I bought Revenge Of The Jaguar for a DJ friend yesterday as a present for being so being so kind to me over time. I knew he'd been looking for Rolando's record ages as he loves it. I bought it at a underground store but the (male) Melbourne DJ posse was hanging out, as they do on Fridays, and I

listen to any lock groove track and you'll notice, if the pitch is at 0, that the bpm of the lock groove is always 133. that's because a lock groove is one revolution (around the record once in a groove whose start meets its end). something to do with 33 revolutions per minute. i'm no

is there any philosophy behind the 133.3.. bpm ? not philosphy - mechanics! 33 rpm actually means 33-1/3 rpms. so, to get a one beat measure into a locked groove, it has to be 33-1/3 beats per minute. if we want four beats, they have to go four times as fast to fit into the

ethyl alcohol but as this isn't exactly easy to get (unless you are a doctor or something) i use anti static monitor cleaning spray (it has some sort of solvent that doesn't wreck records plus the anti static means they don't re-attract dust) or i guess you could buy some record cleaning

rubbing alcohol works well, especially on mold or water damaged records. windex is a less abrasive way of getting rid of easier to clean stuff: finger prints, grease etc. i even knew someone who swore by his air freshener spray! record cleaning liquid works well, but is relatively expensive and

does the distance of the circumference of the groove to the center of the record matter? on the outside, the record has a larger diameter. played at 33-1/3 rpms, you could play a locked groove with less bpm. on the inside, it is smaller and you could play more bpm. i mean, the difference in

i agree that the needle always travels at the same velocity, the record is always turning at 33-1/3 rpms. but the circumference of a locked groove at two different positions on the record will be different lengths. traveling the same velocity on each of these grooves, one will be longer than the
