Re: [zeromq-dev] Bitcoin still using ZMQ?

2020-12-03 Thread PLATT Kevin
Thanks! After installing googletest, I was able to successfully built OZ on
Ubuntu 20.04. The unit tests ran without error. I tried some of the examples,
and they seem to be OK. I'm new to OZ, so I have a long ways to go...

Re: [zeromq-dev] Bitcoin still using ZMQ?

2020-12-03 Thread Alex
Yes, Bitcoin still uses ZMQ.
At least, Bitcoin-Core (most common implementation) is, but some other
implementations do not use it. I think it uses version 4.0.0 now.
When building from source it can be disabled.

Google Test is packaged in Ubuntu (& Debian) as libgtest-dev. However, it
is an oddity as it is distributed as a library package, which means it is
in source format and requires compiling for each use-case.

Re: [zeromq-dev] Bitcoin still using ZMQ?

2020-11-25 Thread Bill Torpey
Hi Kevin:

Right now we have only tested on CentOS 6 and 7 (and a little bit on CentOS 8).
(On the other hand, we’ve done a *LOT* of testing on those platforms).

Personally I’ve been able to build and run the examples also on macOS (Mojave),
so there’s no reason to think it won’t work fine on Ubuntu, or any other
reasonably standard Linux, for that matter.

We’ve got pretty limited resources available, so we’re hoping that the
community can help with platform support.

So, give it a go, and if you run into any problems create an issue and/or
submit a PR and we’ll work it through.

Regards,

Bill

Re: [zeromq-dev] Bitcoin still using ZMQ?

2020-11-25 Thread PLATT Kevin
The readme says "OZ runs on Linux (CentOS 6 and above)". Does OZ support other
Linux distros besides CentOS? Would it work on Ubuntu for example? Is that
being worked on?

Thanks
-Kevin

Hi Benjamin:

I don’t know about Bitcoin, but you may be interested to know that my company
has gone public with our open-source middleware implementation using ZeroMQ
called OZ, which can be found here:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_nyfix_OZ=DwIGaQ=cxWN2QSDopt5SklNfbjIjg=_CPgjyivOu3pukTS1ZDJHPS_XO7ekx65v2ipCHCSXkc=CSS6FA6GChMlo7vYcVTD9AHoCKH_3ICV9jQTYvEAtG0=VmGBkS0PAGj0oRxtlAN3FjW2jR-OMuNbtPfkKr-ZKhY=
. OZ has been used to power the NYFIX Marketplace, which is the world’s
largest FIX network, since early March of this year in the US, Europe and Asia.

I also authored a white-paper where we discussed the implementation, which can
be found here:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.itiviti.com_insights_what-2Dthe-2Dheck-2Dis-2Dmiddleware-2Danyway=DwIGaQ=cxWN2QSDopt5SklNfbjIjg=_CPgjyivOu3pukTS1ZDJHPS_XO7ekx65v2ipCHCSXkc=CSS6FA6GChMlo7vYcVTD9AHoCKH_3ICV9jQTYvEAtG0=5q-z52qwfAEToBU5EwXQgKd9hY1mWVZCkuAHzXkcQto=
 .

Hope you find this interesting and/or useful.

Regards,

Bill
