ended, to my
knowledge. Ryko probably decided not to get "bent over" by Gail a
second time for a catalogue that doesn't sell, except in the long
term... So the break with Ryko was not sudden at all, and was expected
- at least by me.
Gail needs to find a distributor for the pre-CPIII stuff, tho she
could decide to do it herself (Heh-heh, good luck Babe).

[Zappa-List] Re: Downloadable show!

2005-01-05 Thread sofa49423fz

Another good reason to have a FAQ for these pages, Chris...
Balint's site is a nice one, run by a real die-hard Zappa fanatic. The
download is a new feature, but one that will be recurring.
Kill Ugly Radio tries to offer a new show (halfs, if it's more than
one disk) every Friday and theBIGnote puts up something different
every month or so...
But a lot of us cruise these sites anyway, or are involved, so we take
it for granted that they're there.
I don't know if KUR's boot is still up, but it was a good one from the
74 band, November 27th, with "Birdlegs" Yoeman on bass.
Many of theBIGnote's FZ features originate from vines from this List
(ahem; ya do what ya gotta do).

The last time ol' Potato-Head 'disappeared' it was for a
year-and-a-half. Not condoning, or making excuses for, what he has
done; Roberto is a free-lance writer. The last I heard, he was going
to be under contract by some major Brazillian magazine to write an
expose on back-packing, with a distinct possibility of being called
out on the road. From what I gather, his business trips often last
months at a time - oftentimes in exotic, and dangerous, locations...
Again, he shouldn't have put himself in this position - simply no
excuse for that. But having 'known' him for a couple of years thru
various fz groups, I'd say neglectful, thoughtless, even stupid, are
better adjectives than dead-beat...
That is - uh - just me, of course.
Hoping he is all right,

[Zappa-List] VO 750427 Boston sorta... FLAC disk

2005-03-05 Thread sofa49423fz

With thanks to Ken Weston, I have this single disk to offer - and an
important announcement/point to make:
(I don't know where this disk originated, but the "contents" have
'morphed' over time; their not exactly what I expected.)

This disk contains MOST of the early show from Boston 750427 - but not
all. The 9 tracks in FLAC format equal these somgs:
Improvisations
Token Of My Extreme
Stinkfoot
I'm Not Satisfied
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy
Velvet Sunrise
Pound For A Brown
Sleeping In A Jar
Poofter's Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead
Echidna's Arf
improvisations (incl Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top)
Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?

The final two tracks listed for that show (Advance Romance & Willie
The Pimp) are not on this disk...
Now, at some point, I am sure that I saw this offered up here as both
shows from that date; that may have been a different vine (if so,
would whomever is handling it right now contact me please?).

There is however, more to this disk than meets the eye: SHN files of
the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the Miami Pop Fstival 1968, 4 tracks of
soundboard quality. There's also a SHN file of the original vinyl
rendering of "...Green Genes", that sounds rather unique.
I'm prepared to offer this to the first to contact me (with a snail
mail addy, off-list) with a promise to reoffer.

We should all take care with the vines that we are transmitting
complete and factual info regarding the contents...
Regards,
SOFA

[Zappa-List] IMPORTANT New Policy; Please Read

2005-04-02 Thread sofa49423fz

Vines, and the Viners who Vine them...

One of the things that kept me from promoting Vines or Trees (or
whateverthefuck) at the List was the fear that we would eventually
become a group of 'traders', with nothing to say except for "who
wants/gets what?"; after all, the List is a DISCUSSION group.
This fear has been put to rest, and vining has become an important
form of community here.
We tried setting up vines with an apointed "Vinemeister" (thank you
Larry, for all that work you did back in those days). This worked
okay, until someone broke the vine. Then, all eyes turned towards the
vinemeister, expecting him to not only set up, coallate, and start the
vine, but now to "fix it" because of some deadbeat.
That wasn't the answer...
Then we adopted the "first come w/ re-offer" method. This has served
pretty well, but flaws still appeared: folks who check the site,
rather than receive individual emails tend to get left out, or respond
too late; newbies have no way of knowing what vines are out there;
vines can 'die' when there's a lapse in interest; etc.
So, that isn't the answer either...
Here is the method of vining that I would like to see become the
Standard for the Zappa-List:
A member that starts a vine, posts to that effect with a "VO" (Vine
Open) in the subject line (ex: VO 841206 Oklahoma, or VO KECT "Token
of His Extreme", or VO DVD "Video From Hell", etc). In the message
body, before any info is listed, the person offering the vine puts
their user name and location/country, followed by 2 arrows: ex.
SOFA-US<<. Then add whatever pertinant info you want, or is available.

