from the same song (for the fellow dutchies on this list only ;-):
'When I 'm in Holland I eat the pannenkoeken'

One word: Timbaland.

Well...not to disagree too publicly, but I'm not hearing it. The 808
kick is almost certainly used, but I'm almost as certain that it's
sampled, not played off the original machine. The other distinctive
elements (cowbell, clave, etc) aren't really present from what I've
heard.
The other thing is
blair: many of today's pop musicians don't have the
reverence for the 808 and other classic gear like
those on a list such as this might have. so, when
an 808's sounds do make it into one of today's
pop songs, it is likely just another drum sample,
nothing special,
to the person using it ie just
hello,
The 808 was a mainstay back in the 80's, but that stuff is rarely used
anymore. Ever since the first sampling drum machines started coming out
in the late 80's and early 90's (EMU sp-1200, Roger Linn's Akai
MPC-60...) the 808 has been fading out. You can really start to hear the
shift

The Beastie Boys still use it.

Since this thread was inspired by the song 808 by Blaque Ivory, it should be
pointed out that it was actually produced by R Kelly outta Chicago, not the
group. So he's the one behind the 808 reference, I would say. The production
overall is very Timbaland-like, it's only the vocal arrangements
