For those who were looking at hotel prices this year:
A friend of mine from NYC called up the Ren Cen (Marriott). Looks like
they finally got wise, and are charging 260 a night now. This, of course,
was calling the hotel direct, but last year they were charging about 120
calling them direct.
I stayed at the Ren Center Marriott in 2001. I've found it's very handy
to be easy walking distance from the event, whatever it is (DEMF, computer
conference, whatnot).
Last year I stayed with my friends (Electro duo VolSoc) in a pimpin' room
at the Atheneum. A little bit further away than the
to drive anyways. And I doubt that Hawtin will be using the City Club
this year, so don't stay in the Ramada for that reason.

The Ren Center is very nice and the staff are lovely, it's just quite
expensive and the lifts can play up!!!. I've stayed in places like Sofitel
in other cities which is five-star and paid less per night.
But you can get morning coffee downstairs and there's a radio shack, which
is useful.
There's
Last year you had to walk miles in the Ren Cen though with this detour as
they were reconstructing, so it was further to walk. I kept getting lost in
that MF. It's like a maze!

I don't think that the priceline/RenCen debacle will be repeated. In
2001 you could get rooms at ReCen for like $45 a night, and have 4 people
stay there. But if you're willing to camp in a room with 2 or 3 of your
best buddies, there are still bargains -- the Omni is listed orbitiz for
$94 and

I recently saw a deal for The Ponchatrain. $80 a night // 2 beds= $20 a

but just be aware there are good deals on nice downtown hotels Memorial Day

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed (subscribed today).
What is the cheapest way to survive those 3 days in Detroit? I
graduate on the 23rd and want to take a `vacation' but I'm not sure
how much the whole thing will end up costing me. I don't mind living a
hike away (does Detroit have a

Days Inn is probably a good choice - about a 10 minute walk to Hart Plaza,
and you have the added bonus

Rant over.

If there's any substance to that, could someone tip us off, please, please,

you have towards something and are on a one meal a day, walking instead of
taking a tram, taking on more work than you can handle, lowering your
It is most definitely scheduled for May 26-28. Announcement of lineups
