This one finally arrived today, thanks to John K. I'll get it copied
and passed on to Richard as soon as I can.

With it taking nearly 2 weeks to cross the pond, hoppinating these
vines is certainly the best idea!!

Rare Gems From August '81
This month we present a rare gem from deep within the Magic Fingers' FZ
concert collection.  Back in August 1981, during early rehearsals for the
1981 tour, Frank put the band through a number of songs that in the end never
actually featured during that tour.  You thought Any Kind of Pain was a
song from 1988?  Check out these proto-versions, one with different lyrics
from the version we would become familiar with.  How about We Are Not Alone
with vocals?  Or Portuguese Lunar landing, originally premiered on the 1975
tour but rarely played even then.  A 1981 version of Kaiser Rolls?
Even We're Turning Again with extra Hendrix verses.  It's all here, plus
some 1981 standards.  Put your feet up, sit back and enjoy the 1981
band earning a crust.

Thanks John K !!

I figure this rehearsal, originally posted on TBN and now offered
here, would fit onto one disc.
But what about the other three ??
("What d'you mean the other three?")
Anyone with more info ?

Thanks again.

Kind regards

2006-07-15 Thread Conehead
Thanks John K !!

Again, just wondering:

I'd figure this August 1981 rehearsal, posted earlier on TBN, would
easily fit onto one disc, not four of them ...
So, what about the other three?
('What d'you mean the other three?')

Material from 'Member Contributions' and 'Covers, Tributes, Sidemen'
posted at TBN that same month ? Or more 1981 FZ rehearsals ??

Anyone with more info ?? Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Conehead

song from 1988?  Check out these proto-versions, one with different lyrics
from the version we would become familiar with.  How about We Are Not Alone
with vocals?  Or Portuguese Lunar landing, originally premiered on the 1975
tour but rarely played even then.  A 1981 version of Kaiser Rolls?
Even We're Turning Again with extra Hendrix verses.  It's all here, plus
some 1981 standards.  Put your feet up, sit back and enjoy the 1981
band earning a crust.

  Any Kind Of Pain
  Nig Biz
  Kaiser Rolls
  Dickie's Such An Asshole
  Portuguese Lunar Landing
  Teenage Prostitute
  Alien Orifice
  Cocaine Decisions
  Baltimore Moggio
  We Are Not Alone
  Any Kind Of Pain
  We're Turning Again

[Zappa-List] Re: VO: Bald Headed John's Vault (4xCDs)

2006-07-26 Thread Les Watts

This vine is on
its way to Ashley tomorrow.

The hoppinated
vine currently looks like this (I think!):

r2daft2
(leswatts@) UK << Ashley Harrold UK << Pete Restall(restallp@)
UK<< Bart (bartozjad@) Pol << Alain (arid2004@) CH
<<  Dawayne Bailey (oozlet@) US << John G in Kansas
(croontoonz1950@) US << Skipsign US << Luis
(lusi_tanio@) AR <<

Please add
yourself back in if I've missed anyone out.

There's been some
confusion regarding what's actually on these four audio
discs.
As I've now had
chance to see them (although I've not played them all the way through yet) I can
confirm that they appear to be the following:

Discs 1 &
2:

??-Aug? 1981, UMRK, Los Angeles, CA
90 min, B+
Any Kind Of Pain, Nig Biz, Kaiser Rolls, Dickie's Such An Asshole,
Portuguese Lunar Landing, Teenage Prostitute, Alien Orifice, Cocaine Decisions,
What's New In Baltimore?, Moggio, We Are Not Alone (w/ vocals!!), Any Kind Of
Pain (w/ different words), We're Turning Again (w/ extra Jimi Hendrix
verses)

Disc 3:

12-Aug 1981, UMRK, Los Angeles,
CA
45 min, A-
Portuguese Lunar Landing, Bamboozled By Love, I'm The Slime, The Illinois
Enema Bandit (short appearance by Lisa Popeil while FZ experiments on combining
IEB with Zoot Allures), Camarillo Brillo, Muffin Man, Theme from Mr Rogers'
Neighbourhood, Tryin' To Grow A Chin, Dancin' Fool, Flakes, Montana, Drowning
Witch

Disc 4:

14-Sep 1981, UMRK, Los Angeles, CA

45 min, B+
Yo Mama, Any Kind Of Pain, Kaiser Rolls, Envelopes

Cheers
Les.

songs that in the end never actually featured during that tour. You
thought Any Kind of Pain was a song from 1988? Check out these
proto-versions, one with different lyrics from the version we would
become familiar with. How about We Are Not Alone with vocals? Or
Portuguese Lunar landing, originally premiered on the 1975 tour but
rarely played even then. A 1981 version of Kaiser Rolls? Even
We're Turning Again with extra Hendrix verses. It's all here, plus
some 1981 standards. Put your feet up, sit back and enjoy the 1981
band earning a crust.

[Zappa-List] Re: VO: Bald Headed John's Vault (4xCDs)

2006-10-19 Thread Conehead
Welcome to the two "Newbies" Andy Goldstein-US and ZappaFan-Brazil !!

If Luis in Argentina doesn't mind we could squeeze in/hoppinate Mr.
Golstein behind the last US-person in the chain, to make it look like
this then:

<< Dawayne Bailey (oozlet@) US << John G in Kansas
(croontoonz1950@) US << Skipsign US << Andy Goldstein-US << Luis
(lusi_tanio@) AR << ZappaFan BR

Andy, ZappaFan, you should get notified in private by the person
before you in the chain for your address then. Once you have received
this disc set you will contact the person after you in the chain for
their address and pass it along.

Cheers

Hey all - I just bought a new CD/DVD burner and the 4-CD set will go

If memory serves, Conehead, the disks are all from the 81 rehearsals. I
can't really tell you much more than that. See http://home.swipnet.se/fzshows/8182.html for
more info.
When I told MF there was interest in the one listed at TBN, he couldn't
remember which was which, so he sent all that he had...
That's why so many disks.

SOFA

Thanks John K !!Again, just wondering:I'd figure this
August 1981 rehearsal, posted earlier on TBN, would easily fit onto one
disc, not four of them ...So, what about the other three?('What d'you
mean the other three?')Material from 'Member Contributions' and
'Covers, Tributes, Sidemen' posted at TBN that same month ? Or more 1981
FZ rehearsals ??Anyone with more info ?? Thanks again.Kind

Check out these proto-versions, one with different
lyrics from the version we would become familiar with.  How about We Are
Not Alone with vocals?  Or Portuguese Lunar landing, originally premiered
on the 1975 tour but rarely played even then.  A 1981 version of Kaiser
Rolls?  Even We're Turning Again with extra Hendrix verses.  It's
all here, plus some 1981 standards.  Put your feet up, sit back and enjoy
the 1981 band earning a crust.

I think it should go to Skipsign-US, Dawayne; it looks like John G mailed
it to you - at least, that's how the message reads. This one got just a little
off track, but I'm pretty sure Skipsign is next.

Yes, that's what I figured out - finally...
Conehead is an old friend from Belgium who often helps keep the vines
straight; it was his post that I misread. As I was in on this one, I chimed in
to clarify and then I muddied the waters.
Lesson learned.

Hello Andie the Newbie!
Have you read the FAQ (located in the Files section of the yahoo groups'
Zappa-List homepage)? It's chock full of interesting stuff - including how to
properly attached yourself to the vines that circulate here. Might I suggest you
check it out?
I'd hate to have you miss out, for lack of checking out...