Here's what a vine message should look like:

To: Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com
From: sofa49423fz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Sat Apr 2, 2005 9:16 am
Subject:VO 741106 Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh

Message:SOFA-US<<
60 min, SBD,
01 Tush Tush Tush
02 Stinkfoot
03 Inca Roads
04 Experiencing Technical Difficulties
05 Yellow Snow (tape break?)
06 St Alphonso's Pancake Breakfast
07 Cosmik Debris
08 Florentine Pogen
09 I'm Not Satisfied.

The message is sent out in this form; the first member interested
posts a response to the group message (DON'T CHANGE the 'Header' or
subject line in ANY way) by adding their user name or ID to the above
message: ex. SOFA-US<

Can anyone confirm the status of this DVD vine(s)?
I know this was created before our new system went into effect, but I
have been receiving questions concerning it - like adding some more
names. Michael Painter wants in, for sure.
There were supposedly 3 shoots to this vine, according to Cris. Have
they all reached the end (the non-burners)? If so, might one of the
burner recipients please make a re-offer?
Any info would be appreciated...

[Zappa-List] Vine Clarify?

2005-11-15 Thread sofa49423fz
Hey Kids!
In my conversation with white rabbitt the other day, he mentioned that
he had received the Flo & Eddie vine (76 & 79, I think?). He was
uncertain who to send it to next.
I tracked down this lineage - but I know there have been some changes:

Chris US << Bart << mr. skull << Richard-UK << Milhouse-US << white
rabbitt-US << Nick Ullmann-UK << Scott Burnett - US << Joseph-US
[EMAIL PROTECTED] << Guy-US [EMAIL PROTECTED] <<

I believe everyone up to rabbitt has received the vine, including Nick
behind him. We've not heard from Scott Burnett in a while... My guess
would be that Joseph ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) should be next. Whomever
gets back to rabbitt ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) first with an addy
gets it, yes? Then on to Guy.
Thank you,
SOFA

PS If you read this, and think "Boy, I sure would like to get in on
THAT vine", please don't respond to this message to that effect. I
will lose all respect for you...

[Zappa-List] Zappa (and YOU) En La Radio

2006-03-29 Thread sofa49423fz
Greetings One & All!
April is right around the corner and we all know what that means:
(Yeah, it means a shitload of things to a lot of different people, but
for our purposes it means)
The Annual "Zappathon" is coming up soon! (April 23rd, to be precise.)
That's right, you heard right, the 12 hour extravaganza that dares to
be Zappa will mangle the air waves in a little less than a month.
(Bring the Band down behind me, Boys.)
For those that have tuned-in in the past, you know that there's bound
to be a ton of tasty FZ to enjoy, much of it rare or difficult to
acquire - making the Zappathon a "must listen" in the FZ community.
Yup. Uncle Frank gets the radio play he sorely lacked during his
all-too-brief lifetime - 12 freakin' hours worth!
But this is more than just an announcement regarding the program, this
is also a "call to arms" (or mouths, if you prefer).
Once again, "Mr. Edison" - the Zappathon's guiding light (Zappa-List
member Bill Amutis) - and Company have asked if I would like to be a
"voice" for the FZ Community on the program. I've agreed...
But with so many "voices" out there, I couldn't help wonder "Why Me?"
So I concocted this Evil Plan:
Since the Zappathon is truly a global event, as is the FZ Community,
why not incorporate some 'other voices' into the program?
The Powers at WUSB have deemed this "a BRILLIANT idea" (go figure).
So this is your chance to "share the air" with the likes of Greg
Russo, Nigey Lennon, David Walley, Charles Ulrich, Candy Zappa - to
name just a few past Zappa luminaries that have appeared; your chance
to pay personal homage to the man that brought most of us together;
your chance to "plug" your fan club, FZ Tribute Band, FZ website, make
a statement or that 'long distance dedication' you've been dying to make.
"Gee, SOFA, how can I lend MY voice to this year's Zappathon?"
Glad you asked...
Here's the deal: the Zappathon is a radio show and - as such - it has
certain 'rules' it needs to abide, announcing its call letters (WUSB)
for one. The show is also part of the annual Fund Drive to keep the
station in operation, so there NEEDS to be requests for support.
We (in the FZ global community) can help out by providing these
"station breaks".
For example: "Hi, this is Poodle from theBIGnote and you're listening
to Zappathon 2006 from WUSB Stoneybrook"; or "This is 'Barry' from
'Kill Ugly Radio' in Belgium. We're all doing our part to Kill Ugly
Radio and no one does more than the hard workin' folks down at WUSB
Stoneybrook... If ya think about it, that's kinda beautiful. And while
you're thinkin' about it, why not throw a coupla bucks their way?"; or
"This is Bart from Poland and I want to dedicate "Strictly Genteel" to
my pal Dimi in Croatia."
Get the Picture? The possibilities are indeed endless...
All you need to do is simply record your audio message, and email it
to me. I will collate all of the submissions, burn them to disk, and
send it on to the team at WUSB.
Don't know what to say? Email me. Want to Freak Out in the Suburbs? Go
for it!
(WUSB is a Public Radio operation that can "push the envelope" of
"acceptable" radio play; however, the staff retains the right to edit
or omit anything patently obscene or profane. We want to Kill Ugly
Radio, not WUSB.)
Kinda like registering to vote, this is your chance to let your voice
be heard!
Let the taping begin...
Warm Regards,
SOFA

