records...also does putting weights on the end of the tone arms make the
record wear out faster???
Philip.
i have read grooves magazine. it doesn't come out very often. you can read
their magazine online. groove has good articles about music. in the end
of each grove magazine there are software reviews. to me groove is better then
music magazines with excessive adverts (XLR8R, the URB).

I'm visiting Amsterdam at the end of this week. Can anyone suggest record shops
other than Rush Hour that I should check out? Any good secondhand shops?
Also, am I right in thinking that the Theo Parrish event on Friday is in
Rotterdam, not Amsterdam?
Cheers.
From one of the Rushhour mailouts it looks as though the Theo gig is in
Amsterdam
upcoming (national and international)
PARADISCO3000 - Amsterdam, March the 7th, special guest from Detroit THEO
PARRISH, All Out K, Antal Kc The Funkaholic, plus MC Drew and Machine Will
Make You See Things.
Lighter fluid (like the stuff you fill Zippo lighters with) or record
cleaner from most record shops both work very well with no bad side
effects and of course a soft cloth.
Any weight on a record will cause wear and yes, the more weight the more
wear. So it's a pay off. If you're mixing

Hmm, there's a few good ones. Most of them tucked away though that I would
find hard to describe how to get to.
There's one in Leidesplein
Excellent, thanks - that's me sorted out for Friday night!

The problem with going to other record shops in Amsterdam, is that it leaves
you with less time and money for Rush Hour - its an incredible shop! Give
yourself plenty of time to poke around in there...

Sorry if I have confused anyone
Make sure if you are using lighter fluid to clean your records it is Zippo
brand, because most other brands put wax in their fluid. My guess is that
wax and grooves don't mix all that well. Your records might start sounding
muddy, either that or you could put your stylus on the birthday cake
This is a vaguely related question but still on the needles topic... I
changed my needles the other day and noticed that they jumped like a bugger
when I was scratching - went I went back to my old needles all was fine. How
is this - do new needles need to be worn in for scratching purposes ??
:)
Is it the strings mix ?

It would be interesting to know the actual deal, if anyone knows - do these
things tend to be done on a licensing basis, or are we talking more about
rights, which implies a longer time-frame?
Anyway, glad they're making some cash, I only hope it was a fair deal.

Hey Paul,
I'm also going to Amsterdam, but on the 16th, (DAMN..I'll miss Theo AND
Hood!!) and after asking this question to the list, Joost gave me the below
recommendation. Theo P is in fact going to be in Rotterdam, not Amsterdam.
And from what I'm told, it's about a 45min. train
Theo Parrish is playing in Amsterdam.

use methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) mixed with distilled
water 1 part to 5. doesn't need to be precise. place mixture in a spray
bottle. spray onto a lint free clothe and wipe the record.
for those in the states, there are two types of rubbing alcohol, make sure
it is isopropyl.
Cheers Darren. According to the Rush Hour site Theo is definitely playing at
the Paradiso in Amsterdam (the Rotterdam Paradisco logo is confusing though!).

Best thing is to be very careful with them so you don't ever have to clean
them! Here is what I do:
I find light dust or finger marks you can get off with a silicone impregnated
cloth (you can get these from some good vinyl stores and many bad ones too).
If you have heavy dust rinse or soak
could be that you bought bootleg needles, these are quite common and
very annoying
This is a vaguely related question but still on the needles topic... I
changed my needles the other day and noticed that they jumped like a bugger
when I was scratching - went I went back to my old needles all
Not superficially, the packaging and evrything tends to look quite
kosher (I use Shure M447s - the bollocks IMO).
One indicator is that they are suspiciously low in price.
Dan
WOW!...never heard of that. Is there a sure fire way to tell the
