So strange. I've never met Laurie, and now I never will.
We've corresponded for years, on and off this list - about
music, abc, programming, physics...
I've no idea what he looked like, even.
And I'm astonished by my own sense of shock and sadness.
He will be missed.

one, especially a newcomer like me, starts to recognise the names of the
regular contributers - i.e. the people with *something to say* - an
immediate sort of affinity develops; to the point that, even when one