Thanks for remembering at least, Bart! So far the response has been
underwhelming - to be kind (shitty, to be honest). Between the
messages I posted at 3 FZ yahoogroups and at KUR, I have received 2

Even from a blanket marketing standpoint, .2% sucks.
I guess that's what I get for trying to include everyone in something
I hold dear.

Hey Kids!
These disk(s) just arrived from my most deepest, mysterious source.
(Well, I didn't generate them.)
I promised the 'disk' of stuff from the 81 rehearsal that appeared in
TBN's BHJ Vault whenever the hell it was... And I can deliver.
But...
I received 4 disks of the 81 rehearsals. And I personally do not know
(nor do I intend to inquire) whether or not this "disk", as presented
at TBN, is a compilation, or one of the 4.
Get the picture?
So our BHJ's Vault disk has increased from 1 disk to 4. I do not think
that is going to break anyone's heart.
But...
If you, by chance, put yourself on this vine expecting one (and only
one) disk of the aforemoentioned 'release', now's the time to remove
yourself from the vine.
Otherwise...
The hoppinated vine commences now; John, I've still got your addy (go
figure), if you want out respond soon; Neil, you may wish to contact
John off list with your addy.
(I do have yet to copy these, so they will be in the post by Sat AM.
Have fun!

[Zappa-List] Re: VO: MOI Fillmore West 11-06-70 (Audio CD)

2007-01-26 Thread sofa49423fz

Skipsign (US) << Conehead (BE) << Ashley H (UK) << ???

Received this from JohnG (thanks dude!) last weekend, and am ready to
pass it on. Skipsign, your snail addy please.

BTW, for those who have been a part of (or interested in) the 'Vine
Problems' debate we've been having, the above represents the procedure
that should occur when a disk gets passed along: 1) Find the Last and
Most Complete list of viner's and respond to that message, with 2)
your name removed from the list, and 3) remove any non-essential
morsels of commentary from previous posts - if you're anal enough to
keep it looking nice...

If you clicked on the link that appeared in this message, then I'm not
surprised - the author had a hyperlink wrap issue. Try that address
without the "dot 1" after the dot com; that might get you better action...

[Zappa-List] Re: VO - Lumpy Gravy (Capitol), Crush All Boxes, Weasel Music, Royce

2008-08-05 Thread sofa49423fz
The correct order for this vine as of my sending it off to John G in
Kansas is: john g in kansas (US) << Skipster2001 (US) << reinhardtken
(US) << Mark H (US) << Matt S(US) << Marty Guinn (US) << Guy Gonzo1
(US) << Luis (AR) lusi_tanio@ << ???
As for making your "inclusion" stick, Guy, well it's stuck to this
message. That doesn't not mean that some other member won't respond
to a different post and make it appear unstuck; my great power
extends only so for, Bro...
